Important Sales Announcement - Covid 19

Please also note Vendors and Buyers MUST inform the market if they are selling or looking to Buy on

Sale days so they can be registered

After considerable effort to ensure we can continue to trade as a town centre market and provide our

role in the nation’s food supply, please note alterations to our sales schedule for the next fortnight:

In order to best do this we are further reducing the size of gatherings we hold on a Tuesday by

splitting our sheep and cattle sales - operating: sales of sheep on a Tuesday and Cattle on

Wednesdays.

We are more than just a market and are here for the farming community at all times and happy to

discuss the best route for livestock sales in these testing times, including matching abattoir orders

with vendors outside of these sales dates.

• The Tavern, Traders Stall, Fur, Feather and Sundries Auction and closure if the Farmers’ Market

(Tuesdays only) and Sunday Car Boot will close until further notice.

• Depending of the severity and risk, our aim is run livestock markets – but remain closed to the

public and operate on a skeleton number of staff.

• We will only allow vendors and buyers on site. Vendors, unless buying, MUST leave site after

dropping their livestock off.

• Buyers will be expected to maintain social distancing from staff and use sanitising stations

provided.

• Site gates will remain closed, entry and exit to site will be via Nottingham Road, through gate 7

and gate 8 for pigs (LE13 0NP).

• There will be no cash machine available.

• Speak to your auctioneer if you wish to purchase stock but are unable to attend market.

• Please keep checking our Facebook Pages and Website for updates on Covid-19 and our

opening dates / times.

• A reminder of our credit terms. All store and breeding stock is to be paid for on the day. There

will be a two week maximum credit allowance for payment prime stock for those with agreed

terms. If you have any questions, or concerns, please speak to your auctioneer, or Hugh.

Due to the reduced postal service and the shortened opening times of the banks

caused by Covid-19, we would ask all purchasers who have credit arrangements to

pay us via BACS where possible rather than post cheques. Details for payment can

be found on all invoices issued by the market. If you have any questions please do

not hesitate to contact us on 01664 562971. A reminder that all other payments

should be made on the day.

BACS Payments to customers

Please note due to Melton Mowbray market now holding sales on both Tuesdays and

Wednesdays BACS payments to customers are now being initiated on Thursdays for credit into

customer accounts first thing Monday morning.

Social Distancing

We draw everyone’ s attention again to the operating arrangements for all livestock markets

during lockdown. These include a drop and go for vendors leaving maximum space available for

GENUINE buyers who must remain socially distanced at all times in the rings and around the

market. Positions in the rings are clearly marked out and are strictly on a first come first served

basis. Please help us to keep the live markets operating for you.

Pay on the day policy – reminder of terms We would like to remind our customers that all store and breeding stock must be paid for on the day. Prime stock purchasers can apply for terms using an account form, which can be posted or emailed on

request and are also available from the market office. For Primestock purchasers with credit agreements, credit terms will extend to a maximum of two weeks. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to

contact us on 01664 562971.

Named/Numbered Sires

Vendors are advised that named sires must be officially printed on the passport of the animal and not hand written. We will not sell animals as being named or numbered sire if the sire details are not printed onto the passport. Sire details may be checked with the breed societies online to ensure that they are correct. Please

also include sire details on your blue entry forms which accompany cattle to market. Thank you for your cooperation.

Farm assurance status

Would all cattle vendors selling cattle as Farm Assured please ensure that their Farm Assurance is up to date, with all linked holdings registered to the primary holding, and ensure that the stickers used in

passports match the details held by the administering Farm Assurance body. We are increasingly having issues with linked holdings not being covered under a primary FABBL account, and severe deductions

are being applied at the time of slaughter. In such instances, the vendor is liable for all deductions made

Notice to vendors bringing cattle into Melton Mowbray Market

In order to comply with the Tuberculosis (England) order 2014 we would like to remind vendors when stating the TB testing date of the cattle being sent to market the date of test section should be filled out as the date of injection not

the date of the reading. The 60 day period in which animals can be moved begins on this date.

To assist us with this matter please ensure a TB test certificate accompanies all cattle entering the market, this can be sent directly from your vets to the office via email or a hard copy sent with your entry form.

STORE CATTLE

AUCTIONEER – SCOTT RUCK

Tel: 07796 897516

Melton Mowbray Markets Store ring continues to grow - just when we thought store cattle couldn’t get any dearer we find ourselves with another busy store cattle shed, 5 new vendors in attendance and many new faces round the ring. Please be reminded under the Covid-19 restrictions in place only purchasers are allowed to attend sales who must register their attendance beforehand and adhere to the regulations for everyone’s safety. 316 stores forward and sold today with what has been a record breaking 4 weeks in the cattle sheds with numbers surpassing those expected at this time of year and a huge thankyou must go to all market staff both on the frontline and not forgetting those at home - Ben Shouler and Barrie Williamson who are sensibly sat ‘in the eaves’ should Myself James or Oliver or any current staff find our health subject to the pandemic. As voiced last week in the Store ring I can only applaud market staff who put both their own and their families lives at risk to ensure the best model for marketing farmers stock continues and we thanks buyers and vendors for their patience. A pleasure to have vendors returning who have been selling off farm direct for many years rewarded by the demand for store cattle from buyers from across the counties - A number having nearly taken a price off farm some £200 short of the mark achieved in the live auction system! Today’s sale topped with another consignment from M W Thomas, Ryhall who saw his belting Limousin Bullock at 21 months to £1265 with his counterpart heifer to £1260 and another to £1180.
