Everyone must submit himself to the governing

authorities, for there is no authority except that

which God has established (Romans 13:1)

Introduction

Learning how to drive equips learners with knowledge on traffic regulations. Knowing

these regulations from the bottom of their hearts helps them to be always alert.

Principled drivers are not likely to at any time defeat the ends of justice. They always

behave in line with sanctioned traffic regulations. Their resolute commitment to

respect traffic laws brings much-needed safety on our roads. We still find decent

drivers who safeguard their own lives and those of their passengers. They also

safeguard the lives of pedestrians. When they pass through heavily congested

residential areas they adhere to the required speed limit. Any no time will they

overlook the speed restriction.

Therefore we encourage people to conduct themselves properly while driving

especially in any given situation when they might threaten the lives of others. Proper

driving can therefore safeguard the lives of others.

Problem Statement

The gross violation of traffic regulations is widely visible across the board. There is

little respect among disobedient drivers. They do as they like and act as if they own

our roads. They often overlook that they have to smoothly and kindly share the road

networks with others. Because of ill discipline we often see unruly drivers’ behaviour

adversely affecting other motorists. Decent drivers are habitually punished due to

other people’s errors.

As we speak, innocent drivers have perished at the hands of the unruly ones. The

fact is guilty drivers often get away from their crimes. We therefore challenge drivers

to enforce absolute discipline when driving. Changing their driving habits for the

better can indeed save many lives. But if the current trends of unruliness persist we

will simply continue to lose innocent lives.

A leading problem that enhances the ill discipline on our roads is the rampant act of

bribery. Corrupt motorists know that the moment they are randomly caught while

driving above the required speed limit the only way to avoid a sentence would be to

bribe traffic officials. Because corrupt traffic officials know this habit they at times

demand financial kickbacks. Those who often pay a bribe to dodge a hefty penalty

are then easily freed. But those who do not pay bribes are issued with a ticket.

Presently, bribes have been the cause of deep cause in terms of the multiplication of

Devil Destroyer, Volume 312, 3532-3547, 21 September 2017

Page3534

deadly road accidents. Because corrupt drivers are able to bribe traffic officials they

continue to pose a threat to other drivers.

From time to time we also find bad driving causing a lot of instability. Those who

think they have the upper hand on our roads grossly provoke obedient drivers. The

moment disobedient drivers are caught they often resort to using bribery as a way to

run away from accountability.

Outcomes of transgressions

Pedestrians’ death: Unruly behaviours on our roads have caused a lot of pain among

families. The devil in the room has been the loss of loved ones due to preventable

road accidents. Today we often see drivers who become unruly the moment they

reach areas surrounded by inhabitants. In other words, they increase their speed the

moment they see people. Due to this madness there have been incidents where

pedestrians have been killed. In other cases, over-speeding has affected drivers’

ability to respond quickly. Their reaction time to avoid hitting pedestrians usually is

insufficient.

Therefore we urge all drivers to slow down in residential areas. Their alertness in this

regard can indeed shelter the lives of pedestrians.

Drivers’ death: Drivers kill themselves because they do not respect certified traffic

regulations. They often put the law into their own hands until they leave this earth

prematurely. Despite always being reminded to drive carefully they fail to take such

advice seriously. The problem is that they think they are unreachable. This usually

happens because they ignore the fact that accidents have no respect of anyone. The

moment we disrespect traffic rules we are also risking our lives. As we speak, many

people only wake up after the damage has been done. Once they find themselves on

the wrong side of the law they also end their own lives. Today, we remember those

people who have lost their lives. Their departure must always remind us about the

Devil Destroyer, Volume 312, 3532-3547, 21 September 2017

Page3535

ugliness of disparaging traffic laws. Unless we change our bad attitudes we will

follow them. We will die and leave behind our wives, husbands, children and parents

in deep depression. Therefore a clever driver is one who listens when good advice is

given for free.

