Allied Health Professionals Parents are advised that allied health professionals, including therapists, will resume their school visits to work with identified students from 9th June. This will mean that students who were working with a therapist pre-covid will now continue to do so, whilst at school. If your situation has changed, please contact the therapist directly to inform them of the change.

Stage 1 virtual assembly Stage 1 students and teachers were missing their assemblies so much they decided to hold a live virtual assembly to showcase the amazing award winners for the week. Each class dialed in to a live broadcast where each class took it in turns to present their awards followed by tremendous applause coming through the speakers. It was great to see all the students engage in the achievements of students, not only in their class, but from across the stage. We are really looking forward to having our assemblies back to normal, however in the meantime we will continue to meet and share student successes virtually.

Home learning student work of the week The Tub Of Wonder by Charlize There was a boy who lived with the poor, But he felt like he needed something more. He wanted to sail in a boat, But the small ones he had wouldn't stay afloat.

Later that night he found a free tub, He had an idea but it needed a massive scrub. His idea was amazing and great, But all he needed was his mate. He used his bed sheets to make a sail, And decided to leave on the first of April. On the first April he woke up with a smile, But his friend was in denial. The boy encouraged him to come along, The great mate came and sang a song. They huffed and puffed and pushed the tub into the ocean, The boy was waving along in motion. After three days and after three nights, The boys were willing to see a sight. They wondered and wondered what they might find, The young mate yelled there was someone behind. It was a little girl with golden locks, She looked like she had the chickenpox. The two boys generously helped, And the girl said thank you whilst she yelped The girl wanted to do something fun, Whilst she was relaxing in the hot sun. They decided to sail to a nearby island, And lived there and called it Niland. They live on the island still to this day, And wanted to sail the world again in May.

Did You Know? Almost 3 in every 100 children have a peanut allergy. Even trace amounts of peanut or tree nuts can trigger an allergy and kill a child. Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that can cause itchy rash, throat or tongue swelling, shortness of breath, vomiting, light-headedness, low blood pressure and cardiac arrest. Tragically, Australian children have died at school from nut allergies. There are several children at Milton Public School who have a life-threatening nut allergy. Our school strongly encourages you to help minimise harm to those students by not sending nuts or nut products to school. Your assistance and understanding is very much appreciated.

Fathers Matter: Partnering with the school What does it mean to ‘partner’ with your child’s school? As a parent you are the very first educator of your child, and have had a huge influence on their learning since birth. For the next phase, when your child begins school, you will need to team up with the school and your child’s teachers. By developing a good relationship with the school and your child’s teachers you send powerful positive messages to your child about the importance of school and learning. Evidence – Did you know?

A fathers’ involvement in a child’s education has a strong influence on children getting high grades as well as on the child’s attitude to learning.

Children with fathers who have very high parental consistency from the age of 4 to 12, perform better in reading and writing.

Children do better in school when their fathers are involved in their school, regardless of whether their fathers live with them or live apart.

Top tips

Introduce yourself to the teacher at the beginning of each year.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher. They like to get to really know your child through your eyes as well.

Attend the class parent meeting at the beginning of the year to find out about the teacher’s goals, expectations, rules and limits. (If there is no arranged meeting, arrange to see the teacher yourself).

Work together with the teachers and the school to support your child academically, emotionally and socially.

If you are called in about a problem, be open to the situation and partner with the teacher to find solutions that are best for your child.

Remember both you and the school want the best for your child, so you need to work together to find the best strategies and actions.
