Slide 3 Shaft pins Shaft pins are components of shafts which are immovably fixed to the machine frame or they facilitate shaft rotation. Types of shaft pins Basic division of shaft pins is in their loading. According to the loading direction, shaft pins divide into 2 groups: a)Radial pins. b) Axial pins. Pins further divides in accordance with their functions and shapes into these basic groups. Slide 4 SHAFT RADIAL PINS Radial shaft pins are mostly stressed by vertical force to pin axis. Some radial pins are able to transmit partially loading in direction of its own axis. - Cylindrical. - Frontal used at shaft end - Neck used for overhanging shaft ends or for shaft fitting to more supports - Conical absorb smaller axial loading in one direction. -Ball-shaped used for small pressures and small speeds, enable tilting in 3 axis. Types of radial pins: Frontal Cylindrical neck Conical Ball- shap ed Slide 5 RADIAL SHAFT PINS CALCULATION Radial shaft pin is strained to bending and to compression. There are used common strength equations for the calculation. Bending: Compression : Slide 6 AXIAL SHAFT PINS Axial shaft pins intercept forces having some effect in pin axis direction. Some types are able to transmit lower radial loading. Types of axial pins: - Base. - cylindrical - conical - ball-shaped - Ring-shaped. - Ridge-shaped. Cylindrical Conical Ball- shaped Ring- shaped Ridge- shaped Slide 7 AXIAL SHAFT PINS CALCULATION Axial shaft pins are strained to bending of axial pressure and to compression. Bending stress of axial forces is insignificant therefore calculation is limited to check contact surface force. Force on contact surface: Slide 8 Stroje a zazen I, J. Doleek, P. Gajdo, V. What are shaft pins used to. How are radial shaft pins stressed.
