First I must say, I CANNOT DISCUSS SPECIFIC COMPANIES, or specific plans THIS IS AN EDUCATIONAL TOWN HALL, AND WE ARE NOT ATTEMPTING TO STEER YOU TOWARDS ANY PLAN OR COMPANY. Xtreaming Live is not affiliated with any insurance company. Xtreaming Live and any of its employees never receive compensation for sales of Medicare products by attendees of these Town Halls. Also the professionals we offer as resources to our attendees have no input or say in the content or delivery of these Town Halls. We will explain all the benefits that may be available to you as you become eligible for Medicare. Also we will talk about the possible penal- es if you dont make the right choices at the right me. At the end of the broadcast we are going to be giving away over $15,000 in cash, vacaons and prizes. But you must be watching to be eligible. Your me means a lot to us and we appreciate you spending a few minutes with us. The program should last no more than 30 minutes. You might want to grab some paper and a pencil, youre going to be geng a lot of detailed informaon. Let me tell you a lile about myself. I started working with seniors over 13 years ago. I have worked one on one with over a 1000 seniors. I have taught classes on understanding Medicare. I even had a radio program for 3 years that was all about seniors. I was raised by my grand- mother and saw firsthand the struggles she had with geng good informaon to a lot of quesons that came up as she got older. So I really understand how things have changed over the years & how difficult it is for seniors to try and navigate to get to the real meaningful details. If youre already a Medicare recipient or if youre eligible for Medicare now, its crucial for you to understand ALL your benefits. Most Americans would agree that Medicare is a great program. But we all know it has limitations. I t was never designed to take care of all your health care needs. OR TO PAY ALL YOURE EXPENSES. So lets do an Overview of Medicare Parts Part A = Hospital Insurance and Outpatient services. If you need to stay in the hospital, the current deductible is $1,260 per benefit period. A Deductible IS what YOU have to pay. If you dont have additional coverage besides Medicare A & B, this is what you have to pay each benefit period. Because of the way Medicare designed their benefit periods, you could pay this several times a year if you require more than one hospital stay. The $1,260 deductible covers you for up to 60 days. Part B = Medical Insurance (Your primary doctor visits etc.) The Standard Premium = $104.90 per month – can change due to your income. Some people have to pay up to $335.70 per month. Premiums usually go up yearly. The 2015 Deductible (that's what YOU have to pay before the plan starts to pay) = $147 per year Then you have Coinsurance – you pay 20% of all charges you incur. Medicare pays 80% - they pay the biggest part. Thats why they call it coinsurance – you and Medicare are in it together. PART B PENALTY – if you dont take part B at the correct time, you can face a 10% penalty, per YEAR, for the rest of your life. That adds up – if you wait 3 years after retirement to start taking Part B, youll then pay 30% more for your plan each month, for as long as you live. Some people make the mistake of taking Part B too soon and waste money and waste the opportunity to get additional insurance without any health questions being asked. So, make sure you talk with an expert regarding the right time to enroll into Part B. Here is a key point there is no cap on your expenses with Original Medicare! There is no maximum out of pocket! That s important to know as you think through your financial plans for the future. One of the biggest reasons for older people going into bankruptcy is because of medical costs. And that includes seniors on Medicare. Now let's talk about Part C or MEDICARE ADVANTAGE – these are called Advantage Plans because they may offer extra benefits Original Medicare does not offer –Medicare.gov defines Part C this way: This is a type of Medicare health plan offered by a private company that contracts with Medicare to provide you with all your Part A and Part B benefits. They are called ADVANTAGE plans because they often have more benefits than original Medicare, for example they often include drug coverage. 