COVERING TUSKEGEE WOMEN’S BASKETBALLThe Athletic Communications Office compiles and presents information to the media on the Tuskegee athletics program utilizing press releases, media guides, e-mails and the Athletics website, www.goldentigersports.com. The women’s basketball page on the web-site contains the latest releases, notes, and statistics.

The Athletic Communications Department is under the direction of Travis Jarome and is located in the Chappie James Arena, Room 320.

CHAPPIE JAMES ARENAPress row for Tuskegee basketball games is located on the west concourse level at Chap-pie James Arena. The media entrance to the arena is from the northeast corner of the Arena, and the southeast entrance is also used for the credential will call.

Parking is located just off the northeast corner of the Arena for media with proper credentials.

MEDIA & PHOTO CREDENTIALSCredentials for Tuskegee home women’s basketball games are issued for working media only and must be requested through the sports information office. Only photographers on assignment from an accredited media agency will be issued credentials.

Photographers are required to abide by the guidlines set forth by the NCAA on shooting limitations from the sidelines. Those not complying with the guidelines may be removed.

MEDIA SERVICESPregame packets including notes, statistics and game-day programs will be available pri-or to the start of the contest. Game statistics will be provided at the conclusion of every game. Final statistics will be e-mailed following each game. If you wish to be added to the post-game distribution list, call Travis Jarome in the Athletic Communications Office at (334) 727-7150.

INTERVIEWSFollowing home games, head coach Quacy Barnes-Timmons will have a postgame in-terview with the official broadcast station of Tuskegee Athletics following a brief cool-ing-off period. Coach Timmons and selected players will then go to the media room to meet with media members in attendance.

Tuskegee’s locker room will remain closed at all times. Requests for selected players must be submitted to the athletic communications staff by the one-minute mark, with the exception of games being decided in the final minute.

WEBSITES, BLOGS, LIVE UPDATESLocal and national organizations that maintain a news-based website in connection with their regular newspaper or magazine, as well as radio or television broadcasts, shall be issued credentials on a game-by-game basis

Tuskegee University is an independent and state-related institution of higher education.

Its programs serve a student body that is coeducational as well as racially, ethnically and religiously diverse. With a strong orientation toward disciplines which highlight the relationship between education and work force prepa-ration in the sciences, professions and technical areas, Tuskegee University also emphasizes the importance of the liberal arts as a foundation for successful careers in all areas. Accordingly, all academic majors stress the mastery of a required core of liberal arts courses.

Tuskegee University is located in Tuskegee, Alabama, which is 40 miles east of the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery, Alabama, and 20 miles west of the city of Auburn, Alabama. It is also within easy driving distance to the cities of Birmingham, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia.

The academic programs are organized into five colleges and two schools: (1) The College of Agriculture, Environ-ment and Nutrition Sciences; (2) The Andrew F. Brimmer College of Business and Information Science; (3) The Col-lege of Engineering; (4) The College of Arts and Sciences; (5) The College of Veterinary Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health; (6) The Robert R. Taylor School of Architecture and Construction Science; and (7) The School of Education. The curricula for these colleges and schools currently offer over 50 degrees including 39 Bachelor’s, 13 Master’s, 2 Doctor’s of Philosophy: one in Materials Science and Engineering, and one in Integrative BioSciences, and the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

Graduate instruction leading to the Master’s degree and Doctor of Philosophy Degree is offered in three of the five colleges.

The University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS); and the following programs are accredited

by national agencies: Architecture, Business, Education, Engineering, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing, Occu-pational Therapy, Social Work, and Veterinary Medicine. Of special note is the fact that Tuskegee University is the only independent, historically black university with four engineering programs that are nationally accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET), the major accrediting body for the engineering sciences. Also, Tuskegee University’s Chemistry program is one of only a few among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) that is approved by the Ameri-can Chemical Society. Furthermore, the Dietetics Program is approved by the American Dietetic Association and the Food Science Program is approved by the Institute of Food Technologists.

