2017 INSTRUCTORS

Director, choreographer, dancer, writer and teacher, Andrea Palmer has spent over 30 years study-ing and performing dance. Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, her pursuit of excellence has led her to some of the finest institutions in the world including: The National Ballet School of Canada, The Alvin Ailey School of American Dance, and the Jose Limon Institute in New York City. Her credits include performances for both television and film, choreography for the Grand Opening of Montreal's “Thea-tre National”, Artistic Direction and choreography for Flexx 2001- an annual summer dance festival in Montreal which attracted some 3500 spectators, a tour of United Nations Army bases in Bosnia / Her-zegovina, as well as performances with Mikhail Baryshnikov and the White Oak Dance Project during the Festival International de Nouvelle Danse (2001). Her unique and dynamic approach to the teaching of dance has made her a sought after guest teacher at summer dance programs across Canada. Several of her former students are now enjoying professional careers in dance. A member of the Professional Adjudicators Alliance, Andrea has served as adjudicator for The Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival 2014, The B.C. Annual Dance Competition 2015, The American Dance Awards Canadian Tour, D-Force, Shine and Terpsichore Dance Festivals, to name a few. She has performed and shared her passion for dance across Canada, The United States and Europe. In 2006 Andrea was honored to give master class-es in Saint Petersburg, Russia and in England thanks to a grant from The Canada Council of the Arts. From 2007-2010 she continued to share her passion for dance in NORWAY as director of the jazz dance program for the Orsta Volda Balletskule. She has since returned to Montreal where she continues to inspire a new generation of dancers. She is a member of the International Council of Dance based in Paris, France. Andrea is currently completing a Master’s Degree in Dance Education at the Université du Québec à Montréal. (UQAM) Andrea was invited to teach jazz for the professional division of L'École supérieure de ballet du Québec in September 2015.

ANDREA PALMERSeniors Dance Instructor

Karen has been involved in many aspects of theatre production over the years; producer, director, choreographer and costume designer (Centaur Theatre). She has directed and choreographed count-less musicals and plays with a multitude of organisations (Lakeshore Players, Way Out West Choral and Theatrical Society, Lyric Theatre Singers, Hudson Music Club, Copa Di Oro Productions, Hudson Village Theatre, Gardenview School etc). A retired Police Constable with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Karen has been the Chorma Musika Camp stage director for 7 out of 10 of our productions.

KAREN PEARCEStage Director

Shelley Talbot, teacher, dancer and was born in Calgary, Alberta where she studied Jazz, Ballet and Gymnastics competitively, before acceptance into Alberta Ballet Schools Professional training program. Later she was accepted and studied in a number of professional training programs across both Canada and the United States. At 19, she auditioned for the London Studio Center, London England and trained in the Classical tier of their professional program. She was selected to perform self-choreographed work for London Studios annual show. After this she travelled Europe and later returned to audition with com-panies in Germany and Austria. Upon returning to Canada she has worked and danced with a number of companies and choreographers including: The Cirque du Soleil, Ballet Ouest de Montreal , Productions Premiere Choix, Debra Brown and Elijah Brown. She has taught at a number of locations and schools since 2005, some include: Les Grandes Ballets, Ballet Ouest de Montreal, Le Conservatoire de Danse de Montreal, and Mcgill University. She has choreographed for: Cirque Zerna, Mekka, Universite de Mon-treal, Studio 303 and Productions Plumeria. Between 2006 and 2007 in she performed full-time with Flamenco X-Caret in Mexico, with shows including Broadway, Jazz, Contemporary, Latin and Folkloric. In 2008 she preformed for 2 months an Aerial trapeze Tropicana in Atlantic City, with Productions Premiere Choix’s family Christmas show. She completed her yoga teacher training at the Salt Spring Centre in 2007. 1 Shelley now shares her love of dance teaching throughout Montreal and performs as a free lance artist.

