Preliminary management zones for River Nature Park

I. “Protection Area” for floodable and ecologically sensitive areas, i.e. mangroves, mud-flats, river courses - areas recognized for SSSI, CA, and CPA. No civil engineering works should be conducted. Vehicle access, storm water/sewage discharges should be prohibited. Public should be discouraged from access.

II. “Passive recreation Area”: low level construction and human disturbances which have minimal and indirect impacts on habitats and water quality, e.g. boardwalk, foot paths. Some control over visitor numbers and/or access may be required. These areas may be recognized as ecologically less sensitive parts of CA, CPA or GB.

III. “Visitor Area”: located away from ecologically sensitive areas and facilities and activities should not affect the water quality of Tung Chung River or Bay such as minimal-impact facilities for general public, hikers, bikers, stream trekkers etc. The goal is to have no additional pollution load to Tung Chung River/Bay. These areas are not otherwise recognized as SSSI, CA, or CPA.