Tuskegee University was the first black college to be designated as a Registered National Historic Landmark (April 2, 1966), and the only black college to be designat-ed a National Historic Site (October 26, 1974), a district administered by the National Park Service of the U. S. Department of Interior.

Special features in Tuskegee University’s program include: The General Daniel “Chappie” James Center for Aerospace Science and Health Education, honor-ing America’s first black four-star general who was a Tuskegee University graduate, and housing the nation’s only Aerospace Science Engineering program at an HBCU; Media Center, School of Veterinary Medicine, with state-of-the-art video up-link and down-link, intra-school communications, audio/visual, graphics, photography and document production; The Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center, a state-of-the-art hotel and meeting facility for educational, business and cultural events; The Tuskegee University National Center for Bioethics in Research and Health Care, a distinctive research, teaching and outreach program that addresses issues of ethics and public policy in the treatment of people of color and rural Americans in health care.

Dr. Brian Johnson is the seventh President of Tuskegee University.

He has held administrative and academic posts in the following capacities: Vice President for Strategic Planning & Institutional Effectiveness, Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Chief of Staff, Director, Coordinator and Associate and Assistant Professor of English. He received a Ph.D. in 17th-19th Century American literature at The University of South Carolina at Columbia (2003), a M.A. in English from The University of Wisconsin-Madison (1998) and a B.A. in English from Johnson C. Smith University (1995).

Among several administrative and academic fellowships, he has been named a (2012-2013) (A.C.E.) American Council of Education Fellow (Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis Chancellor’s Office/IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy), a (2012-2013) (A.A.S.C.U.) Du Bois: Toward Agnosticism (2008) and Du Bois on Reform: Periodical-based Leadership for African Americans (2005); co-editor of (4) volumes on American History in the Conflicts in American History Series (2010) - Volume 3: Civil War, Volume 4: Reconstruction, Volume 7: The Long Civil Rights Movement and Volume 8: Towards the Next American Century; author of (1) institutional history of a historically black college and university - his alma mater, Johnson C. Smith University - titled, The Yancy Years: the Age of Infrastructure, Technology and Restoration (2008).

In August 1995, Dr. Johnson published an article, the (Raleigh) News and Observer titled, “A Young Man Apart, A World Apart,” which describes his experiences hailing from inner-city Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Johnson is married to Shemeka Barnes Johnson, and they have two sons, Brian Asa Johnson and Nathan Morgan Qodesh Johnson and is a member of the board of trustees for The Trinity Forum.

CITY OF TUSKEGEETuskegee is located in central Alabama, 40 miles east of Montgomery. Tuskegee is the county seat of Macon County and has an area of 15.7 square miles, 15.5 of which is land, and 0.2 of which is water. The City of Tuskegee has a council-city manager form of government that consists of a four-member elected city council that includes the mayor and an appointed city manager, who acts as the chief administrative officer and oversees public services. The council members and the city manager each serve four-year terms. Tuskegee has been home to a number of nationally recognized figures. Rosa Parks was born in 1913 in Tuskegee. The Commodores, who had a number of funk and soul hits during the 1970s and 1980s, met as students at Tuskegee University. Their lead singer, Lionel Ritchie, who later went on to considerable success as a solo act, attended Tuskegee on a tennis scholarship and graduated with a major in economics. Andre Thornton, who had a 14-year career in Major League Baseball for the Chicago Cubs, Montreal Expos, and Cleveland Indians, was born in Tuskegee in 1949.

EARLY HISTORYThe land on which Tuskegee now stands was first settled soon after the French and Indian War of 1754-63. The treaty officially ending the war declared that France would surren-der Alabama to the English, who took control of the French fort at Tuskegee. After the American Revolution, the United States took possession of the area, which became part of the Mississippi Territory and in 1819 part of the state of Alabama. The settlement of Tuskegee was founded and laid out in 1833, one year after the establishment of Macon County by General Thomas Simpson Woodward, who fought in the Creek Indian wars under General Andrew Jackson. Woodward is said to have selected Tuskegee as the county seat. He also built the first home in town.

