Upon successful completion of this course, the attendee will understand the treatment planning process for implant-supported rehabilitation in the posterior maxilla. Both surgical and prosthetic treatment planning and execution will be described by Dr. Sayed, a dual trained Periodontist and Prosthodontist. This lecture will focus on development and execution of complex treatment plans involving sinus augmentation prior to and at the time of implant placement. Both the crestal and lateral sinus lift approaches will be discussed and cases will be shown illustrating when each technique is recommended. This lecture will focus on the importance of having a full understanding of relevant anatomy and treatment planning protocols to achieve optimum results and understanding how to diagnose and treat complications following sinus surgery.

Upon completion of this program participants will understand:

• Anatomical considerations when restoring in the posterior maxilla• Differences between the crestal and lateral window approach to and when to use

each technique• Sinus lift infection control protocol• Diagnosis and treatment of post-operative complications • What types of cases require ENT referral and clearance prior to surgery

Additionally Dr. Weiner will be sharing her knowledge regarding the current state of genetic testing in dentistry. Participants should leave the course understanding basic genetic concepts and where the testing industry is to date in regards to quantifying risk for periodontal risk profiles.

At the conclusion of the seminar, participants will understand:• Basic genetic concepts including the difference between

Mendelian and Complex diseases• How chronic periodontitis is a complex disease with several

hundred or thousands of genes contributing toward relative risk• The current state of genetic testing in dentistry and the risks of using current tests on the

market on their patients

Abbey Sayed, DDS, MS, started his dental career at Columbia University in New York, obtaining his doctorate and general practice residency degrees. His love of complex treatment planning took him to London where he obtained a Master’s degree in prosthodontics and worked on some of the most extensive full mouth rehabilitation cases in the United Kingdom. Family ties brought Dr. Sayed back stateside, where he completed an advanced fellowship in implantology at Brookdale University Hospital in New York. To further diversify his surgical

skills, Dr. Sayed earned a specialty certificate in periodontology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and since then, has limited his practice to periodontics and implantology. He is a board certified periodontist, a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, and on the faculty at University of Michigan. To date he has placed over 6,000 dental implants.
