Term 1 Week 6 Tuesday 2nd March, 2021.
A Message from Mr Barby I am so proud of our Year 6 leaders and the way they conducted themselves at last week’s leadership camp. From all reports the children had an absolute blast, were perfectly behaved and super engaged with the activities. The Principal at Bournda Environmental Education Centre had nothing but glowing reviews of our young leaders. Well done team. To all you young aspiring leaders out there, aim high. This camp will become a permanent fixture in the school calendar and a pivotal part of the leadership process at Milton Public School. Relieving Principal

Return your individual photo envelopes on the day or you may drop them into the secure box anytime before 25th March. School staff will keep it safe until photo day when it will be handed to the class teacher to distribute to children.
Leadership camp On Thursday last week, 23 of the school leaders jumped on 2 buses to head south for a leadership camp at Bounda environmental education centre. After a 3 hour bus ride filled with singing, laughing and interesting odours, the kids met Mr Reckord and his team for the first time. We kicked off with a 13km walk from Tathra to the field studies huts in Bournda, which was unfortunately cut short by the threat of lightning and thunder. The weather did pass luckily and we were all set to make a fire and enjoy the evening activities. After limited sleep, we rose the next morning to a beautiful day and Mrs Taffs prepping the morning fire. After some of the kids cooked their breakfast over the fire we headed out for more fun down at the beach. Kayaking and Bush survival were highlights of the day, before we were loaded back on the bus for the long trip home. The bus ride home was much quieter for some reason…. A great camp, with outstanding kids in a pristine location. A special thanks to the teachers who attended and devoted their time to this fine group of students.
Life Education Van The Life Education Van will be visiting Milton Public School from 8th - 18th March. This program has been successfully integrated into our K-6 Personal Development program for a number of years and we are committed to continuing this in 2021. The topics covered are: Early stage 1 : My Body Matters, Stage 1: Harold's Friendship, Stage 2 All Systems Go, Stage 3: Think Twice. If you would like to know more about the topics covered for your child’s grade, please see the class teacher. Permission notes have been sent home with all students.
Kindergarten Parents Afternoon Pick UP As you are aware, there are a large number of adults collecting Kindergarten students from the Wason Street gate between 3:15 and 3:30 pm. Neighbouring houses may also need to access the road/their driveways at this time. It is essential that parents collect their children and leave as soon as possible to avoid any accidents. Please try to stay off the road for safety reasons. Morning Drop OFF Our wonderful Kindergarten students have settled in beautifully and are now ready to join the Year 1 and 2 students following the normal school morning routine. The school provides supervision from 8:55 am. Students arriving before this time need to sit in the Top
Quad area (this is not supervised by a teacher so it is preferable that students arrive after 8:55 am).
At 8:55 am students will walk and line up near the library and wait for the duty teacher to arrive
The teacher will walk the students to the K-2 playground.
Please say goodbye to your child at their classroom (due to COVID restrictions families are not able to walk around the school).
We will have a Kindergarten teacher on duty near our rooms for the rest of this week directing students.
Please send a message if you have any questions. Thank you for your cooperation! The Kindergarten team
War on Waste We are doing our best at our school to reduce the amount of waste in landfill and help win the war on waste. Each play area has bins and tubs for soft plastics (blue bin), return and earn bottles (tub), reusable cups and cutlery (grey box) and landfill (red lid bin). We are educating students about recycling and thinking carefully about the correct bins to use. Each week volunteers from a class meet Mrs Watkins during the second half of lunch to empty bins and sort out the waste. Last week war on waste warriors from 6E did a fantastic job. This week it's 6P’s turn to help create a cleaner, greener planet.
Class of the week KH KH have been learning all about the numbers 1-10. Here they are showing how amazing they are at writing their numbers. Well done KH!
Parent/Teacher Meeting We’re very excited to announce that we will be able to hold our Meet the Teacher gatherings again this year. Each classroom teacher has assigned a day and time to hold these events. This is a great opportunity to get to know your child’s teacher and to find out about what will be happening in class this year. Due to COVID restrictions we ask that just the one parent attend on behalf of their child. There are still restrictions on social distancing and having too many adults in a room at one time could breech protocols.
Dear parents and carers, We would like to let you know about Milton Public School's Primary Ethics program. Primary Ethics was started in 2010 to offer NSW primary school students philosophical ethics as an alternative to attending non-scripture classes. Ethics classes are now offered in 500 schools around the state, all taught by volunteers. Classes teach children how to think logically, disagree respectfully, support arguments with evidence and think about decisions that affect them and people around them. The program has been growing steadily at Milton Public School. In 2021 we have 5 ethics classes covering Years 1 to 6, teaching more than 60 students. Due to increasing demand each year, new volunteer teachers are always needed. To teach ethics, you don't need previous experience teaching or working with children; all ethics teachers are fully trained to deliver the highly structured, age-appropriate Primary Ethics curriculum. Classes are 40 minutes once a week during the school term. If you're interested in becoming an ethics teacher, or if you know anyone who might be interested, please get in touch, or go to www.primaryethics.com.au to learn more. If you would like your child to attend ethics classes but there is no room available in their year level, please ask the office to put them on the waiting list. This is important as the waiting list allows us to see where demand lies and recruit teachers accordingly.
Mobile phones and devices at school Parents please be aware that students are not permitted to have mobile phones or devices at school. This includes on the school buses. If for some reason your child needs to bring a device to school, due to a family reason, then it must be checked in with the teacher in the morning and checked out in the afternoon. They are not to stay in bags, or be used in any way. If you or your child need to be in contact throughout the day this can be done through our school office.
Harmony Day Milton Public School staff and students will celebrate Harmony Day on Friday 19th March. This day is an opportunity to celebrate the cultural diversity of our country and acknowledge the customs and traditions of our multicultural society. All students will participate in a range of class / grade activities with a multicultural theme. We will start the day with an assembly in the hall at 9:30am. The canteen will also be offering a lunch time ‘Meal Deal’ with a variety of delicious food in keeping with the theme. Students will need to pre-order food using the online order system. A Harmony Day Canteen menu and details of how to order will go out next week.
Children should be at school every day Children should be at school unless: they have a medical certificate which states that they
are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition and the expected timeframe
they are currently unwell. For more information regarding illnesses where
children may need to stay home, please follow this link: https://education.nsw.gov.au/parents-and-carers/wellbeing/health-and-safety/too-sick-to-go-to-school
In accordance with advice from NSW Health External link, parents and carers are reminded NOT to send children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms.

