•THE CAPITAL OF TUVALU

•Tuvalu is a group of nine (9) low line coral atolls scattered along the Pacific Ocean.

•Population of approximately 10,000 people.

RAIN AND THE POEPLE

•Unfortunately Tuvalu don’t have any mountains & rivers, the only & main source of water consumption is ‘Rain water’.

WHERE THE WATER PROBLEM IS

•Funafuti the capital caters a population of about 5,000 plus.

•Water shortage problems is highly experienced in the capital.

Land area•The total land area of the Funafuti atoll is only 270 hectares (ha) or 2.7 km2 .•The main settlement at Fogafaleoccupies approximately half of this area (142 ha).

Population•For present purposes, the current population of Funafuti is estimated to be 5,000.

RAIN WATER

•The water supply for Fogafale is based almost entirely on rainwater collection and storage. •There is very limited use of groundwater. •Rainwater is collected from the roofs and stored,

• either above-ground tanks made of a variety of materials and• in-ground cisterns made from concrete and concrete blocks.

•Rainwater collection and storage systems at houses and other buildings are the responsibility of each owner. •When storages systems either run low or dry, water can be obtained from the government (through PWD) or community owned cisterns.

CLIMATE & WATERClimate•Bad weather normally occur in between the end of the years from November to early the following year to March. •During this period of times, it rains most of the days.•Apart from those days, it’s normally dry with some slight shores

WATER, POPULATION & THE PROBLEMS AT HAND

Population•The high number of people living on the island (Fogafale) is one of the reasons of water shortage.

•For example, some house whole have more than too much members in the family that a 5,000 gallon tank can cater, eventually this family will run out of water in a short period of time.
