• Follow / Unfollow
• Followers / Following
• Two types of Tweeps
• Tweeps to Follow
• Twitter Etiquette
• Twitter Strategy
• “@” sign = Twitter name handle used for a “mention”
• “#” sign = Used for trending topics, a twitter chat, to gain attention in a group of similar people with the intention to gain new followers
• DM* = Direct message. “Private message”. Only the person you use the “@” sign with will see this message
*Format of writing a DM= “d (space) @...”
• How to “Follow” = Click the small widget next to person’s name
• The “Follow” button can be found:
- On a person’s Twitter page
- By clicking on follow when on someone
else’s Followers/Following list
- Other Websites
• How to “Unfollow” = Click small widget next to person’s name and turn it from blue back to white
• Unfollowed tweep will not know they have been unfollowed unless looking at your twitter page and “Follows you” no longer appears on their Twitter banner
• List of people who you are following and who your followers are
• You can see these lists on other tweepspages if they do not have a locked account
• You always want to try to have more followers than those you follow
• If you're unable to follow more accounts, you've probably hit a follow limit
• Twitter has imposed reasonable limits to help prevent system strain and to limit abuse
• Every account can follow 2,000 users total
• Once you’ve followed 2,000 users, there are limits to number of additional users you can follow
• This number is different for each account and is based on your ratio of followers to following
• Ratio is not published
• Any account with a blue verified badge
• Used to establish authenticity of identities on Twitter
• Celebrities, public figures, large companies
• Probability of getting followback is smaller
• Retweet (RT) = When a tweep resends
a tweet that interests them to their followers.
• Modified Tweet (MT) = When someone Retweets and edits the tweet before sending
PASSIVE:•- Uses the egg instead of a profile picture
•- Does not have a header photo
•- Little information in the bio (no city listed, etc.)
•- When followed does not followback
•- Tweets few links, pictures, and content
•- Few RTs and MTs
•- Inactive: Goes days without sending out tweets
•- Does not ask others questions.
•- Noone misses them when they leave the “party”.
ACTIVE:- Has a profile photo (Found in settings, profile)
- Has a header photo (Found in settings, profile)
- Has a full bio (Found in settings, profile; professional
• headline from Linkedin)
- Follows back
- Shares others’ content and their own content
- RTs and MTs
- Asks “did you know” type questions in tweets

• Thank for RTs, Follows, FAVS
• Thank Tweeps for follow and followbacks
• Don’t mention more than 1 tweep in a tweet
• Don’t DM unless necessary
• Don’t ask for work
• Keep it positive
• Have fun and enjoy!
• The most powerful Twitter Strategy is a 2-prong approach which uses Twitter and Linkedin.
- So, what does this look like??
• Only connects with people you know on Linkedin.
• Uses Twitter to follow people you don’t know and have them follow you back.
• Moves a twitter follower over to being a connection on Linkedin. (Does this only after you know the Tweep).
• Remember the person to get the next job is the one who stands out from the pack. They are the “clock changer”.
• Think of trying to get someone to follow you on Twitter as a sale. You are the product.
- Assume the sale:
-Thank a tweep for following you back after
you follow them, even if they haven’t
followed you back yet.
• Keep number of followers less than following with www.tweepi.com
• Follow people back, even when you don’t know them, or speak a different language
• Engage others in conversations by asking questions
• Use Hootsuite to schedule tweets www.hootsuite.com
• Join in #ff #tgif on Fridays
• Join Twitter chats and talk about what is trending in your tweets to draw attention to yourself.
• Tweet out both conversations and content
• Some content should be original
- Photographs and blogs are engaging
- Blogs show you are a specialist in your
industry
