A note for you:
Sometimes you see this figure: What does it mean? This figure was used by Christians in ancient times to identify themselves as followers of Jesus. At first it was a secret sign used during times of persecution. The figure in the form of a fish represents Jesus. The letters are ancient Greek. Greek was a common language used by people of the countries of southern Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa in order to communicate even though their own language were different. These letters form the Greek word which means a “fish.” Christians used each letter of this word to indicate who Jesus is. The “I” is the first letter of the name “Jesus” in Greek. The “X” is the first letter of the Greek word “Christ.” The next letter “θ” is the first letter of the Greek word “God.” The letter “Y” is the first letter of the Greek word “Son.” The last letter “Σ” is the first letter of the Greek word “Savior.” Together these words say: “Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior.” This an-cient figure is used even today to remind us of whom we Christians are called to follow: Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior.
We are inviting all ministries, staff, and school community of St. John’s to a Civic Academy Presentation on Tuesday, August 16th at 7:00 PM in the Church to discuss the “Give Them Food Campaign.” Our politicians, police officers, fire department, and surrounding business owners will be present to discuss what SPICE does and what measures need to be taken to confront this problem. This presentation will be the SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING for our volunteers and parish and school staff.
