An alternative to SafeAssign• SafeAssign was deemed to be unstable during

last Nov / Dec. Many institutes in Singapore and overseas are affected.

• Too many paper submissions and cause server slowness. Paper received very late SA report or no report after several days

• NIE BB team source for more reliable and stable system.

An alternative to SafeAssign

• Turnitin is the equivalent and most commonly use product besides SafeAssign.

• SafeAssign is free, Turnitin is paid service. Both server hosted in US.

• Turnitin offers bigger database compare to SafeAssign, most publishers subscribe to it.

What is Turnitin?

• Turnitin is an extension of blackboard system which detect plagiarism in students’ work.

• The originality check compares student papers to millions of online sources and return results in minutes.

• The comparing content database includes 135 million of archive student papers, millions of subscribed journals and articles.

Advantage • check against wide range of publications• allow multiple attempts for student to submit assignment• originality report is more user-friendly and comprehensive

• check against the past year student assignments• student receive confirmation email after submission

Disadvantage • initiate stage, no database of NIE past year student assignments – Instructors can upload as ZIP to build on the repository

• DO NOT allow student to submission multiple times -Instructor to create Draft and Final assignment placeholder• students DO NOT receive confirmation email after submission