SHELLEY TALBOTJuniors Instructor

A professional actress for twenty-five years, Susan’s career has taken her from Montreal, to To-ronto, to Vancouver and back to the amazing Montreal. She’s worked in theatre (Segal Centre’s “Sci-entific Americans”), film (“Source Code”) and television (“Look Again” - TV movie, and remember “The X Files”?) and is now moving into the world of directing and teaching. She stage managed / co-directed three Christmas Pantomimes in Hudson and recently directed a short pantomime for the Centaur’s “Children Series”. She teaches two weekly drama classes to children during the win-ter, each of which presents a play at the end of the year. She’s found that the most rewarding part of teaching and directing children is when she sees them smiling and enjoying themselves as they learn. She is very excited about working more closely with Dimitris and Maria this summer in their astounding Chroma Musika!

SUSAN BAINStage Director

Born in Montreal, soprano Maria Diamantis holds a degree in Voice Performance from McGill University where she studied with Lucile Evans and coached with Dr. Robert Evans. Participating in Master Classes, Maria had the opportunity to sing for soprano Sena Jurinac and Canadian contralto Maureen Forrester. Her other studies have included summer programs with the University of Miami in Salzburg, Austria and at the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria. Maria has appeared in various solo performances with numerous renowned symphonic orchestras.

Tenor Dimitris Ilias, also born in Montreal, and educated both in Canada and Greece, holds a Bach-elor in voiceperformance and a graduate Diploma in Advanced Music Performance Studies from Concordia University for which he received an award from the Hellenic Board of Trade. He has suc-cessfully interpreted many operatic and operetta roles while as a soloist he has sung with numer-ous orchestras and ensembles in Canada, Greece, and the US. Dimitris Ilias is a full member of the Federation professionnelle des journalistes du Quebec (FPJQ) and has been an announcer and music producer for CFMB 1280 AM Radio Montreal.

Hailed as “big names of the Hellenic community of Montreal” by the Journal de Montreal Maria Diamantis and Dimitris Ilias were awarded the Medaille de l’ Assemblee Nationale du Quebec, the NEPMCC award for Culture & Living Arts by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario David C. Onley and the DEKA 2010 award. They have an extensive discography which includes 5 CDs and 7 children’s musicals in collaboration with top Greek and Canadian labels and publishing houses working along-side actors like Terry Jones (Monty Python), Guy Nadon and Governor General Award winning au-thors and illustrators.

Via their music organizations Chroma Musika and Panarmonia Atelier Musical, Maria and Dimitris, organize a plethora of concerts, seminars and recordings.

For many years they have developed a specialized vocal workshop for children leading them to positions as the musical directors of 3 Socrates, 4 EMSB and one SWLSB Choirs. Through their Chil-dren’s book/CDs operatic productions they have exposed thousands of children from over 60 ethnic backgrounds to symphonic music while giving unique opportunities to those young choristers to sing with renowned Montreal symphonic orchestras and learn how professional CDs are recorded in venues like Oscar Peterson Concert Hall and Eglise St-Jean Baptiste to name a few.

They are full members of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and have been invited to give seminars in Canada and Greece. In 2010 they were chosen by the Greek Embassy in Washing-ton DC to represent Greece at the Euro Kids Festival creating a musical interactive adventure com-memorating the 2500 years since the Battle of Marathon. Their most recent production “The Golden Touch” was chosen among 192 applicants to be part of the Laval 50year celebrations.

In 2007 Maria Diamantis pioneered the Annual Voice Camp. Our 2 week intensive performance camp focuses in exposing, through games and improvisation,children to the main disciplines of Music Theatre and stage production like Vocal Training, Acting, Dance, Studio Recording, Ensembles, Musical Activities, Masterclasses, Fitness for Singers and Stage Make-up. Our camp has a broadway musical as a theme each year and at the end, the campers put on a 20 minute fully staged, fully costumed mini-version of our chosen musical.

• Montreal Camp will be held at the: Hellenic Community Centre 5757 Wilderton Avenue, Montreal, Que., H3S 2V7 • Laval Camp will be held at: Laval Junior Academy, 2323 Boulevard Daniel-Johnson, Laval, QC H7T 1H8• All participants must bring their own lunch. Refreshments will be provided by Chroma Musika • Participants must dress comfortably • For ages 7 to 16 • Completed forms can be submitted by e-mail or printed and sent by mail. Payment must be received before June 1st 2017