District Swimming Carnival 2021 Milton Public School are district Champs again!! On Wednesday the 24th of February the Milton swimmers went down to Narooma to compete at district. Our school relays all got on the podium. Everyone swam unbelievably well scoring the team a lot of points. The Milton students were very sensible and encouraged their peers to swim as hard as they could, they also showed a lot of sportsmanship. At the end of the day Milton won the most points in the district, winning the carnival! By Cameron
The Regional Swimming carnival will be held on Wednesday the 10
th of
March. Notes will go home today with student who were selected to compete.
Canteen volunteers Our wonderful school canteen is run by Bec. As with most school canteens we rely on volunteers to help out on a daily basis. If you have some spare time up your sleeve, Bec would love your assistance. Please contact Bec at the canteen or leave your details with the office staff if you interested in becoming a canteen volunteer.
Paying for School Activities As Covid restrictions are lifted, we are once again able to organise school based activities and excursions. To assist in the payment of these activities we ask that families combine all permission notes into a single bag or envelope before returning it to school. Payment can be by cash or cheque, which will also need to be enclosed in the envelope, or payment can be made online through the school website. This can also be a single payment for multiple activities and for children in the same family. An information sheet has been attached to the email to explain more. Permission notes and payment can be placed in the secure box in the foyer before school. Teachers will be notified of payment details via daily reports.
Crunch and sip Crunch and Sip is a program that runs every day in our classrooms. Students are able to eat some fruit or vegetables and sip some water. This helps students not only with nutrition, but also with concentration levels. Please be reminded that fruit or veges should be pre-cut, bite sized pieces or smaller fruit such as berries sent in a small container that can be consumed whilst working - Not full fruit such as apples/oranges/peaches still on the core/seed that take the children too long to consume.
School attendance It is vital that students attend every school day to ensure consistency and continuity in their learning and to help develop positive relationships with their peers and teachers. It is a legal requirement that a note of explanation be provided if your child is absent from school (on the day they return to school). An explanation will outline the reasons your child/children were away. It is no longer acceptable to simply state “sick”. You will be asked to provide a medical certificate from your G.P. for longer periods of absence due to illness (3 days or more). Please discuss with your child the importance of daily attendance. Avoid ‘days off’ for birthdays, shopping etc… wherever possible. Our main priority is to see that students achieve their potential and this is certainly possible when there is minimal disruption to their learning. Our Home School Liaison Officer conducts regular roll audits and you may be requested to a meeting if school absenteeism becomes a concern. We appreciate your support and cooperation in this very important matter.
Regrow Conjola The Green Thumbs students received 400 seedlings last week from the Regrow Conjola project. Over the next few weeks they will be busy repotting. Thank you, this is a fantastic undertaking.

The fathering project I always love you, but I don't like this behaviour, lets do better We receive many questions from dads asking, "I know it's important to love my kids but how do I discipline them to not make them feel like they’re unloved?" Discipline is the process of teaching our children what behaviour is ac-ceptable and what is not acceptable. Discipline also teaches our children to follow rules at home, at school and in society. Positive discipline focus-ses on teaching and rewarding posi-tive behaviours and supporting our children to change negative behav-iours. How you communicate your disci-pline whilst still loving your child is a very powerful thing!