1 st Some plans charge no monthly premium. Im often asked how this is POSSIBLE. Sounds too good to be true! Heres how it works: Medicare PAYS these plans to take care of you! So, even if you see a plan with a Zero PREMIUM – that means that YOU dont have to pay a pre- mium. Medicare IS paying though! Part C plans may offer extra coverage like vision, hearing, dental, and/or health and wellness programs. Part C plans have Copays – the amount you have to pay out of pocket to see the doctor, for example. Almost all Medicare Advantage plans have no DEDUCTIBLES – so you could see your doctor at the beginning of the year, and just have to pay a small copay, but not a large deductible! Medicare Advantage plans contract for 1 year at a time. So their benefits CAN change year to year. Your address is what determines which plan you can enroll in. Part C plans are filed with the government on a County-by-County basis. One plan might be in SOME Counties around your home, and NOT be in others. Now Part D = Prescription Drug Plans Drug plans are also from Private Companies contracted with Medicare Drug plans have a monthly PREMIUM – which generally goes up each year. Drug plans have FORMULARIES – the list of covered drugs that theyll pay for. Medicare has minimum rules, but no two companies formularies are the same. You NEED to check to make sure ALL your drugs are covered under the formulary. A licensed, appointed and certified Agent is a great resource to help you compare plans and formularies. You can get a standalone Drug plan, OR one that is part of your Medicare Advantage plan. But heres a WARNING I need to give you: there are dangers here – Medicare plan rules are complex! Please be careful in your research. This is a place where a local licensed expert can really help you! Our company sets up a profile for everyone we visit with in the national formu- lary database. Then, each year during open enrollment we can check your plan against the new plans for the next year to see which plan will give you the lowest out of pocket expense. Like all of our services there is no cost for this. Ok, lets talk about Medicare Supplement or Medigap Plans The last option and the most widely known and used is a Medicare Supplement. A lot of seniors confuse Medicare supplements with Medicare Advantage plans. Very simply these are plans you buy from Private Insurance Companies. Med Supps as they are called, fills in the gaps of the % that Medicare doesn't pay. These plans have letters attached to them, like Plan F, for example. Each plan lettermust offer the same benefits nationwide. One of the most popular Med Supps is Pan F... it pays Medicare's 20% so you have no other out of pocket needs for a monthly fee.. Medicare supplements have what I like to call Piece of mind benefit. (EXPLIAN) There is also a really great benefit with having a Med Sup...you get to choose your own Part D Plan. There are up to 45 part D plans Medicare Advantage plans play to the middle with part D. And you have to take what they offer. But with a med supp you can pick and choose the best part D for yourself. And in a lot of cases you can save enough money to pay for your med supp. Also med sups allow you to change anytime you want if something better is available. Also when it comes to doctors and hospitals basi- cally 95% of all doctors are available to you. There is a monthly premium – much like company-sponsored health insurance KEY POINT: You can never be dropped due to bad health or claims! Also based on your personal status there are some plans that give you a discount of up to 7% a local expert can help you wind through the maze of options, so you can choose what best suits your needs. Thats the basics of Medicare for you! Let's move on to some special benefits available to seniors There is a program that most seniors are not even aware that is available to them. It is your personal Medicare Profile. Every Medicare en- rollee has one and there is informaon on there that can help you immensely. For instance if you qualify for special benefits it will be on there. Your Part D benefits and when you will hit the doughnut hole is on there, what charges on your doctors bill when you have visits and so much more. It is a wonderful program and it is free to every Medicare enrollee and yet most have never used it or even know about it. If you have specific quesons or concerns about anything we have talked about and understanding all your benefits. We encourage you to get in touch with the person who invited you to this Town Hall. You can also go back to the Xtreaming Live website and just fill out the Con- tact me page and we will send your request to them. There is a link at the boom of your screen that will take you directly to the contact me page. There is also a link to a poll and we encourage you to let us know how we did today. Having a professional a Medicare Specialist review with you all the opons you have is a crucial step. Medicare is a great resource but they cant tell you what is best for your personal situaon. And plans are different in every state and even in every county in America. Also your plans can and oſten change every year. So making sure you have the best benefits for your situaon is vital. We are talking about your mon- ey and more importantly your health. Even if you dont use any program beside basic Medicare you have to choose a Part D plan. Be sure you get help. Folks we love to help people and we put on these Town Hall informaonal programs as a public service to help inform and educate people. We give the giſts away as part of our community service. Well folks that wraps up the Making Sense of Medicare. Lets move on to the prizes. The show will include lots of visuals throughout the broadcast.