At the time of Tuskegee’s founding, the area was still populated by members of the Creek Nation. The town itself was named after a Creek leader named Taskigi, whose town was located in the triangle formed by the convergence of the Coosa and Tallapoosa rivers. Tus-kegee was located along an historic Indian trail that later became the highway between Fort Mitchell and Montgomery. After the Creek Indians were removed from Alabama in 1836, the area began to fill with white settlers. The city was officially incorporated in 1843, and the first local newspaper, the Tuskegee News, was first published in April 1865.Tuskegee was one of five settlements in Macon County that attracted a significant amount of trading business by 1855. Of these settlements, however, Tuskegee was the only one that did not have the advantage of being located on a railroad, but because it was the county seat as well as in a central location, it still drew business. Also, because the rail-road did not run through Tuskegee, as it did in most towns, the town streets were laid out around the central square where the courthouse was located.

The town gained national fame with the establishment of what is now Tuskegee University in 1881 by educator Booker T. Washington and through the agricultural research made fa-mous by George Washington Carver. Tuskegee gained additional recognition during World War II as the site of the Tuskegee Airfield, home of the renowned Tuskegee Airmen. More than 1,000 pilots were trained at historic Moton Field and Tuskegee Army Air Field. In more recent history, the town garnered much negative press as the site of the infamous Tuskegee Syphilis Study, in which African American men were used as subjects, without their knowledge or consent, in a public health study on the effects of untreated syphilis. The experiment resulted in the creation of the National Center for Bioethics in Research in Health Care at Tuskegee University in 1997.

EVENTS AND PLACES OF INTERESTTuskegee University is home to several attractions, including the Tuskegee Institute Na-tional Historic Site, which includes the original buildings constructed in brick by the first students. It has been part of the National Park System since 1974. The site also includes the George Washington Carver Museum and The Oaks, Booker T. Washington’s home. The Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, at Moton Field, is a major historical attraction that is currently housed in a temporary visitors center. A new interpretive facility is in the planning stages. In honor of one of Tuskegee’s most famous figures, the town holds two annual celebrations: the George Washington Carver (GWC) Arts and Crafts Festival and the Annual Carver Sweet Potato Festival. The GWC Arts and Crafts Festival is held on the Tuskegee Square every May on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. It features arts and crafts, vendors, rides, farm exhibits, talent shows, and other entertainment including door prizes. The Annual Carver Sweet Potato Festival is held every third Saturday in October.



DANIEL “CHAPPIE” JAMES ARENAThe General Daniel “Chappie” James Center for Aerospace Science and Health Edu-cation was dedicated on May 10, 1987 by then President of the United States Ronald Reagan. The massive James Center is named for Tuskegee University’s distinguished graduate, General Daniel “Chappie” James, the first Black American to achieve the rank of Four-Star General in the United States military. The $18.6 million Center includes classrooms, offices and technical laboratories for the aerospace science engineering program (the only aerospace science engineering pro-gram on a predominantly Black university campus); a rifle range, offices and classrooms for Army and Air Force ROTC; a memorial library/museum in honor of General James; the President’s Lounge; a 5,000-seat University Arena/Convocation Center; athletic department offices, four team dressing rooms, a trainer’s room and an olympic-size natatorium to support the University’s program in health and physical edu-cation; and an outdoor plaza in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen. In addition, the actual plane last flown by General James, an F-4C, is on display on the grounds of the James Center. An overcross bridge connects the Center to the main engineering building. The deceased General is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

The presidential visit by Ronald Reagan was the culminating event of the annual Moth-er’s Day Commencement Program, but the series of events leading up to it included the dedication of the F-4C aircraft, the plane flown by General James during a tour of duty in Southeast Asia, and the dedication of the Tuskegee Airmen’s Plaza. The Tuskegee basketball team played its first game in the James Center Arena on November 20, 1987. Dr. Charles Thompson’s Golden Tigers defeated Florida Memorial College of Miami, Florida, 110-100. The first game played in the Center was between Clark Atlanta University and Bowie State University on the same date, won by Clark Atlanta. The James Center Arena is the third home for the Tuskegee Basketball Golden Tigers and Tigerettes. Huntington Hall served as the home court from 1908-1931 and Logan Hall from January 9, 1931 until 1987.

