THEATRE ROYAL WINDSORYOUR LOCAL THEATRE

HELLO,

Welcome to a very special year for Theatre Royal Windsor, as we mark an astonishing 200 years from the date that a theatre first opened on this site.

It is amazing to think that for two centuries this place has reverberated withmusic, laughter and dramatic performances of all kinds.

To celebrate this special occasion we are offering something old, somethingnew, something borrowed and something blue!

Something ‘old’: A School For Scandal - the first production ever performed at Theatre RoyalWindsor - exactly 200 years ago! A timeless comedy classic, as relevant today as it ever was.

For something ‘new’, an exclusive opportunity to see one of the year’s most anticipated newproductions - The Shawshank Redemption, catch it here first at Theatre Royal Windsor prior toa national tour and the West End.

Something ‘borrowed’ is the Theatre Royal’s Repertory Theatre. Run successfully here for halfa century by the legendary John Counsell, the season offers you the chance to see six greatshows in six weeks.

Finally, some of the acts in our Windsor Comedy Festival may well turn the air a shade of‘blue’, so for those of you who like a raucous night out, come and see some of the best actsaround on route the Edinburgh Festival.

And don’t forget it’s your last chance to see the West End smash hit Twelve Angry Men starringTom Conti, followed by the Noel Coward classic romance Brief Encounter on Air with MartinShaw and Jenny Seagrove.

With so much on offer, I look forward to seeing you here soon.

Robert MilesExecutive Director

COMING SOON!

Based on the short story by STEPHEN KING

Adapted by Owen O’Neill and Dave Johns

FEAR WILL HOLD

YOU PRISONER.

HOPE CAN SET

YOU FREE.

Despite protests of innocence, Andy Dufresne is handeda double life sentence for the brutal murder of his wifeand her lover…

Incarcerated at the notorious Shawshank facility, hequickly learns that no one can survive alone. Andystrikes up an unlikely friendship with the prison fixerRed, and things take a slight turn for the better. How-ever, when Warden Norton decides to bully Andy intosubservience and exploit his talents for accountancy, adesperate plan is quietly hatched…

Widely considered the number one all-time movie,Stephen King’s classic story takes to the stage in a newproduction which examines desperation, injustice, friendship and hope behind the claustrophobic bars of amaximum security penitentiary.

CELEBRATING THE 21ST ANNIVERSARY OF THE NATION’S FAVOURITE MOVIE

Cutting wit and sparkling dialogue abound in this comicmasterpiece, first performed in Windsor when the curtain rose at Theatre Royal in 1815. As relevant todayas it was hundreds of years ago, the action takes placein a world of scandalous rumours, gossip and whisperedaccusations in fashionable upper class London.

Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s hilarious romp pricks the pomposity of a spoilt inward looking societyn full of largerthan life characters. Sir Peter Teazle has found a youngbride from the country, but she only adds to his problemsas he attempts to protect his ward Maria from the attentions of brothers Charles and Joseph Surface. LadySneerwell, Mrs Candour and Sir Benjamin Backbite are allfull of hypocrisy and jealousy, providing the perfect back-drop to this classic comedy of manners.

THU 26 MAR - 2.30pmA glorious afternoon show taking you back tothe time when Variety was the spice of life.Remember the songs of Marie Lloyd, Harry Champion and all the stars of yesteryear.

Join us in our beautiful Edwardian theatre to sing along just like the good old days!
