from the editorThis is it. Annual Dinner has come and gone and ourLeagueyearhas come toaclose, minusa fewevents stillon the calendar and one more board report, we aredone.

I cannot believe this year has passed so quickly. I amconstantly amazed and what Junior League has givenme. We come here to dedicate our time to thecommunity and to help make it a better place but Ithink it is us as members who gain the true reward:friendships, a sense of accomplishment on a job welldone and so much more.

As we say goodbye to this year, to friends who aremoving on and to placements and committees that wehave given our all, it's a bittersweet beginning tosomething new.

Next year, our newssheet will be in the hands of thelovely Elizabeth Rogers as I move on to PR. We will bein the hands of the incredible Amanda Gaido(seriously, how she does all she does with TWINS isbeyond me!) and we will all be in a new position.

I am sad to see this year pass so quickly but I am soexcited to see what next year has to offer and I am sothrilled to get to know my new committee.

Wishing you all a fantastic, restful summer,

Stevy

As members of the Junior League, we have the ability to be inspired each dayand change theworld aroundus. Our Leaguehas providedus the opportunityto make in impact for 86 years!

As I look back at the year, I am amazed of not only how quickly it flew by, butby how much our organization strived to accomplish. We passionatelyworked on educating membership, implementing the strategic and annualplans, collaborating partnerships, leadership process, branding, improvingour community through better practices, and teamwork. We successfullyimpacted our community through our focus on voluntarism, children, literacy, promoting self-esteem, and fighting childhood obesity. We may nothave accomplished everything we wanted, but we sure gave it our best shot!JLGChas successfully put in over9,000 reportedhours. You should all be veryproud and give yourselves a hand.

Being a Junior League member is hard work that takes sacrifice, courage andgrowth. This experience has not only been useful in a professional capacity, but on a personal level as well. I have grown and learned a lot about myselfand others. In the past 8 years, I have watched this Junior League grow in somanyways and I amsoproud tohavehad theopportunity to contribute a smallpiece of its transformation.

Thank you Bill Ansell andHollyMcManus for being on call and serving as ourcommunity advisors. Thank you Wendy, Ali, Doryn, Cara, Kerri, Ashlee,Jocelyn, Libbie, Marjorie, Michelle, Kelly, Kathy and many others for yourencouragement, support, opportunity, trust, and words of encouragementthroughout the years. I would not have changed a thing and I am so gratefulfor the opportunity. I remain committed to this organization because I believein its mission.

To the chairman and Board of Directors, thank you for your support andcommitment to the Junior League. We could not have completed the yearwithout your servant leadership, passion and drive. Your hard work anddedication did not go unnoticed!

fundraisingWOW--what a year it's been for the Fundraising Committee! But, as we begin to exit intothe light at the end of the proverbial tunnel, we'd like to take a moment to give you ourfinal update. This year's Fundraising activities provided both great effort and greatreward. We learned that just when we were our most tired and thought we could not goon, wecouldactually find some threadof effort tomake thatone last step towardourgoals! So here it is, (as of this writing in April):

Net Profits were:

Holiday Ball - $63,000.00

Biker Rally Beverage Booth - $8,953.22

Boutique By the Bay - $4,000.00

Direct Project Sponsorships - $2,000.00

Fundraising TOTAL $77,953.22 (Cookbook numbers are not included here)

This has been a truly adventurous year for ourCommitteeMembers. Wewould never sayitwas easy, butwe can surely say itwasworthwhile. If you've never serve on Fundraising, please keep it on your list of Things to Do before you leave the League. I've served in thisLeague for 20 years and this being my first time on Fundraising, it was an amazing year, indeed!

Thanks to everyone who encouraged us, helped us, supported our events with your hardearned dollars andwhomade us laugh. When the going got toughest, laughter was trulythe best medicine!! And our greatest THANKS to our illustrious Chair, Dori Golan!! Shewas the glue that held us all together this year as we bulldozed our way to success!

Have a joyous, safe and Happy Summer!

Respectfully Submitted,

Jeannie Janota

Fundraising Co-Chair

MEMORIES I’LL TAKE WITH ME• Making friends for a lifetime• Reading to enthusiastic 4 yr olds in RIF

program will make your day• Watching the kids faces light up

when they learned the school supplieswere theirs to keep with Stuff the Bus

• Helping our Adopt a School “SanLeon Elementary” after Hurricane Ikethrough our free family drive. Wetruly made a difference in thecommunity.

• The crazy fun we had taste testingrecipes at various events and meetingsfor the cookbook.

• Supporting our members andcommunity in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike –“Survive – Revive – Thrive”

• Tearing up at the heartfelt testimonials by Ashlee DuPont and Amanda Hawes about ourcommunity work.

• The opportunity to really touch people’s lives through Creating Connections.• The committees that really gave us the opportunity to get to know our League members –

who became our friends: Rummage Sale, Holiday Ball, Fundraising• The motivation that you get by watching your JL members struggle through personal

issues (illnesses, storms, etc) and still give 100%• More amazing things: Bringing families together by helping to coordinate the National

Adoption Day with our sustainers: Judge Jan Yarbrough and Doryn Glenn.

WHAT I’D TELL MY PROVISIONAL SELF• The best on the job training I ever got / great for leadership opportunities• Pregnancy is not a disability• Learning that the hardest thing to do is the best thing you could ever do.• Learning from others in the League. Great mentors.• Learning to deal with all types of personalities & leadership styles (are you a yellow or red

or blue??• You will appreciate the random / unknown talents of members.• You will have the opportunity to learn new things you didn’t know before AND you’ll

enjoy it (like fundraising!)• Your League has done amazing things – we put in the playground for the Children’s

Advocacy Center• Sometimes the job chooses you and not you getting to choose it.• It’s never too late to introduce yourself.• The more you give – the more you’ll get.