Curtis Campbell enters his third year as the Athletic Director at Tuskegee University after being chosen to lead the department July 1, 2013.

During his tenure at Tuskegee, the Golden Tigers have claimed SIAC championships in multiple sports. The football program claimed the 2014 SIAC championship, and they qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs in the first two years they were eligible to compete – in 2013 and 2014; the men’s basketball team claimed the SIAC Tournament in 2014 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the first time in school history; and the softball team claimed back-to-back SIAC Tournaments in 2014 and 2015, qualifying for the NCAA Division II South 1 Region both seasons.

In addition to the team efforts, the athletic department also has seen 40 student-ath-letes be awarded for their performances in their sport with a selection to the SIAC All-Conference teams in their respective sports, with multiple All-Americans and All-Academic selections.

During his tenure at Tuskegee, the Golden Tigers have hosted postseason events on campus for the SIAC and NCAA. The cross country programs hosted the 2013 SIAC Cross Country Championships at the Macon County Road and Bridge Department, and the football program hosted their first-ever NCAA Division II playoff game against West Georgia in 2014.

While also serving as the athletic director at Tuskegee, Campbell also serves on two committees for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). He serves on the NCAA Division II Management Council and the NCAA Division II Legislative Committee for the governing body of collegiate sports.

The NCAA Division II Management Council is the highest council that a non-president of a college and/or university can be appointed to, and reports directory to the Presidents Council and is charged with recommending administrative policy and regulations that govern the division. The Management Council reviews and acts on recommendations from the Division II committee structure and from Division II representatives to com-mittees with Association-wide functions. Campbell has been a member of the NCAA Division II Management Council since 2014.

Meanwhile, the NCAA Division II Legislative Committee’s primary charge is to determine interpretations of all Division II-specific legislation and incorporate new legislation and interpretations in the NCAA Manual. The committee also reviews and considers legislative issues of those portions of the Association’s constitution and by-laws that relate to the principles governing financial aid and amateurism, professional sports relations, recruiting, personnel limitations, and playing and practice seasons. Campbell has been a member of the NCAA Division II Legislative Committee since 2011.

Prior to his time at Tuskegee, Campbell was the athletic director at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa.

While at Stillman, he oversaw several major athletic projects. In 2009, Campbell was instrumental in the opening of the Stillman College Tennis Facility. During his tenure,

there were extensive renovations to Birthright Alumni Hall, home of the basketball and volleyball programs. As an administrator, he also worked to increase operational and scholarship funds for each of Stillman’s 12 sports.

During his time, Stillman posted a number of first-time events in competition: the school’s first NCAA national outdoor track and field champion, the department’s first SIAC tennis titles, the men’s basketball team reached the South Region final – the best an SIAC school had accomplished in recent history; and the baseball team won their first game in NCAA region play and reached the South Region final for the first time in program history.

Campbell also upgraded the attention to student-athlete welfare at Stillman. He organized the department’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee and initiated the development of the school’s chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Stillman had numerous all-academic teams and numerous student-athletes that earned academic honors during their time in the Department of Athletics. As a result, 10 student athletes graduated with honors at the 2013 commencement service. Under his leadership, two of the last three valedictorians at the college were student-athletes.

Prior to his position at Stillman, he served for two years as athletic director at Division III Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill. At Blackburn, Campbell completely renovated the weight room and improved the operation of the sports information office. During his tenure, Blackburn also successfully hosted the 2006 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Con-ference (SLIAC) men’s basketball tournament and the 2006 SLIAC sportsmanship summit. He also worked to improve athletic-academic relations at Blackburn while streamlining the efficiency of the athletic department.

