The TruthProduc-tionz studio is lo-cated on the high street in Streath-am Hill. There is

free parking Banks, cash points and newsagents close by. The closes train station is Streatham Hill and buses straight to the studio include 133, 159, 250, 109, P13 get off at the Streatham bingo or Downtown Ave. In the Studio: The studio is based in a refurbished Vic-torian building with high ceilings, and wooden floors. We have a Dressing room and make-up area with a make up mirror and full-length mirror both well lit.

T he photography studio is equipped with profes-sional grade studio flash lighting and accessories, in-cluding Soft boxes, beauty

disc, honeycomb filter, diffuses, and reflectors Ready to handle most types of photography at a professional lev-el. Ranges of backdrops are available which include Paper Grey, paper ultra black, Cloth black &White, a purley ar-cade white column Photo wall mural, and green amongst others; plus we are always updating. Shot accessories in-clude: Furniture Brown leather couch, blue suede couch, a number of chairs and stools, gold stepladder, Black with gold trimmings four poster double bed, an Iron Divider Screen 4 Panel Partition with cream cloth panels and a few others to pick from if needed.

together for the express purpose of saving a life.Orin and Beverly’s journey began in 1993 when their son Daniel was diagnosed with the blood cancer leukaemia at the age of six. They were shocked and dis-mayed like any parent would be but to compound their pain they were told by doctors that it was unlikely their child would receive the life saving bone marrow treat-ment because their child was of Afro-Caribbean descent.Treatment for leukaemia is race specific so the donor and recipient must be of not only the same race but better results are achieved when they are also of similar eth-nicity; that is African to African and Caribbean to Caribbean. Adding to the complexity of the issue is that persons of Afro-Caribbean de-scent are more genetically diverse than Europeans making the selec-tion pool even smaller. Matching a donor to recipient can be likened to finding a needle in a haystack or winning the lottery. Not impos-sible but unlikely. When Orin and Bev received their world shattering news there were

just over 550 black people reg-istered on the bone marrow reg-istry. This amounted to less than one percent of the total black pop-ulation. When faced with such dire odds one has the option to either accept the devastating news and wait for the inevitable or fight to improve the odds by any means necessary. Orin and Bev decided to fight. They did this by creating the Af-rican Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT). The ACLT raises awareness on the need for people to become not only bone marrow donors but blood and organ donors too. They are a life saving charity registering people to be donors at registration drives and conducting registration campaigns on behalf of people in need of a life saving donor.One has to wonder why the num-bers are so devastatingly low. Ac-cording to Orin and Bev it is fear and a lack of understanding of what bone marrow really is and how its collected from the body (there is no drilling and it’s not taken from the spine) that cause people not to donate.

I f you were sick, really sick you would want the doc-tors to do everything they could to make you better. But what if they couldn’t

do anything? What if your only hope for survival lay in the hands of a stranger? For thousands di-agnosed with the blood cancer leukaemia their chances of sur-vival lie in the hands of persons unrelated and unknown to them. Bone marrow donation from an unrelated donor is the only known cure for the disease but if the potential cure is unknown to the sufferer then how do do-nor and recipient get together? In this age of rapid technological advancement that has brought us closer than ever rapidly we are in other ways very disconnected from the needs of our fellow man.While there are machines that can do amazing things that can extend life and be less invasive on the body they cannot recreate our physiology. They cannot give life. Only we as people, human beings can do that. It is through people like Orin Lewis and Bever-ly DeGale that people are brought

So back to Daniel. It was a long search but in the end he found his match. An American woman heard the call to action on her side of the pond and decided to be self less. She chose to

give a young man she did not know and had never met something of herself in order to save his life because it was the right thing to do. Through the kindness of a stranger Dan-iel was able to move forward in his life; to at-tend college, to spend time with his friends, things any young person would do he was able to because someone who had never met him and had no previous knowledge of him decided that his was a life worth saving.When information is so readily available and easily accessible I think there is no reason for fear or misunderstanding to stop people from doing what is right and necessary. I think we have a duty to each other to take care of and do what we can for those in need when we have the ability to. We as people sometimes overlook how im-portant we can be to those around us. We don’t always see how much our friends rely on us or may not even see how our behav-iour influences them. By becoming a do-nor and telling friends and family you can spark a conversation they may not have had before or cause a person to act. I don’t think it’s enough to simply say you care or comment on how messed up things can be for a person. We have the power to do great things that leave a lasting impact on people. We only have to make an effort.