Passengers’ death: Drivers are expected to take extraordinary precautions when

transporting people. Preserving the lives of those they transport should take their full

attention. In this regard drivers have to always adhere to traffic regulations. At no

time may drivers, because they are in a hurry, undermine the traffic regulations. It is

better to be late than to risk the lives of those they transport from one point to

another. Yet the current number of accidents points to drivers’ hurriedness as one of

the primary causes of fatal accidents. Head-on-collisions support this. Despite

carrying the lives of people they drive ruthlessly. Today we can go on and on in

remembering those who were compromised by bad driving. Many passengers

continue to die because those who drive them lack restraint. Even when danger is

imminent unruly drivers may not take any precautionary steps. They will simply

persistently ignore impending problems until those they travel with eventually lose

their lives. With this, we challenge drivers to respect those they transport to their

different destinations. Their lives are very important to their families and friends. We

must not disappoint them. We have to drive them while knowing that we are carrying

worthy people.

Loss of property: Car owners often face tormenting experiences after being involved

in an accident. Some lavish cars involved in accidents are damaged beyond

restoration. This precisely means that they are written off and subsequently leave

their owners without anything. In some cases insured cars can also not be settled.

The insurers can decline to settle them. For example, when insurers establish that

the driver who was driving was under the heavy influence of alcohol or illegal

substances they are likely to turn down the request for settling the debt. As a result

we continue to see car owners being stranded. Some are contractually forced to pay

for a car they no longer own. They normally pay for these cars over the course of

Devil Destroyer, Volume 312, 3532-3547, 21 September 2017

Page3536

years. Therefore, bad driving can be costly at times. Those who are unlucky, have to

surrender all they possess. The whole misfortune simply strains their lives. It all

confirms that bad driving can be very costly. We therefore ask all drivers to respect

their property. It is very expensive to lose a car especially when there is outstanding

debt.

Imprisonment: Some drivers completely infringe the traffic laws. Exceeding a certain

speed limit for instance permits law enforcement agencies to imprison the

delinquents. Some drivers spend days under detention because they far exceeded

what is allowed on specific roads. Also, we have drivers who go to prison for years

due to their bad driving. Those who ignorantly cause the death of people usually

have to account. They can be found guilty of murder. This means that they will have

to spend time in jail for many years. This is an alarming reminder to those who

continue to remain defiant. The moment they pickpocket the lives of innocent people

the law will be waiting to bite them. As we speak, unruly drivers are serving their jail

terms. By the time they are in jail they normally regret that they did not obey traffic

rules. This becomes the time for them to say enough is enough. Only when they

leave prison they become mindful of the yoke of their unruly behaviour on our roads.

With this, we want all of you to learn from their blunders. You do not have to go to jail

to change your driving behaviour. Rather take precautionary measures so that you

do not become a bad example of what could go wrong on the road.

Traffic officers are unpredictable

Many traffic officers are at times prejudiced. They act inconsistently because they

always weigh the options. Those who have deflated the rule of law may be freed

while others may be punished. For instance, we find drivers who often exceed the

speed limit. Let’s say all of some are stopped. The strange thing is that some can be

freed without being given any penalty even when they have committed a similar

offence. Today we see that lawbreakers are not treated equally. We find those who

have tongues defending themselves. Because they have the means to convince the

traffic officers, they do not get any penalty. On the other hand, those who have

Devil Destroyer, Volume 312, 3532-3547, 21 September 2017

Page3537

unpersuasive tongues often have to face the music. The Most High has been in both

these situations. Sometimes he was freed. Sometimes he was not freed. This type of

treatment on the whole took him by surprise about the manner in which traffic

officers operate. Instead of being fair to all offenders they choose whom to punish.

Their erratic actions however do not help the course of eradicating bad driving. Their

conduct actually adds to the current problem because they are subjective, biased,

and influenced. Instead of using the established laws they use their own discretion.

