True Inspirational Stories The Story of B e thany Hamilton: -  One day as I was surfing facebook, I found a post with regard to Bethan y Hamilton and I googled her name to read more about her true inspirational story. Here is the story I found… Born into a family of surfers on February 8, 1990, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, Bethany began surfing at a young age. At the age of eight, Bethany entered her first surf competition, the Rell Sun Menehune event on Oahu, where she won both the short and long board divisions. This sparked a love for surf competition within her spirit. At the age of thirteen, on October 31, 2003, Bethany was attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark while surfing off Kauai’s North Shore. The attack left Bethany with a severed left arm. After losing over 60% of her blood, a nd making it through several surgeries without infection, Bethan y was on her way to recover y with an unbelievably positive attitude. Lifeguards and doctors believe her strong water sense and faith in God helped get her through the traumatic ordeal. Miraculously, just one month after the attack, Bethan y returned to the water to continue p ursuing her goal to become a professional surfer. In January of 2004, Bethany made her return to surf competition; placing 5th in t he Open Women’s division of that contest. With no intention of stopping, Bethany continued to en ter and excel in competition. Just over a year after the attack she took 1st place in the Explorer Women’s division of the 2005 NSSA National Championships    winning her first National Title. The story, many agree, is an inspiration in itself but to me, it is her mindset after the whole ordeal that is inspiring. Countless times fears find their way back into our eyes, and we learn to confront them, just as Bethany and her mother have. They do not let the unfortunate incident control their lives, because the alternative of living in fe ar is a life no one wou ld ever want to live. Hamilton leaves her fears behind her once she gets into the water. Her love and dedication towards surfing help her to become the brave figure that she is. Bethany Hamilton does not just leave her heart in the wa ves, though, as she is often found supporting charities and helping others. She is not only brave and determined, but also very giving towards others. Through the  battles she has fought, the actions she had taken and how she lives today, she is an inspiration. She is a role-model that proves that you can do anything as lon g as you set your heart to it. Her inspiration makes her my hero.

The story of Dereck Redmond:-

My mother brought this story to my notice when I got this assignment. I looked him up on theinternet and at once I knew I had found a truly inspirational story.

Here is the story I found…

Derek Anthony Redmond (born 3 September 1965, in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, England) is aretired British athlete. During his career, he held the British record for the 400 metres sprint, and

won gold medals in the 4x400 metres relay at the World Championships, EuropeanChampionships and Commonwealth Games. However, his career was blighted by a series of injuries. At the 1992 Olympic Games in

Barcelona he tore his hamstring in the 400 metres semi-final but continued the race limping and,

with assistance from his father, managed to complete a full lap of the track as the crowd gavehim a standing ovation.

3 Important Life Lessons as Learned from the Story of Derek Redmond

1. Run as to Win the RaceDerek joined the Olympic Games to win. I believe he was there not just for the sake of

experience. Anybody who trains to qualify in the Olympic Games has one goal in mind: To go

for the gold! Our life is a very long and rough race. We are compared to athletes and the ApostlePaul in this scripture encourages us to run as to win. It simply means that we should go on in life

with goals and excellence in mind and not just wander off, going with the flow.

2. Don't Give Up

At 250 meters from the finish line, Derek Redmond tore his hamstring. He stopped and was in somuch pain. Inspite of his pain, Derek made a decision that he was going to finish his race! What

a determination! Such a powerful example of never giving up!

In life, as we go along, we will discover that although we must go out there with winning as agoal, we will learn that the process from the start to the finish line matters more than

winning…that it doesn't matter how many times we fall for as long as we go back up and

continue the race!

3. You're Never AloneOn the video you will see that out of nowhere, all of a sudden, Derek's dad came running behind

him then started to run with him. Whether you believe there is a God or not, the truth is that He

exists. There may be times in your life when you feel that He doesn't exist but just like Derek'sfather, God is running this race of life with you. He's the one that gives you the strength to get

back up when you fall down.

3 POWERFUL lessons from the story of ONE man! All because he never gave up. Now Derek isa very influencial speaker and inspiration too many!
