Note: Depending on the security settings of your internet browser and/or of your pri-vate firewall the execution of ASP, Active X and other scripts could be disallo-wed so that neither a correct display nor logging into the server were possible. If this is your case, read further on which settings should be made. (On Win98 IE 6.x and the .NET module from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com should be downloaded and installed.)

Note: Type in your domain and account name exactly as shown (ADM\Firstna-me.Lastname, or EDU\Firstname.Lastname). You may decide to use full functionality or Light (reduced functionality with Text-Mails only). If you work on a Computer which can be used by anybody, the option public or shared computer could be left. This will end your session after a certain time-out for security reasons. As soon as you resume work, you will be asked to log in again, which can disturb your work particularly if you write long mails. You could choo-se the option private computer in any case to avoid a time-out. Do not leave your computer during work and do not foget to log out and close the internet browser after you are done.

Note: If you work with Firefox and leave the option public or shared computer, you may loose your mail text after a time-out because the login window will replace the window containing the mail text. To prevent data loss you could copy the mail text to the clipboard before clicking the send button. In such a case Internet Explorer pops up a new window and the window with your mail text gets only minimized. After logging in again, you can maximize it selecting it from the task bar. If you write long mails often, you could edit the texts in a text editor or text processor and save them before logging into webmail and sending the mails. To avoid this sort of problems, consider also using other mail clients and protocols, e.g. IMAP or Outlook-Exchange over VPN.

Note: After logging into Outlook Web Access you are asked for your preferred language and regional time zone.

Figure 2: The mails in the inbox are displayed. If you would like to read the mails in a horizontal pane, click on the according menu icon right of New. Choose the layout that fits your needs. The window you can see here, has roughly 4 are-as. These are going round clockwise: a pane with the list of mails, below the list is the text pane, in the left lower corner you can find some buttons und above the buttons you can see the folders in their hierarchy.

Figure 3: If you would like to change the preferred language later on, this could be done in Options/Regional Settings. However, the default objects names can not be changed automatically. For the moment, this can only be done with Outlook-Exchange and not with OWA (Outlook Web Access).

Figure 4: The graphical User Interface was designed to be very near to the one offered by Outlook-Exchange. As even most of it’s functionality has been implemen-ted, you have to orientate yourself for a moment. Almost every icon can be clicked on to invoke an action. You may position the mouse pointer over every icon to get tooltip texts with explanations or click on drop-down menus to see the possible actions.

Figure 7: Clicking on the buttons To..., CC... and BCC..., will allow you to search di-rectly in the global address book.

Figure 8: Start searching in the global address book by typing in a name and clicking on the icon with the magnifying glass.

Figure 10: You may use also the icon with the little book or the search field on it’s right side to search in the global address book, eg. for distribution lists.

Figure 11: In the next example we searched for all distribution lists. With a click on the right mouse button and selecting New Message, the entry can be selected as recipient of the mail.

Note: All distribution lists of the FHNW start with an underscore character (_) and the prefix D (for Distribution List), in both display and alias name, to let them ap-pear alphabetically before any persons. After the prefix there is an infix to mark the domain and the University, eg. _A17_ (ADM domain, HSA) or _E19_ (EDU domain, HSW) and to finish up follows the name of the distribution list (eg. _D_A12_Dozierende, _D_E19_Studierende, etc.)

Note: The resulting list may be very long. Try to narrow your search typing in longer search keys, eg. _D_A, or _D_A12_, instead of only _D_

Figure 12: Choose New/Appointment or Meeting Request, to write a request.

Figure 14: Add as much persons as you need for your meeting and send the request with click on the Send button.

Note: On the horizontal line the availability of the persons is displayed. The first at-tendee did not grant Standard-Read rights for everybody to his calendar data or the name could not be found, so that the free-busy times can not be displayed. The third person has already appointments marked with blue bars.

Note: The access rights to the calendar data con only be set with Outlook/Exchange.

Note: Unfortunately the mass of SPAM mails is so huge, that we can only help you to transfer the automatically into a subfolder of your inbox. You should revise them periodically and delete them. The SPAM-Rule can only be imported with Out-look/Exchange. You will find a howto here:

http://www.intranet.fhso.ch/ibg/anleitungen/software/mail/outlook/spamFilter

Note: In Exchange 2007 the possibility to create own rules was left away. The same applies for access to calendars of other persons (but it is possible using the shown Appointment or Meeting Request). In the following we show the steps to define an own rule with Exchange 2003, which will be available in a further version of Exchange 2007.

Figure 15: As an alternative to the rule that can only be imported/defined with Outlook/Exchange, you can define an own rule in Outlook Web Access for Exchange 2003. Create a folder first in which the SPAM mails will be moved automa-tically. Right click on your inbox folder and choose Create New Folder.

Type in the following URL into you browser address field: https://webmail.fhnw.ch/owa/hans-anna.muster/Kalender, respectively https://webmail.stu-dents.fhnw.ch/owa/hans-anna.muster/Kalender (or /Calendar, if the person works with an english user interface). Replace the name of the person as shown here:

Note: If you work on webmail.fhnw.ch and want to access a calendar from web-mail.students.fhnw.ch (or vice-versa), you may be asked to log in again. Simply use your ADM or EDU account.

Figure 21: Do not forget to log off clicking in the according menu.

Note: In the most recent Internet-Explorer versions you can set different security le-vels. Using a firewall from Norton or other software producers can prevent the execution of script code or parameter passing. In order to function properly,
