eA reliable, high performance system for soil nailing and boltingOur GFRP CRG bolts are engineered from unidirectional glass fibre in a polyester resin matrix, with a continuous threaded profile. This profile and construction delivers significant performance improvements in friction effect (pull-out) and tensile strength.

A steel fitment enables these GFRP elements to be post-tensioned in bolting applications. A self-drilling system is available to address collapsible soil conditions.

GFRP CRG bolts are corrosion resistant, making them an ideal solution in aggressive environments such as mining works.

Our bolts form part of a system of carefully selected components including hexagonal nuts and couplers.

The pictures (above) show the different mechanical interaction between bars and cement grout during laboratory pull-out tests on conventional GFRP bars (regular threading AM) and GFRP CRG (CRG).

The graphs (right) show results from laboratory pull-out tests on standard improved adherence (AM, dashed lines) and corrugated (CRG, solid lines) bars, 24 hours and 48 hours after grout injection.

GFRP CRG Bolt 700Applications

Nailing (Ground Consolidation) > Passive reinforcement of the ground through the GFRP Bolt > Typically used to stabilise existing slopes or excavations where top-down construction can be an effective and viable

solution to other retaining systems > Can also be used for ground consolidation, e.g. for pre-consolidation of the tunnel face ahead of excavation

Benefits > High performance slope stabilisation > Can be used in conjunction with facing systems, including slope revegetation

Self Drilling (Type A) > The self drilling bolt system allows fast and efficient installation for soil or weak rock improvement > The drilling bit is fitted directly to the GFRP Bolt and the GFRP Bar works as the drilling rod > It is possible to use solid bar or hollow bar (mortar injection within the bar)

Benefits > High production in adverse soil conditions. The casing is not necessary in order to maintain the stability of the drill wall > Faster installation in time-critical situations

Self Drilling (Type B) > Used for hard rock and wedge stabilisation or where long nails are required > A sacrificial drilling ring is fitted to the hollow GFRP bar. Installation utilises a steel drilling rod with a down-hole hammer,

which are retractable once drilling is complete > This system limits the torsion and compression on the GFRP bar

Benefits > Greater depths are possible without damage to the bar > Reduced installation time and better control on drilling alignment

Bolting > GFRP Bolt is used to reinforce and support partially detached, thinly laminated or incompetent rock which otherwise would

be subject to failure > GFRP Bolt introduces additional stresses and strains in the rock helping stabilise the rock mass > System consists of GFRP Bolts anchored with chemical or cement grout and post-tensioned with plate and nut

Benefits > Stabilisation and improvement of unstable face conditions increases safety > Eases the excavation, removal and disposal (refer to local regulations) compared with standard steel bolts
