Lance Meyers Tech Comm I Transitions Assignment The trumpet is a musical instrument that requires a proper grip to play. To begin, grab the instrument with your left hand by its three valves. Your thumb should be around the first valve, or closest valve to the mouthpiece while your other fingers should be wrapped around the third, or farthest valve from the mouthpiece. Once the instrument is in your left hand, place your right hand on top of the valves. Furthermore, make sure that your index fingertip is in the first valve, and your middle fingertip is on the second valve, and your ring fingertip is on the third valve. In addition your thumb should be placed under the stem of the instrument between the first and second valves. As long as you follow these simple steps, you should be able to properly hold a trumpet.
