Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time September 10, 2017
4 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, People of Our Lady, Mother of the Church Parish, “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” – says Jesus in today’s gospel reading. This is the foundation of Christian gatherings – liturgical gath-erings, social gatherings, and working sessions like Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) meetings. Members of the PPC are the voice of the parish community, and I would say they are also the eyes of the community – to have a vision, to make plans, to respond to needs of the community in this place, and at this time. Council members help the pastor by studying, reflecting, and rec-ommending their conclusions. Parish Pastoral Councils were started by Vatican II, with the doc-ument “Decree on the Pastoral Office of Bishops in the Church,” Christus Dominus, issued on October 28, 1965. The document defined councils in terms of the threefold mission – investigat-ing, reflecting, and recommending conclusions.
The Parish Pastoral Council at OLMC was established in the early eighties of the twentieth century. More details about the beginnings of the first PPC at our parish can be obtained from long-time parishioner, Don Perry, who was involved in that process. Since then many individuals have been in-volved in the work of the council. Today, we ask for the blessing of the present council members:
Sandra Wilson (chairperson) Marie Noel Ron Tabert Chris Szymanski Jillian Shuttleworth Pat Peterson Paul Vega Gail Henderson Christopher Tolomeo Barbara Annoreno (staff representative)
We thank all of them for their dedication, for their time, and talents, their reflections and planning. Tomorrow, on September 11th, we pray at the 8:30 a.m. Mass for people dedicated to public service: fire fighters, police-man, all the first responders; for victims of 9/11, and their families; for the peace and justice in the world. In 12 days – Oktoberfest at OLMC. Don’t miss beautiful live music, beer, bratwurst, tasty pretzels, and many more at-tractions. Details in this bulletin; tickets on sale in the narthex, and in the rectory office. September 30 – Anointing Mass. Not only sick are invited, also those who are willing to pray for the sick. We know that many times illness separates us from regular activity, if you know those who are sick, let them know about our Anoint-ing Mass concluded with lunch. All are invited, we just need to know how many are coming to prepare accurately. May God bless you, Fr. Andrew

Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement
We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...