Campbell has extensive experience with Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools. He also worked at Kentucky State University for four years, where he served as assistant athletic director for compliance and later served as interim athletic director. While at KSU, he also monitored athletic scholarships, assisted with game-day operations, coordinated tickets and ticket sales, and assisted with the management and development of the athletic budget.

Prior to his time at KSU, Campbell served as coordinator of student-athlete development at the University of Minnesota, where he assisted in the development and implementa-tion of a comprehensive CHAMPS Life Skills Program for 700 student-athletes. He also coordinated the community service program for student-athletes and their respective coaches. In addition to his administrative background, Campbell has teaching experience and served on numerous committees including being chair of the SIAC football and baseball committees.

Campbell graduated from Longwood University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work in 1990, and received his Masters Degree in Student Affairs Administration from Radford University.

Campbell and his wife Sereta are the proud parents of two sons: Caleb, 19; and Cagan, 15.

TIGERETTES IN THE COMMUNITY



THE SIACThe Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) was founded in 1913 and today, more than 100 years later, the conference remains one of the nation’s most viable forces in inter-collegiate athletics. On December 30, 1913, representatives of the following institutions met at Morehouse College to consider the regulations of intercollegiate athletics among black colleges in the southeast: Alabama State University, Atlanta University, Clark College, Fisk University, Jackson College, Morehouse College, Morris Brown College, Talladega College and Tuskegee Institute. The representatives formed a permanent organization (The Southeastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) which has had a continuous history to the present. In 1929, they changed the name of this organization to The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Two institutions have held continuous membership in the conference: Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University) and Tuskegee University. Other institutions which have held membership are Alabama A&M University, Allen University, Benedict College, Bethune-Cookman Universi-ty, Edward Waters College, Fisk University, Florida A&M University, Jackson State University, Knoxville College, Morris Brown College, Rust College, Savannah State University, South Caro-lina State University, Tennessee State University and Xavier University.

The present membership is composed of fourteen different institutions in six states (Ala-bama, Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio, South Carolina and Tennessee): Albany State University, Ben-edict College, Central State University, Claflin University, Clark Atlanta University, Fort Valley State University, Kentucky State University, Lane College, LeMoyne-Owen College, Miles Col-lege, Morehouse College, Paine College, Stillman College and Tuskegee University. In the fall of 2014, Spring Hill College (Mobile, Alabama) will join the SIAC as its 15th member.

The SIAC is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and participates on the Division II level. Annually, the SIAC sponsors seven men’s championships (baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, outdoor track & field and tennis) and six women’s championships (basketball, cross country, outdoor track & field, softball, tennis and volley-ball). As the second oldest historically black college and university athletic conference, the SIAC has one of the most storied histories in all of the NCAA. Many of the conference’s former athletes and coaches have transcended to larger-than-life characters that continue to be monumental in the world of sports. Furthermore, the chronicles of many SIAC programs are have been vital to the foundation of American society.

SIAC schools are known for being staunch competitors, where many have flourished to the realms of national and global celebrity. As a whole, the conference has staked its claim to more than 50 team and individual national championships. In 1978, Florida A&M became the first black college to win a NCAA Football National Championship on any level when they defeat Massachusetts, 35-28, in the inaugural NCAA I-AA Championship Game.

The SIAC has a rich history on the gridiron, as some of the biggest names in college and professional sports began their careers in the conference. Headlining the list are Pro Foot-ball Hall of Famers “Bullet” Bob Hayes (Florida A&M), David “Deacon” Jones (South Carolina State), Larry Little (Bethune-Cookman), Shannon Sharpe (Savannah State), John Stallworth (Al-abama A&M) and Rayfield Wright (Fort Valley State). Former Tuskegee legend Ben Stevenson, legendary Florida A&M football coach Jake Gaither, Fort Valley State’s all-time winningest head football coach Douglass Porter, Florida A&M’s Tyrone McGriff and Willie “Gallopin Gall” Gailmore are enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. Fort Valley State alums Greg Lloyd, a former All-Pro for the Pittsburgh Steelers and recent inductee into the SIAC Hall of Fame, along with Tyrone Poole, a two-time Super Bowl Champion for the New England Patriots, are members of the NCAA Division II Football Hall of Fame.

