WHY A LOOK BOOK?

When the Christmas Season landed on us last December, the doors to TUCK had only been open for about two months. Because we were still such a novelty many came to the studio out of sheer curiosity. Over the course of the next twelve months or so, however, we like to think we’ve built a strong and loyal clientele, folks who kept asking “What are you bringing in for Christmas?” It’s a great question and one we’re now answering, at least in part, with our First Annual Christmas Look Book. It’s our version of the Sear’s Wish Book, the one I poured over for hours. I’d sit beside my mother while she patiently explained the nature of all the delights revealed on each succeeding page. Well, while this doesn’t have anything like the weight of a Sear’s Wish Book, I do hope it brings you a similar pleasure. So grab a coffee or tea – or cup of Christmas cheer – and, courtesy of the lovely photography of Kelly Lawson, have a peak at what Christmas literally has ‘in store’ for you this year at TUCK. Kelly Lawson (pictured here with the dashing Jude) is a fabulous photographer, dear friend, and one of TUCK’S great supporters.! We’ve collaborated with Kelly on dozens of photography and/or design projects but this Look Book is definitely a favourite. All photos of the studio are by Kelly.

GOOD THINGS COME IN UNIQUE PACKAGES. !The one comment we hear the most from those who visit the studio is, ‘You have such unique items here.’ And there is reason for that. We pride ourselves on scouring the ends of the design world to ensure that we’re the source of meaningful and beautiful design.

We are interested in design with a narrative, product that tells a story: of the designer, of the materials, of the history of each design and its claim to sustainability.

This Look Book features only a fraction of what we have in TUCK, but we think it’s a representative sampling; i.e., if gives you a sense of what our studio is about.

THE PILLOW COLLECTIVE This line of pillows is inspired by Saint John’s new and emerging identity as coined by our Mayor: a Renaissance City.! These modern pillow designs look forward to our future by embracing our past.

! A photographer of people, driven by everything that brings them together and the endless possible interactions between them. A teller of stories and adventure, both big and small. Primarily a wedding photographer who focuses on documenting the couple's connection on their wedding day with a photo journalistic approach, he is haunted by wanderlust that leads to a love of travel photography and other cultures of the world. Shooting weddings internationally and multicultural wedding ceremonies helps to bridge the gap between the two. Sean has built his short career on a passion for photography and the people he works with.

! Nicole Tarasick is a Toronto based graphic designer and screen printer. This line of pillows was inspired by her interests in typography, geography and Canadiana.

Chris Lloyd is a visual artist living in Montreal. He has been writing daily email to the Prime Minister of Canada since 2001, maintains a performance artist alter-ego called Everyday Goalie, is an exhibition designer and art-handler for DHC-ART, and has a mild obsession with manhole covers.
