Tutoring, Mentoring and Best Practices Used by Mobile Collegiate Tutorial Service
The following practice strategies based on the research of Gordon and Lauer are used by Mobile Collegiate Tutorial Service:
•Tutors are trained on effective instructional strategies.•Diagnostic/developmental templates are used to organize tutoring for each individual student.•Formal and informal assessments are used to guide the tutoring process.•Student progress is tracked by tutors to adjust content /strategies to improve tutoring sessions.•Tutors collaborate closely with students’ classroom teacher to maximize effectiveness.•Tutoring is structured around principles of learning and follow a systematic approach.•Students are tutored by the same tutor for a minimum of 12 weeks.
