What’sTrybe?

Trybe is a youth development organisation. We exist to build

youths via Pro-Positive techniques and Life Skills so that they

may become success stories.

Our Vision

“Every Youth a Success Story”

Our Mission

Trybe is a global community inspiring youth for Pro-Positive living, spreading the

“You Can” possibility, so that they can pursue their dreams.

Our Values

Being strong and enthusiastically

devoted to a cause or goal and

working tirelessly for its advancement.

Virtuous

The habitual readiness or disposition

to use your ability to practise being

morally excellent in thoughts and

actions.

Resilience

Having strength of will to overcome

adversity or risk and emerge stronger

from the experience.

Committed

Being committed is being true to one’s

word; doing what you said you would

do, no matter the cost.

“Every Youth a Success Story”

Encouragement

The art of giving courage, hope and the

confidence of success. Encouragement

moves to action, provides support for

and contributes to the growth of self

and others.

Diligence

Working hard and not taking the easy

way out; it requires earnest effort and

perseverance to accomplish what is

undertaken.

Serving

Being proactive in meeting the needs

of others, with the attitude of deferring

to the other person and being willing

to be inconvenienced in the process.

OurStory

Trybe International

Trybe has been brought to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand,

The Philippines, United States, Israel and China

Our Beginning

Trybe is a flagship project initiated by Save The Children Singapore Limited

(STCS) in 2001. STCS was incorporated in 2nd November 1995 as a company

limited by guarantee. It exists as an independent national charity, with a mission

being “to help children in need in Singapore and the region.”

STCS’ motivation for what it does can be borrowed from the words of

chairperson of the board Mrs Pamelia Lee’s opening remarks at the official

launch of STCS in 1996:

“If just one child is saved from delinquency, if just one child meets his greater potential,

if just one child is happier because he feels better about himself, then we would have

made a difference through Save the Children Singapore.”

With this intention to serve the youth, a series of face to face interviews and group discussions were conducted by our Project Director, Ms

Rachel Ong in November 2000. This study involved youths and

educators from a wide spectrum of secondary schools aim to

understand the needs of the Singapore youth. It has been found that regardless of their families’ socioeconomics

status, majority of these youths are found to be lacking in

purpose and struggling with self esteem issue.

Trybe, which was previously known as Thumbs Up!,

was then launched in 2001 to enable youth to lead

purposeful lives.

Our Staff

The Trybe team consists of ten executives with diverse backgrounds and

experiences. They played key roles in their previous organisations and were

all Trybe volunteers before they decided to switch their careers. Zealous,

dynamic and fun loving, the team is committed to actualising Trybe’s vision

to see every youth succeed.

Our Volunteers

As a volunteer-driven organisation, Trybe is honoured to have more than 900

volunteers who have contributed to the work of Trybe since 2001. Presently,

over 250 of them are actively involved in our programmes and activities.

Coming from different walks of life, our volunteers gather for a common

purpose of serving the youth. These zealous, encouraging and fun loving

volunteers are one key reason why we succeed in engaging and inspiring

the youth.

Trybe is committed to the development of our volunteers. Besides making

efforts to ensure that our volunteers are positive role models, we constantly

“I’m very thankful that through volunteering at Trybe, I have learnt more about myself and others. The reason why I’m drawn to the Trybe

Among our Trybe volunteers is a very special group of young people who have been walking alongside us in the last 9 years. Beginning as participants in our programmes, they thereafter stepped out with a desire to join the Trybe community and play a part in the mission to see every youth succeed.

Let us share our joy as you read these youth volunteers’ journeys of serving and growing with Trybe. You will also see the respective years and Trybe programmes in which they first met Trybe as participants.

They are truly our inspirations.
