of Blending Rum Blending is an art form and Master Blender Joy Spence – the first woman in the world to be appointed to the role – uses many different types and styles of rum to ensure the quality and the consistency of everyone of Appleton Estate’s rums.

As a woman in a traditionally male dominated industry, Joy is nothing short of a pioneer. At a very young age, Joy fell in love with the field of Chemistry and dreamed of working in a field where she could bring that passion to life.

Joy has been combining the Art and Science of Rum Making to craft premium Appleton Estate Jamaican Rum for 25 years. You must be a sen-sory expert and have a good understanding of the chemistry process. The development of a rum blend is a combination of art and science.

You first identify the style of rum you want and then look at the stocks of rum available while

bearing in mind their chemistry profiles and how they’ll react when they’re blended together. Then, you decide on the best artistic combina-tion of the blends.

Everyone should give premium aged rum a try! The higher end variants in the Appleton Estate range such as Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 Year Old and Appleton Estate 21 Year Old Ja-maica Rum are beautifully rich, complex sip-ping rums that are comparable to the world’s finest cognacs and whiskies.
