Presidents Welcome - Welcome to Doric Park
I would like to welcome you all this afternoon to the long-awaited return of 1st XV League rugby to Doric Park. It seems like a
lifetime ago that we played our last competitive League game here in Trowbridge, with so much happening to us all in the
intervening period. To those of you that have suffered losses though the pandemic we offer our condolences. Hopefully you will feel
safe here with us this afternoon and be able to enjoy yourselves whilst relishing a really healthy competitive encounter against our
guests from Buckingham RFC. We are delighted to be hosting both Buckingham’s 1st & 2nd XVs this afternoon and offer a warm
welcome to their players, supporters and travelling officials.
The past 18 months have been a very difficult time for us all. With no community rugby in which to participate or enjoy,
compounded by the curtailment and closure of our commercial activities, we have been enormously grateful for the continued
support and goodwill provided by our many sponsors and members. Their contributions have been vital in ensuring that TRFC is in
a good position to enter what will be a new and interesting chapter in the Club’s history. We all offer our new Director of Rugby, Ali
Lund and his team our best wishes for the season ahead, as he builds for our long-term future across all segments of our Club,
senior/junior, male/female.
We sincerely hope that we are now on a road to the “new normal” without any significant bumps around the next corner. Covid
does however appear to be here for some time to come, but hopefully we can come to terms with this and learn to adapt our
lifestyles accordingly – time will tell.
Enjoy your afternoon here with us at Doric Park. Stay safe.
Chris Lamb
President.

Ali Lund (Director of Rugby)Hello everyone,
Welcome back. We are excited and honoured to be back at Doric Park, playing the game we love and representing our community.
It has been a challenging 18 months for us all – patiently waiting for our sport to return but now it is here we intend to do you justice.
We welcome a new face into the squad today in the form of 2nd Row Luke Moore who joins us from Gloucestershire University via Devizes
RFC. Luke is a player you can expect to see full of energy and relishing the contact elements of the game. Go well Luke. Whilst it has been
frustrating not being able to play we have also benefited from the enforced break allowing some of our younger squad members to establish
themselves as senior players. I am very excited to see how our crop of players aged 21 or under including Zak Harvey, Jack Davies and
Rory & Alex Murchison can compete in this challenging South West 1 league.
We start the 2021/22 season with reinvigorated commitment and desire to be competitive in every moment. Now we are back at Doric Park
and we’re ready to go. All the lads have been working tremendously hard at training and have adapted quickly our new style of play and
philosophy. We’ve ramped up the intensity of our sessions this week to reflect the challenges we will face today and learn some of the harsh
lessons of last Saturday's opening week loss to Bracknell. We aim to cause some big upsets this season.
I’m thrilled to have Nick Leach joining us as a senior coach. Nick is not only a very accomplished coach but he has proved in his short time
with us he is ability to connect with the players, influence them and develop them technically and tactically. He will get the best out of our
players and we can expect great performances.
We know Buckingham have a strong squad who will challenge us up front. We know, like us they will be disappointed to draw a blank in
week 1 and will present an exciting and challenging test for a first home match. They will have their eyes firmly fixed on the top half of the
table and will want to show what they are capable of.
We’re ready to face them.
We wish all of our supporters a very warm welcome back to the club. We love nothing more than the home crowd roar and we will
thrive on your support this afternoon. I look forward to seeing many of you in the bar after the game. It has been too long!

Captains Corner -
I’m really looking forward to competitive rugby returning to Doric Park against a strong Buckingham team, our
previous matches have been close affairs and I have no doubt that tomorrow will be nothing but challenging. I’m
especially looking forward to leading the Trowbridge 1’s out on to our number 1 pitch in front of a home crowd, the
reintroduction of a junior guard of honour and music from the balcony is sure to intensify what already promises to
be an electric atmosphere.
We’ve had a great week of training, the numbers have remained strong despite a stinging result last week, we are
looking to go out there with a real intent to play. Obviously we were disappointed with last weeks result, but at the
same time we have seen a lot of positives, particularly in the young talent coming through the ranks.
We are aiming to play an expansive brand of rugby that is enjoyable to play and hopefully exciting to watch. The
buzz around the senior playing members at the moment is really good and fingers crossed we can carry that from
the training field to the pitch on Saturday.