Former Morehouse All-SIAC quarterback Jerome Boger has established himself as a top tier NFL official, recently serving as the head official for Superbowl XLVII between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. Playing a key role in that same contest was Lane alum and current Ravens wide receiver/kick returner Jacoby Jones, who scored two touchdowns in the game. Jones highlights an impressive roster of former SIAC student-athletes playing in the league. Overall, the conference has produced more than 300 NFL players.

The SIAC is also home to football coaching legends Alonzo “Jake” Gaither and Cleveland Leigh “Major” Abbott. Gaither posted a 203-36-4 record (.835) and guided Florida A&M to six black college national championships, coupled with 22 SIAC titles during his 25-year tenure as head coach. Cleve Abbott coached all sports at Tuskegee during his 32 years at the school from 1923-1955. During this time, he won 11 SIAC football championships and seven black college national championships. Abbott’s teams were frontrunners in the conference during the 1920’s, posting six undefeated seasons while winning 46 consecutive games. From 1936-

56, Abbott coached track and field, winning 25 of the 36 national AAU Championships in which his Tigers teams participated.

The SIAC’s renowned history extends to the hardwood, as two of the first four blacks selected to play in the NBA were from the conference. Some of the former stars, who have enjoyed success in the NBA include: Florida A&M’s Nate “Sweetwater” Clifton and Clemon Johnson, in addition to the Jones brothers – Caldwell, Charles, Major and Wilbert of Albany State. The late Ed Adams was a member of the 1934 Tuskegee squad that won the inaugural SIAC basketball tournament championship. Adams would later became a coach, spending 23 seasons lead-ing Tuskegee to 645 wins, posting an .811 winning percentage while becoming the first black basketball coach to win 500 games. Former Temple University head coach John Chaney began his basketball career at Bethune-Cookman, where he scored more than 3,500 points and led the Wildcats to an SIAC Championship in the late 1950’s. Long-time Fort Valley State women’s basketball head coach Lonnie Bartley became the all-time winningest black college women’s basketball coach in 2012 after 28 seasons at the helm. Both Chaney and Bartley are 2014 SIAC Hall of Fame inductees.

The SIAC has also made significant footprints on a global scale in track and field. In 1948, Alice Coachman became the first black woman to win a gold medal as she captured the gold in the high jump at the London Games. At the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, Tuskegee graduate Barbara Jacket, was an Olympic coach with the track and field team. In 1996, Benedict College graduate Dr. Leroy T. Walker became the first African-American appointed President of the United States Olympic committee. Other Olympic notables are: Catherine Hardy of Fort Valley State (1st place in the 400 meter relay in 1952); Mildred McDaniel of Tuskegee (1st place in the high jump in 1956); Bob Hayes of Florida A&M (1st place in the 100 meter dash in 1964); Jearl Miles-Clark of Alabama A&M (1st Place 4x400 meter in 1996 and 2000), Dannette Young (1st place in the 400 meter relay in 1998) and Edwin Moses of Morehouse (1st place in the 400 meter hurdles in 1976 and 1984) who went 10 years without a loss in hurdle competition.

One of the greatest tennis players of All-Time, Althea Gibson of Florida A&M, competed in the SIAC. In 1957, Gibson became the first black to win a singles title at Wimbledon and is now a member of the National Tennis Hall of Fame.

The conference has also achieved a level of success in baseball, which includes a World Series MVP. Donn Clendenon, an alumnus of Morehouse, was named the MVP of the 1969 World Series as a member of the New York Mets. Florida A&M’s Andre Dawson, formerly of the Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs, became the first player from the conference inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Both Clendenon and Dawson are 2014 SIAC Hall of Fame inductees. Others making history in baseball include Bill Lucas, another alumni of Florida A&M, who became MLB’s first black general manager with the Atlanta Braves in 1978 after his playing career.

