Overview of Turkish Chemical Industry

Turkey has sustained robust macroeconomic growth in recent years thanks to the government’s ambitious economic growth program. According to international economic organizations, it is expected to sustain this growth over the next 5 years.

Turkey has ambitious 2023 targets for the Chemical Industry which include reaching USD 50 billion in chemi-cal exports, thus capturing 0.79% share of the global chemicals market.

Turkey’s Chemical Industry’s production growth has exceeded the growth levels of the overall economy, suggesting other growth factors independent of the local economy. The industry grew at a CAGR of 11% from 2006 to 2011, reaching approximately USD 37 billion in 2011.

Turkish Chemical Industry supplies raw materials for the production of mainly petrochemicals, paint, coatings, varnish, fertilizers, synthetic fibre, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, personal care, detergent and home care products and plays an important role in the over all economy and foreign trade.

Importation in Turkish Chemical Industry

The most imported intermediate products in the chemical sector are petrochemical products therefore Turkey is the 2nd largest net importer of petrochemicals in the world. The imports of the petrochemical products have increased by 35 % in polymers, 18 % in fibre raw materials, 47 % in rubber raw materials and 31% in other petrochemical products in the past five years. Turkey is also one of the largest European consumers for textile and construction chemicals.

Importation of chemical raw materials and technology is highly prominent for Turkish Chemical Industry in general as we can see that 70 % of sector’s raw materials are imported while 30 % is produced domestically.

Turkey’s chemical imports increased from more than USD 55 billion in 2007 to more than USD 90 billion in 2012, indicating a CAGR 10% growth during these years. Turkey’s primary import partner is Russia with a 36% share, followed by Iran with 21% and Italy and Germany with 8% and 7%, respectively. Total imports retracted to USD 88 billion in 2013.

In 2015 sectoral import was USD $ 42.9 billion and mainly imported products were mineral fuels and oils, plastics and plastics goods, organic chemicals and pharmaceutical products. In 2015 first ten import countries were Germany, Russia, Italy, India, China, USA, South Korea, France, Saudi Arabia, Belgium.

Turkchem 2016 Facts and Figures

The grand opening of Turkchem 2016 hosted the important representatives of the industry including Timur Erk Chairman of Turkish Chemical Manufacturers Association (TCMA), Ahmet Yiğitbaşı Chairman of The Association of Turkish Paint Industry (BOSAD), Akın Akçalı Vice President of BOSAD, and Shi Xianping Chairman of China Dyestuff Industry Association. The exhibition featured 269 direct exhibitors from 14 countries and 714 companies and company representatives from 43 different countries on 25.000 m2 gross exhibition area.

11,786 industry professionals visited the show which included 586 international visitors from 50 different countries for 3 days. With its qualified and professional visitor portfolio; Turkchem 2016, provided a platform for the exhibitor companies not only to strengthen their relationships with existing customers but also to establish new business connections and sales leads.

AKPA KİMYA - HAYRİ ÖZALPWe have been participating in Turkchem since 2006. It has been a positive experience for us in terms of communicating with our potential customers. Also we had the opportunity to socialize with our peers in the industry outside of commercial environment.

ARKEM KİMYA - HÜSEYİN ARDA KULA We have been participating in Turkchem for many years. The exhibition is very useful as it provides the opportunity to meet new customers and suppliers, also provides a productive platform for establishing new business connections. In this regard, we have had very good results from this exhibition.

Turkchem 2014 exhibition was a very good opportunity for our company. Over the past two years, we have decided to re-attend the exhibi-tion within the scope of integration of Cargill and Alemdar Kimya. ANAMED & ANALİTİK GROUP - MELEK MALKOÇWe have worked hard for this exhibition and it payed off. Our main goal was to attract attention with new applications that provide benefits for the future of Turkey in international platforms. Anamed & Analitik Group has been working and designing on inventory products in order to give benefit for the future of Turkey for ten years. We achieved this goal with small scale production equipments.

DURAN GROUP - BASTIAN MANUELFirst of all, we would like to thank Artkim Group for hosting us. This is our first time to be here asDuran Group at Turkchem Exhibition. We are very pleased to be here. We have had good conversati-ons, met nice people who are professionals in their fields and talked about nice future projects.

Merck is the oldest chemical company in the World with 350 years history. Exhibition is going well for us because it is related to the pharmaceutical, food and chemical sectors. METROHM TURKEY - ANDRE YANÇO We are one of the first exhibitors of Turkchem. We traditionally launch our new products at this exhibition. This year we are promoting out new product OMNIS which we launched in last May. We prefer to exhibit at Turkchem because it gathers all laboratory technologies together and we don’t participate in any other exhibition. We show high presence as a company. There were many visitors at our stand especially in the second day of the exhibition. We are very happy with the result. We also can meet our existing customers. We have already organized future meetings with potential customers. We are also planning to display new products in the exhibi-tion of 2018. 7

METTLER TOLEDO TR - TEMEL ŞEFKATLİ We have been participating in Turkchem Exhibition for many years. We aim to present our value chain to our customers with all our product groups. Mettler Toledo Turkey serves such solutions to our customers from raw materials section, packaging and production. Our aim is to show our system in this exhibition. We can directly contact our potential customers easily. The first and second days of the exhibition were especially busy for us. We think that the organiser of this exhibition is successful and experienced. We know that the promotional campaigns were very effective.

NÜVE - RAMAZAN AKKUZUTurkchem 2016 Exhibition was very productive for us. We had chance to meet new customers during three days of the exhibition. We noted the comments from our customers and we will return them. We have a successful exhibition.

SARTONET- ÖMER ERDEM We have been playing a part in the industry for 32 years as Sartonet. Even though mainly we operate in the pharmaceuticals industry, we have products which are related to the chemical industry as well. We are the representative of Sartorius which means scale in Latin. The company has been operating for 157 years. They produce the most sensitive scales. In Turkey we are the only representative of the filter department. Sartorius combines these companies under one roof and make a strong technical service system through the custo-mers. We also get the chance to launch our products in this Exhibition.

SEM BIO TECHNOLOGIES - ASEF ÖZHANWe have attended Turkchem Exhibition periodically. Our aim to be here is to introduce our company to the sector. The exhibition is successful for gathering the companies in chemical industry. We are planning to exhibit at Turkchem Exhibition in the next years as well.

GÜNGÖR PLASTİK - ERHAN GÜLNAR We aim to join Turkchem Exhibition in order to maintain our existing customers, host them at our stand and show our new products. It is our other purpose to talk about our factory’s activities and to contact with companies in the chemical sector. We intend to sell our industrial packaging products to groups that have not previously been included in our customer portfolio. It is important for us to be the part of this exhibition.

STAUBLI - KEREM KEÇECİ Despite recession in market we see that exhibitors and visitors are interested in Turkchem Exhibition. So we are pleased and happy to be here.