They do not protect the traffic laws

We are faced with a problem when we find that traffic officials are not willing to

defend and protect the essential law. Instead of protecting the law at all times they

can prevent it from biting lawbreakers. Their lack of firm commitment to defend basic

traffic laws needs to change. We find that the high level of snubbing the law is

playing its unholy hand. Unruly drivers are no longer willing to adhere to the

elementary rules because they often use money to mute officials. We therefore

demand more stringent measures to record perpetrators to book. It can no longer be

business as usual for corrupt officials who are willing to cross the line. These

officials actually think with their stomachs instead of their brains. This can also lead

to anarchy.

The experience of The Most High

The Most High used to drive a lot especially from Polokwane to Pretoria. This

situation exposed him to speeding. At times, he was stopped in order to account for

his reckless driving. Traffic officers usually slapped him with heavy fines. However

not all of the officers were disposed to fines. Some freed him without punishing him.

Some demanded bribes from him in order to pervert justice. The moment The Most

high handed them his driver licence they always said, “Make a plan Mr Tshivhase”.

Some even threatened to arrest him. When The Most High heard about possible

arrest he was very challenged. He was left without options but to deliver according to

the desire of corrupt traffic officials. In this regard paying a bribe was the only way for

him to be released. Because of knowing this culture he was swayed when stopped

Devil Destroyer, Volume 312, 3532-3547, 21 September 2017

Page3538

because of over-speeding. Even though he did what was wrong he has since come

to terms with reality. Today he no longer runs away from being accountable. If he is

wrong he pays for the offence in a transparent way. He has no time to beg traffic

officials to free him for breaking the law. You can do the same. You do not need to

pay bribes to traffic officials to be freed from being accountable for your lamentable

actions. Being transparent at all time will decrease incidents of unruliness on our

roads. We therefore ask you to play by the rule without deflating transparent

processes.

The Most High also used to drink and drive although he was never a heavy drinker.

This however risked his life from ending prematurely. Alcohol used to harmfully affect

him to the extent that he often speeded. Luckily, he was not totally consumed in the

process. Considering those early days, he can today say that only the hand of God

rescued him. One day The Most High went to Monte Casino in Fourways with

friends. He ended up overdosing himself with wine. When driving back to his

dwelling place his car was indeed flying. This deeply scared those who were with

him in the car. One lady shouted, “Stop the car and let me drive”. Despite her effort

The Most High never took her seriously. His kept flying along the N1. With this

incident we reveal the danger of drinking and driving. Though The Most High was

lucky to escape he now sees the light at the end of the tunnel. Although having a

glass of wine is not a bad idea we must never drink beyond the restricted alcohol

level when we are going to be driving. Doing so would only imperil the lives of other

motorists and those we are travelling with.

My old heart was disgraceful

The above-mentioned situation requires that a courageous man like The Most High

does personal introspection in the name of Jesus. The Most High finds his former

conduct shocking. He should have acted in a manner that cherished the light at all

times. Because of his openness he found peace in his heart. Today he continues to

excel in finding the right path for his life. Never again will he find himself risking his

Devil Destroyer, Volume 312, 3532-3547, 21 September 2017

Page3539

own life, the lives of his passengers and the lives of other motorists. Neither will he

ever risk again the lives of pedestrians.

When he finds himself dishonouring the traffic decrees he is willing to pay for his

wrong. Influencing corrupt traffic officers is no longer a proper way to ensure that our

roads are safeguarded from horrible accidents. You can do the same. You can reject

paying bribe takers. Do not pay them because you are not doing yourself any favour.

This will alert us to never advance the darkness at the expense of light. From our

past experiences we can indeed do much better in nurturing a friendly environment

wherever we travel.

Let us change forever

Real change has come to the house of The Most High. He has been transformed for

advancing his life. The same can be possible to you if you are willing to follow him.

