Trumpeter History

The Trumpeter Tabletop GamingSociety was founded in Burnaby,

BC in 1964 by Jack Hutchings. Jackstarted playing tabletop games whenhe was 16 years old in 1927. Hemoved to Vancouver from Winnipegin 1954 and settled in Burnaby. In

1964 he established the first tabletopgaming club in British Columbia, TheTrumpeters, and ran his club from thebasement of his home until the fall of1977. The club Jack started laterspawned other clubs in the Vancouverarea, and in other parts of theprovince, including a tabletop gamingclub at UBC in the mid 1960’s. In1973, Jack organized the first tabletopgame convention in Vancouver, whichattracted over 400 people. JackHutchings passed away in 1978, buthis club, and his dream, live on withtoday’s dedicated club membership.

Friday Game Night Entrance Fee: Non-society members may attend onemonthly Friday Game Night FREE. Entrancefee is $6 for each Friday Game Night attend-ed thereafter.

Basic 1 Year Society Membership:1 year society membership is $15. A societymember pays $4 to attend each monthlyFriday Game Night.

E ach year the Trumpeter TabletopGames Society hosts a 3-day games

convention: Trumpeter Salute at BonsorRecreation Complex in Burnaby (next toMetrotown). During Trumpeter Salute

many open games and tournamentgames, including a Warhammer 40KTournament, are presented in whicheveryone is welcome to join and play.During the 3-day event, over 275 attend.

What is Tabletop Gaming?

The first published tabletop gamerules was “Little Wars” in 1913, by

author, H.G.Wells. Sir WinstonChurchill, twice Prime Minister of theUnited Kingdom, used these tabletop

rules and hada large collec-tion of handpainted table-top miniatureswhich he usedto play withhis closestfriends wellinto his lateryears.
