following restrictions remain in place:
• STRICTLY drop and go for ALL vendors.
• All Buyers must register their attendance PRIOR to sale with either an auctioneer or a
member of staff in the office.
• Social distancing must be adhered to at all times, anybody not following these simple
guidelines will be asked to leave the market.
• Fur and Feather Auctions will remain CLOSED until such a time that we can operate
them safely and in line with government and DEFRA restrictions.
• Market traders and antique stalls will remain CLOSED until such a time that the DEFRA
and government restrictions allow us to safely resume operation.
Melton Mowbray Market would like to Thank all our customers and staff for continuing to support the Market during these difficult times. We are more than just a market and are
here for the farming community at all times. Please call us to discuss your marketing requirements and we look forward to re-opening the market again soon.
We look forward to being able to resume the much-loved Melton Tuesday Market as soon
as we are able.
Please note LAA and Government Guidelines Below: PRIMESTOCK SALES
Recent DEFRA guidance is that livestock markets play an essential part in the food supply chain and can
continue but under the very strictest regulations to stop the spread of the virus, protect everyone in the market
environment, staff, vendors, and buyers alike. To this end ALL MARKETS ACROSS THE COUNTRY will be operating a very strict and enforceable “DROP & GO”
system, operating as follows:- VENDORS
1) Vendors will deliver and unload stock at the loading bays. Market staff will collect the paperwork and move
the stock into the pens, Vendors will then leave the market and we will endeavour to get prices to you as
soon as possible. PLEASE ENSURE YOUR MOVEMENT LICENCES, PASSPORTS ETC ARE CLEARLY AND FULLY COMPLETED WITH
COMPLETE ADDRESSES AND TELEPHONE NUMBERS. 2) Market staff will process the stock in the usual efficient manner.
BUYERS
1) Buyers MUST allow social distancing. (2 metres between each other) 2) Intending Buyers MUST register prior to attending the market. ONLY BONA FIDE BUYERS WILL BE ALLOWED
IN THE MARKET – giving excuses to see your stock sold CANNOT be entertained. 3) Only TWO buyers will be permitted into the market office at any one time. 4) Buyers are advised to wear protective gloves and/or masks whilst in the market where possible.. 1) If you show any symptoms of the virus – DO NOT ATTEND! 2) We will continue our policy of telephoning for stock – IF WE HAVE NOT TELEPHONED YOU AND YOU INTEND TO BRING STOCK PLEASE RING THE MARKET WITH PROPOSED NUMBERS 3)
There are no catering arrangements on site. 4) Always sanitise or wash your hands before, after or as many times as you can. 5) Please arrive at market with your stock as early as possible to enable us to carry out the process efficiently
and to save your time.
Social Distancing
We draw everyone’ s attention again to the operating arrangements for all livestock markets
during lockdown. These include a drop and go for vendors leaving maximum space available for
GENUINE buyers who must remain socially distanced at all times in the rings and around the
market. Positions in the rings are clearly marked out and are strictly on a first come first served
basis. Please help us to keep the live markets operating for you.
BACS Payments to customers
Please note due to Melton Mowbray market now holding sales on both Tuesdays and
Wednesdays BACS payments to customers are now being initiated on Thursdays for credit into
customer accounts first thing Monday morning.

the banks caused by Covid-19, we would ask all purchasers who have
credit arrangements to pay us via BACS where possible rather than
post cheques. Details for payment can be found on all invoices issued
by the market. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to
contact us on 01664 562971. A reminder that all other payments
should be made on the day.
Pay on the day policy – reminder of terms We would like to remind our customers that all store and breeding stock must be paid for on the day. Prime stock purchasers can apply for terms using an account form, which can be posted or emailed on
request and are also available from the market office. For Primestock purchasers with credit agreements, credit terms will extend to a maximum of two weeks. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to
contact us on 01664 562971.
Farm assurance status Would all cattle vendors selling cattle as Farm Assured please ensure that their Farm Assurance is up to
date, with all linked holdings registered to the primary holding, and ensure that the stickers used in passports match the details held by the administering Farm Assurance body. We are increasingly having
issues with linked holdings not being covered under a primary FABBL account, and severe deductions are being applied at the time of slaughter. In such instances, the vendor is liable for all deductions made
Named/Numbered Sires Vendors are advised that named sires must be officially printed on the passport of the animal and not hand written. We will not sell animals as being named or numbered sire if the sire details are not printed onto the passport. Sire details may be checked with the breed societies online to ensure that they are correct. Please
also include sire details on your blue entry forms which accompany cattle to market. Thank you for your cooperation.

Store Cattle 428 Head Forward & Sold
Store Cattle continue to find sought after demand even amongst fears of a grass
shortage. Right on time the rain dances of many paid off with a shower (albeit
light) appearing to bolster confidence for those ringside. Another week and
fantastic to see so many supporters stood (socially distanced) ringside keen for
cattle of all qualities. It amazes me on a weekly basis how the varied degree of
quality seen at Melton from across the counties finds a home and is credit to
the new and old faces we are seeing on a weekly basis. As we have seen in the
Fat section and Claves –
‘More Buyers = More Stock, More Stock = More Buyers!’
May has been another record breaking month at Melton Mowbray for all
sections and huge thanks to all staff, vendors and buyers for their continued
support throughout the Corona Virus Pandemic at a time when most business
are struggling. Plans are afoot to transform the design of the current fat cattle
and store cattle rings as we look to the future to better enable efficiency, safety
and general practicality of the current setup and we thank customers in advance for their patience when we start these works.
As more and more retailers such a Burger chains start to open up (noted by the
amount of rubbish sadly seen down the quiet country lanes) there should be
restored confidence in the beef sector - Todays sale off to a flying start as we
saw a cracking pedigree Limousin cow and calf from Ian Hodge, Norfolk, selling
at £2000 with a Blonde bull from Moores Livestock, Grimstone to £1250 and in
calf cows PD+ 6 months to Continental Bulls to £1050 for Avon Blue Farming up

demand from start to finish – Keep them coming!
Please help us to help you by ensuring stock presented to market is
accompanied with the relevant paperwork, correct passports, tags and details
of pedigree registered sires for Angus and Hereford breeds if relevant so we
can help you achieve the best prices for your stock. Any vendors with
suspicions that young heifers could be in calf should seek relevant veterinary
advice or sell as ‘ran with the bull’ to omit themselves from any expensive
claims by purchasers under the Livestock Auctioneers Conditions of Sale at a
later date.