The SIAC concluded a banner year in 1993 as member institutions competed for NCAA Division II Championships in eight different sports. Albany State made its first trip to the playoffs after posting an 11-0 season; Alabama A&M’s women’s outdoor track and field team won their second consecutive National Championship, while their men’s outdoor team finished 10th in the nation; A&M’s men’s and women’s indoor track and field team both finished in the top five in the country while their cross country team won the southeastern regional title and finished eighth at nationals; A&M’s men’s and women’s basketball squads each made the playoff appearances.

The SIAC is also home to both the longest running rivalry and the winningest team in black college football. Morehouse and Tuskegee have met 106 times since their inaugural contest in 1902. Tuskegee’s football program has recorded more than 650 victories – first among Histor-ically Black Colleges and Universities. All SIAC member institutions have a rich athletic history. They rely heavily on past leadership to help them face today’s challenges as they continue their quest to excel in collegiate athletics.

Quacy Timmons begins her first year at Tuskegee University as the women’s basketball coach. She joins the staff on May 4, 2015. Timmons comes to Tuskegee following a successful three-year stint at Peach Belt Conference foe, Columbus State University where she helped lead the Lady Cougars to a 68-21 record during that span.

In her three seasons at Columbus State, she helped coach on All-America, two All-Re-gion selections and six All-Peach Belt Conference players. She also helped coach a Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. In her final season as an assistant at Columbus State, Timmons helped lead the Cougars to a 31-2 record and a national ranking as high as third in country; along with the Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament championship. Prior to Columbus State, Timmons spent six seasons at Eastern Illinois, competing in the Ohio Valley Conference. During her time with the Panthers, the team posted 116 victories and a regular season OVC championship in 2009-10. The team also won 84 games from 2007 to 2011, the most by any Eastern Illinois team in a four-year period since the school transitioned to NCAA Division I. During her stint with Eastern Illinois, Timmons coached 16 all-conference selections, as well as three Freshman of the Year award winners and two Defensive Player of the Year winners. Prior to her stop at Eastern Illinois, Timmons spent a year at Austin Peay and two years at her alma mater, Indiana from 2003 to 2005. Timmons played for the Hoosiers from 1994 until 1998, earning two All-Big 10 honors. She still holds the school record for blocked shots in a career (269), and at the time of her departure, was among the leaders in points, field goal percentage, free throws and rebounds. After her collegiate playing days, Timmons became the first player in Indiana history to be selected in the WNBA Draft when the Sacramento Monarchs selected her in 1998. From 1998 until 2002, Timmons played for three franchises, while also playing overseas. Timmons earned her Bachelor Degree in Kinesiology from Indiana in 1998. Timmons is married to Desmond Timmons, and the couple has three childen – T.J., Taryn and Taylor.

Courtney Pritchett begins his first year as an assistant coach at Tuskegee University.

Pritchett comes to Tuskegee after spending two years at Darton State College as an assistant coach and the facilities manager.

Pritchett spent the better part of eight years in Union Springs coaching high school girls basketball in Class 4A of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), as well as serving as the lead administrator for the department.

Last season with Pritchett on the staff, Darton finished 28-5 falling in the GCAA Re-gional Tournament championship game. During the year, the team reeled off winning streaks of seven games to start the season and nine to end the season. They finished 16-2 in the conference, outscoring their opponents by an average of 20 points per game in conference play.

During his time at Darton, Pritchett assisted with recruiting as the coordinator. During that time, Darton landed signed some of the top junior college classes in the state of Georgia. Pritchett was also responsible for the strength and conditioning program for the program, and served as an academic coach for the student-athletes.

Pritchett received his Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy from Alabama State University in 2005, and his Masters in Special Education (Secondary Level) in 2009. He is currently working toward his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
