Cardinal Vincent Nichols spoke last Sunday on the BBC Radio 4 Mass from Westminster Cathedral about Catholic Churches opening up on Monday for private prayer. He is the Head of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. The Bishops of England and Wales are one Conference – they make decisions which apply to all the dioceses. But there is a different civil authority in England (Westminster) than the one in Wales (Cardiff) and these civil authorities are differing about how to deal with the easing of the lockdown. England is “opening up” quicker than Wales. Whether this should be so is a matter of debate. But Cardinal Nichols’ statement was inaccurate: the Churches in Wales were not opened last Monday because it was not yet deemed safe by the civil authorities. The Welsh First Minister is to make a statement about latest developments this Friday 19 th June.We await his words. Our Churches on Anglesey will open for private prayer only when it is deemed safe to do so. Fr. Frank Murray OMI (Tel: 01407 762457) [email protected] Fr. Be present to those in need in these difficult times, especially the poorest and most vulnerable. Help us to show creative solidarity as we confront the consequences of the global pandemic. Make us courageous in embracing the changes required to seek the common good. Now more than ever, may we all feel interconnected and interdependent. Enable us to succeed in listening and responding to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor. May their current sufferings become the birth pangs of a more fraternal and sustainable world. We pray through Christ our Lord, under the loving gaze of Mary Help of Christians. Amen. GRATITUDE FROM A TREARDDUR BAY FAMILY On behalf of all in the Becton Family, Kathleen and Willy wish to express their profound thanks for the many expressions of sympathy received, and the comfort they drew from them, during the recent sad loss of their son John.
