Thank you for your continued generous support.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION

The spirit of wisdom, as we discover in today's first reading, comes to those who pray for her. Wisdom, like the word of God, carries a message of consola-tion as well as of great challenge. The Letter to the Hebrews tells us that the word of God, infused with the wisdom of God, is "sharper than any two-edged sword." We cannot shrink from the wisdom of God, or from the word that has the power to penetrate our hearts and minds. Jesus, the living word of God, the embodiment of wisdom, has strong, deeply penetrat-ing words for the rich young man who comes to him seeking answers to his most profound questions. Just when the young man thought he had done enough to fulfill God's commands, more was asked of him. This is no less true for us.

2018 Illinois Student Tax Credit Informational Meeting:

Explaining How This Benefits YOU and St. Alexander School

Tuesday, October 23rd

7:00 pm in the Computer Room

By filing the Illinois Student Tax Credit you can make a deduction that benefits both your personal return while earmarking this credit for St. Alexan-der School, which then benefits families in need of financial assistance to attend our school.

Benefit to the contributor: If a taxpayer contributes $1,000 to the Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO), the taxpayer will receive a $750 tax credit.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Request approval to make the income tax credit prior to making your contribution. Applica-tions must be requested online through MyTax Illi-nois.

Step 2: Once your application has been submitted, and the Department confirms that credits are avail-able, the Department will issue you a Contribution Authorization Certificate (CAC). The CAC will be issued electronically to your MyTax Illinois account within three business days of approval of your ap-plication.

Step 3: Make your contribution to the Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) within 60 days after issuance of the CAC. You must provide a copy of the CAC to the SGO. Within 30 days of receiving your contribution, the SGO will issue you a Certifi-cate of Receipt (COR) through your MyTax Illinois account.

This information is also on our church website at stalexanderpalos.org. You may also call Paula Somers at 708-448-4861 with any questions.

This year St. Alexander is offering RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) classes to any person who is interested in learning more about the Catholic faith from an adult perspective. The classes will be held on Sunday mornings immediately following the 9:00 a.m. Mass in the school’s teacher’s lounge. The sessions usually last about an hour to an hour and a quarter. All materials will be provided and there is no cost to participate. If you are interested in joining for adult education you are invited to come every week or as often as your schedule allows.

In order to have sufficient class materials, please call the parish office at 708-448-4861 and let them know that you will be attending. Please consider joining us as often as possible.

Subject matter to be covered in October:

October 14th: Who Is Jesus? Here we will explore the human and divine person of Jesus in depth.

October 21st: How to Read and Understand the Bible. In this session we will learn how to navigate the Bible and different methods for interpreting the Scripture.

October 28th: What Does It Mean to Be Church? Here we will learn that while we are individuals we are also part of something called the Communion of Saints and how we are called to be a community of faithful believers.

Club meeting/luncheon kicking

off our new ministry.

If you’re interested in being a part of

this ministry, further information

will be in future bulletins and on

our church website.

Many of you may take advantage of the convenience of electronic giving to our parish and we are grateful for that. We be-lieve it is time to upgrade to a more streamlined online provider for our eGiv-ing needs through Faith Direct. For those of you who have yet to join us in giving online, we strongly encourage you to do so. Here’s why:

Faith Direct enables parishioners to make your Church contributions through either direct debit from your checking/savings account or through your credit/debit card. No more writing checks or searching for envelopes on the way out the door. Now you can apply the convenience of direct debit to your parish offerings in much the same way as you may now use it to make your mortgage, car or tuition payments. Personalized offertory cards are offered to replace your envelopes for the collection basket.

Please join me in enrolling by responding to the mailing you received or visit www.faithdirect.net to enroll securely online. Our parish code is IL910.
