Twinkling Flurries Quilt VI pattern by Eye of the Beholder was first published in Fons & Porter’s Holidays Magazine December 2016. It has 12- 8” Reverse Appliqué Snowflake blocks (5 of Snowflake A and 7 of Snowflake B) set with pieced blocks. Pattern includes full-sized pattern pieces, directions for hand and machine reverse appliqué, pieced blocks and quilt assembly.

SUPPLY LIST: Supply List below is to make 1 – 8” x 8” Snowflake A

(Total yardage for Twinkling Flurries Quilt is in the pattern) Twinkling Flurries Quilt VI pattern 9” x 9” square of light batik for top* 9” x 9” square of medium-dark batik for background* Threads for machine stitching (SAME COLORS as top fabrics) + bobbins to match 5 safety pins or straight pins for pin basting Mechanical pencil for tracing pattern onto paper side of fusible 1 pair small, sharp scissors Sewing machine that has a zig-zag stitch (remember your power cord and foot pedal or knee lift) Open toed Sewing Machine foot strongly recommended New, sharp 70 or 80 sewing machine needle (bring extras) Iron, ironing board/ surface Stabilizer: Your block will need to be stabilized. Instructor uses and sells Terial Magic spray-on stabilizer. You may use a light – medium weight wash away or tear away stabilizer if you prefer. 1 – 8” x 8” square; 1 – 8” x 11” rectangle

*Test your fabrics together. Your light top batik will be layered on top of your medium-dark background batik. When selecting fabrics lay the light batik on the background batik and see if the color is affected and if you still like them together. Practice piece: We will practice our machine satin stitching on an 8” x 11” piece, provided by instructor. Instructor will have Terial Magic for students to try on the practice piece. Read through the pattern paying special attention to the directions for Machine Reverse Applique (page 4),

imagining yourself making the pattern.

Then read again following the directions for the sections on Fabric Selection and Preparation, beginning on page 1, Cutting,

if you are making the whole quilt, and then on page 4 under Machine Reverse Applique, Pattern Marking, steps 1

and 2.

A word about thread: Although I usually use a thread color that matches my top batik, you may want to use an accent color as a design choice. I use an assortment of threads for my machine reverse applique: Aurifil 40 wt., 50 wt.; Konfetti 40 wt.; Wonderfil 60 wt.; Floriani embroidery; Sulky; etc. It’s all a matter of the look you want and what your sewing machine can handle. In my original Twinkling Flurries Quilt VI I used Floriani Embroidery thread for the machine reverse applique and the quilting.

1 – background batik square cut to 9” x 9”

1 – 8” x 8” square Soft Fuse or other double-sided, paper-backed iron-on fusible with Snowflake A traced on the paper side

1 Spool of thread for stitching (SAME COLOR as top batik), plus bobbins with matching thread

1 pair small, sharp scissors

Terial Magic or stabilizer of your choice ( 1 – 8” x 8” square; 1 – 8” x 11” rectangle)
