TERRY FOX DONATION COLLECTION – It’s the 36th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run! Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated, he embarked on a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and 5,373 kilometers (3,339 mi), and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy. The annual Terry Fox Run, first held in 1981, has grown to involve millions of participants in over 60 countries and is now the world's largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research; over C$650 million has been raised in his name. We are asking students to donate anything they can to help make Moscrop’s donation bigger than ever this year. Leadership 9 will be asking for donations on the following dates and times. Thank you, Leadership 9 / Ms. M. Chow

Today: Wednesday, September 20th – at lunch in the foyer Tomorrow: Thursday, September 21st – beginning of period 6 and 7, Tuesday, September 26th – outside the main entrance on your way to the run start line, and in the multi-purpose room at the run

finish line.

NEW! SHAD – APPLICATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED SHAD is a competitive program that attracts grades 10, 11 & 12 youth leaders and Change Makers across Canada and around the world. The application takes into consideration both academic results and extra-curricular participation. SHAD is an intense STEAM-based program that focuses on academic learning through lectures, workshops, labs and group projects. SHAD is not like high school. The SHAD learning environment is very different: Living in residence at one of our host university campuses away from home, you will be challenged to embrace and expand your understanding of science and its applications in real situations. SHAD challenges you to “think outside the box” and beyond what you have learned to date at school. Developing engineering prototypes, applying scientific principles, coupled with understanding business when it comes to developing an idea from its inception, to its creation, to realization is a key part of the program. A typical day at the program will include activities that not only take place in the classroom, but also educational field trips, as well as outdoor and recreational activities. The SHAD 2018 program will take place from July 1 to 27. The online application is available at WWW.SHAD.CA/APPLY . The due date for submission is November 20, 2017. Ms. Wispinski NEW! M. Chow
