Dear Parishioners,

Today we welcome Cody Armock, who is a first year pre-theologian at Mundelein Seminary and is studying to be a priest for the Diocese of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Cody has already been in college for four years, has earned a bachelor’s degree, and has decided to dedicate his life to the service of God through the priesthood. Let us make sure that we are generous in our second collection today for the support of our seminary system. If you know of anyone, whether it be in your family, neighborhood, or social communities who you think would make a good priest please encourage them to pray and to contact me. As your pastor, I will be more than happy to encourage this vocation and instruct them of the different programs in the Archdiocese of Chicago. It is never too early to encourage a vocation, the Archdiocese of Chicago has a program for those who are freshman in high school and much older. Please encourage vocations so our church will continue to thrive and endure.

Next weekend is Homecoming for our parish football teams. For well over a month our teams have been playing their hearts out and putting out a great effort. Pregame festivities will begin at 1:30pm with our games against Our Lady of the Ridge, immediately following the National Anthem. Coach Hardiman will be available for autographs for a few minutes after the Varsity game. Food will be available and our Annual Knights of Columbus Soccer Kick Challenge will take place.

I thank all those parishioners and people who participated in our parish golf outing. Whether you golfed, sponsored a hole, donated an item, gave a donation, or prayed for our event, it was a great suc-cess. Many people were pleased and had fun golfing, whether they golf once a year or once a week.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS We are currently accepting registrations for the St. Alexander RCIA program. This program is for those who are not Catholic but are considering joining our Church. In addition, anyone who was Baptized but did not complete the Sacraments of Initiation (First Communion and/or Confirmation) is invited to come and complete their Sacraments. This program is also open to anyone who is interested in learning more about the Catholic faith.

Classes will begin in late September and the process is completed at the Easter Vigil. Classes meet on Sunday morn-ing from 10:00am until 11:30am. There is no fee; all materials are provided by St. Alexander.

Geared For Young People Celebrated Sunday’s at 6:00 pm

All St. Alexander Parish teens, School and Religious Education Program students are invited to join the Life Teen Group. Following mass we move to our meeting room for what is known as Life Night. Here we share food, movies, games, stories, and fun. It is a great chance to keep up with old friends and make new friends as well. It doesn’t cost anything to join and you can come whenever it suits you. Please plan to join us soon and be sure to bring your friends!

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION

The message found in today's readings is an oft-told story. Citizen Kane, Daddy Warbucks, and King Midas are only a few of the familiar fictional charac-ters who thought enormous wealth could buy happi-ness and fulfillment. Daddy Warbucks admitted stepping on a few people in his climb to the top. Kane tried to buy the printed word and stardom for his young wife, while King Midas conjured immense wealth and tragedy by his very touch.

We learn clearly in today's readings that none of this is really possible. True happiness comes from caring for someone other than ourselves. It comes from the pursuit of the virtues Paul described to Timothy: faith, love, gentleness, godliness, righteousness, and endurance. The Gospel reminds us that we dare not ignore the needs of others, acting as though we don't notice their suffering. God's call to us is much too clear to disregard for even one more day.

became a parish priest in Paris. St. Vincent founded the “Congregation of the Mission” to help with the formation of priests and provide help to the poor. Notice of Open Registration — Registration Forms are now available in the Church Narthex and gym hallway along with drop boxes for completed forms and payment. All information regarding both sports offered are on the forms.

Final Registration ~ St. Alexander Gym MONDAY, OCTOBER 3RD, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Sport Coordinators will be present to accept registration forms, have sample uniforms for sizing and to answer any questions you may have. Registration will be considered closed as of 10/3/2016.

Eligibility Policy: to be eligible to register for indoor winter sports,

(i) The family of the player must be in “good standing” in the Parish, and (ii), your child must be

one of the following:

a. St. Al’s registered student for Fall 2016

b. Religious Education student for Fall 2016 St. Al’s RE program who previously participated (or

has or had a sibling who previously participated) on a St. Al’s football, soccer, basketball or

volleyball team prior to June 30th, 2014.

c. If a player is an RE student and plays either volleyball or basketball for their interscholastic

public school team, regardless of that sports season, they are ineligible to play for St. Alexander.

Time for Twos Program Time for Twos is a program that is ideal for the two year old toddler who is pre-paring to enter preschool next year. This is an introductory class for Mom and toddler and encourages development through learning and play. Your child will experience music movement, large and fine motor activities, snack and social development.

The class consists of four week sessions on Tuesdays in

October from 9:15-10:15am. The dates are Oct. 4, 11, 18 & 25.