The change of one driver’s behaviour will support the seriousness of traffic

regulations so that more lives can be saved on our roads. The increasing number of

those who see the light would mean that it is much safer on our roads than ever

before. Because we love all people we also want those who are still in darkness to

courageously join us. They too can play a pivotal role in grandly transforming the

way we bring safety to our roads. Changing people’s conduct can do a lot in waning

down bad manners that can cause serious destruction. Because we now live in the

light we want all of you to do the right thing. It is never too late to persuasively

endorse the light.

Conclusion

The need to preserve good driving on our roads is of utmost importance. Through

our good-mannered attitudes we will able to protect our own lives, our passengers’

lives, other motorists’ lives, the pedestrians’ lives, and our family members’ lives. It is

sad to find drivers causing road accidents that kill their family members because they

do not adhere to the traffic rules. We have to turn the table. We do not want to have

more victims through accidents that can be prevented.

Devil Destroyer, Volume 312, 3532-3547, 21 September 2017

Page3540

The primary way to achieve success is to always respect traffic regulations. We say

so because many deadly accidents happen due to the overwhelming deflation of

fundamental traffic rules. If we all have to stick to the traffic rules the chances of

losing our lives on the roads will be slim. Therefore we must always remember that

our unbecoming behaviours on the roads will continue to trigger more fatalities.

What makes the deadly incidents on our roads even worse are the people who drink

and drive. The state of their being can directly cause horrifying incidents. Now and

then they are taking the lives of other motorists. It is much better to drink where one

is not expected to drive afterwards. Sometimes we have to allow those who do not

drink to drive us if they have a driver’s licence. This would be much safer than to

force oneself to drive while one can trigger an accident along the way. Today when

we hear of accidents we can always guess the actual cause. Alcohol is often the

cause especially among those who continue to drink and drive. It is sad to see a

person travelling in his or her car with a bottle of alcohol in the hand. Some

particularly do so when they are driving long distances. Some do not reach their

destination. Many drivers die before reaching their homes because they overlooked

the fact that alcohol kills. With this, we want people to learn to become self-controlled

at all times. Once they embrace alcohol while driving, they must know that they are

lighting a fire.

Traffic officers must never snub the traffic rules in favour of kickbacks. Doing so

would mean that they become part of the problem. Their actions will only send a

wrong message to lawbreakers. We expect traffic officials to be strict and protect the

law. The habit of allowing wrongdoers to go off freely without charge while selecting

others to punish is wrong. Since we are all equal before the law we expect all

wrongdoers to be treated the same. With regards to those who accept bribes from

offenders we can only say “shame on you”. You have proven that you are not eligible

to serve the public. Why? Because traffic officials have to always defend the lives of

Devil Destroyer, Volume 312, 3532-3547, 21 September 2017

Page3541

all people. The moment they accept bribes it basically means they are no longer

protecting other motorists and passengers.

We want to salute a number of people who persistently continue to make our roads

safer than ever before. Firstly, we want to salute the drivers who always stick to the

traffic rules. They do not compromise anyone’s safety because they know the

dangers of transgressing. Secondly, we salute the drivers who do no drink and drive.

They know that drinking and driving endangers the lives of others. When they drink

they will not drive. They would rather allow another person to take the driving seat.

Thirdly, we want to salute the people who have changed their driving habits for the

better. The bad driving they were used to before is no longer part of their lives.

Because of changing their driving manners for the better they now serve as an

example. Fourthly, we want to salute the traffic officers who do not demand bribes

from lawbreakers. Even if they are pursued they will always turn down any form of

kickback. These officers know that their purpose is to enforce law and stability and

not to undermine this. It is clear that creating a friendly environment on our roads

rests with us.

If we can behave in line with the established traffic rules more lives will be saved.

The days of people losing their loved ones through reckless driving should be a thing

of the past.

The earth is also polluted by its inhabitants, for they

transgressed laws, violated statutes, broke the

everlasting covenant (Isaiah 24:5)
