"Two kinds" is a story written by Amy Tan. This story is basically about theexpectations parents have for their children and the children's rebellious and

bitter attitude towards both their parents and the expectations. In this story, a

Chinese mother wants her daughter to be prodigious.

She does all sorts of tests on her daughter Jing-Mei to figure out what sort of

special talent she possesses. The daughter feels resentment towards her

mother. She believes that her mother is trying to turn her into a person she is

not and does everything to rebel against her mother.

When her mother decided that her special talent was playing the piano, Jing-

Mei never practiced and instead, planned on embarrassing her mother by

playing badly in church and putting an end to her pride. Jing-Mei realizes that

she wants to follow her own path.

SUMMARY

perfection.

This story tell about the struggle of mothers attempt to

mold her daughter into a child prodigy.

She is a rebellious child thatt caught between two cultures which is

the Chinese culture and the American culture. Jing-Mei resists her mothers attempts at discipline and resents the

pressures of high achievement that usually the immigrant parents

palce on her children.

Jing-Mei know and also understand that her mother is using her to

win a talent show competition with her friend. Lindo Jong. She also was stubborn when she refusing to practice the piano and

rebellieous to her mother.

He does not attend the recital and in fact the narrator cant tell if he is

horrified or silently amused at her performance.

At Jing-Mei disastrous recital he is the only one who cheers

enthusiastically

and ambition by their own hands and not shackle them with

parental ambition.

Everyone has their own advantages and people should notunderestimated or excluded other person.

Do not ever constitute a children for personal gain but help to

shape them to become useful to each other someday.
