Tutor Trainer Certification
Step-‐by-‐Step to Becoming a Tutor Trainer
Step 1: Documen7ng ATP Membership
• Submit a copy of your membership cer7ficate.
• If you are joining at the same 7me that you are applying for cer7fica7on, just make a copy of the membership form and the check for membership.
Step 2: Documen7ng 40 Hours of Tutor Training
Conducted
• Proof may be established by: – Agendas of trainings conducted – Outline of topics and list of trainings – CRLA cer7fica7on of training program with the dates of trainings conducted under this cer7fica7on for the past three years
– Other proof (aPach explana7on to applica7on form or email with applica7on materials)
Step 3: Gather the appropriate lePers of recommenda7on
• You will need two lePers of recommenda7on: – The lePers can be from anyone who can recommend you to be a good tutor.
– We recommend asking your direct supervisor for one lePer.
– Another person to recommend you would be an ATP mentor
– Another op7on could be a lePer from a colleague.
Step 4: Documen7ng 75 hours of tutor experience
• First note that this is documen7ng tutor experience or individualized learning assistance
• Proof may be: (any ONE of these will work) – Copies of Time Sheets – A summary of contact forms – LePer from supervisor verifying tutor experience – Resume showing full 7me status as a tutor/tutor administrator
– Other (aPach explana7on to applica7on form or email with applica7on materials)
Step 5: Documen7ng 5 CEU’s in the past three years
• If you have par7cipated in any ATP conference or online workshop in the past three years, you received a CEU cer7ficate. You can make a copy and include in your packet.
• CRLA, NCLCA, and NADE concurrent sessions that deal with tutoring can earn you CEU’s. Just send in the program with the sessions that you aPended marked. We will determine how many CEU’s have been earned based on content and length of session.
Step 5: Documen7ng 5 CEU’s in the past three years, cont.
• APending the LSCHE Winter Ins7tute will count for your 5 CEU’s. Send in documenta7on (program book or cer7ficate of aPendance) to show you aPended this ins7tute.
• Comple7ng the Kellogg Ins7tute. Send proof of comple7on for your CEU’s.
• College classes or other qualifying experience will count. Please send a copy of the transcript to document this.
• Other ways you think would count should be documented and an explana7on of why you think you should receive CEU’s should be on the back of the applica7on form. You may also contact the Cer7fica7on Chair with any ques7ons about documenta7on.

• Complete the online applica7on form, providing a “permanent” mailing address.
• APach applica7on materials to online applica7on form.

Cer7fica7on Period
• Each level of cer7fica7on is valid for 3 years • Within this 7me period, you may move up to the next cer7fica7on level by comple7ng the requirements
• When you change levels, a new three-‐year period begins
Frequently Asked Ques7ons
• Do I have to start with the lowest level and move up? – No, you should apply for cer7fica7on at the highest level you are qualified for.
– You also do not have to wait for the three year cer7fica7on cycle to end before advancing to the next level. As soon as you are qualified for the next level, you should apply for that level. Your three year cer7fica7on will begin again with each new level.
