Digital Badge Systems 11. Look at Digital Media and Learning site for their workaround badges and design - Carla Casilli has been looking at badge system designfor a while - Erin Knight provides leadership to the open badgesteam and also has many interesting insights into badgesystems design - 12. Issuer The issuer creates the badge, figures out what skills andknowledge are represented by thebadge, figures out how to assess (orprove) if a person has the skillsand knowledge to earn the badge. The issuer has a lot of heavy liftingto do, this is because determiningif someone has mastered the skillsand knowledge and are deservingof a badge requires work andshould be rigorous if the badge isgoing to hold value. 13. Earner The earner is anyone who wants toearn a badge. And they are willing tofocus their energy and make an effortto acquire the skills and knowledgethat demonstrates their masteryrepresented by the badge. Badges are everywhere, and areparticularly present in our youth. Girl Scouts can earn badges, Students in sailing school can earnbadges, Swimmers can earn badges. It is these badge systems where peopleprove skills, knowledge and ability andfrom this they earn badges. 14. Displayer The displayer provides theability to display badges. Thiscould be a social media site likefacebook or it could be yourown personal wordpress blog. The displayer will retrievebadges from an earnersstorage and display them for allto see. The groupings and permissionsaround the display of badgeswill be determined by thepreferences of the earner. 15. issuers displayers 16. 17. Open source is a great thing 18. 19. Whats Next? 20.
