The bladetension can be checked by pushing sideways on theblade midway between the two wheels. When thetension is correct the blade should move slightlyfrom side to side with firm finger pressure.NOTE: Do not overtighten the blade. Too muchtension may cause blade breakage. Too little tensionmay cause the blade to slip on the wheels.Removing the blade is the reverse of theaformentioned procedure.

TRACKING THE BLADENOTE: The blade tension must be correctly adjustedbefore tracking the blade.1. Slowly turn the upper wheel ✺✌ Fig.23.

clockwise by hand and watch the blade on thetyre. If the blade does not stay central on the tyrethe tracking will have to be adjusted.

2. To adjust the tracking, turn the trackingadjustment knob ✻✌ on the rear of the sawbehind the upper wheel. Fig.24.

3a. If the blade moves towards the rear cover (awayfrom the front of the saw) turn the adjustmentknob anticlockwise while turning the wheelslowly by hand until the blade centres correctlyon the tyre.

3b. If the blade moves away from the rear cover(towards the front cover) turn the adjustmentknob clockwise while turning the wheel slowlyby hand until the blade centres correctly on thetyre.

4. Now check the position of the blade on the otherwheel tyre, the whole width of the blade shouldbe on the tyre. If it is not re-adjust the trackinguntil the blade is on both tyres.

5. Before switching ‘ON’ rotate the upper wheel byhand in a clockwise direction for a few turns.Check that the blade stays in position on thetyres. Re-adjust the tracking if necessary.

6. Position the blade guard and secure using thetwo blade guard mounting screws, see Fig.25.

7. Close the front cover and tighten the two lockingknobs.

8. Re-fit the table alignment screw, washer andwing nut to the table.

ADJUSTING THE BLADE GUIDES AND BACK UPBEARINGNOTE: The upper and lower blade guides and backup bearings support the bandsaw blade duringcutting operations. The guides and bearings shouldbe checked and adjusted whenever a different bladeis fitted.

1. The upper back up bearing ✾✌ Fig.29. should beadjusted first. Loosen the hexagon set screw ✿✌located to the side of the bearing.

2. Adjust the back up bearing to within 1.5mm (1⁄32")of the blade and tighten the hexagon set screw. Now repeat this exercise for the lower bladeguide assembly.NOTE: The back up bearing supports the backedge of the blade during a cutting operation. Theblade should NOT be in contact with thebearings when you stop cutting.

3. Next adjust the position of the upper blade guidesupport ❀✌ Fig.30. Loosen set screw ❁✌ andslide the blade guide support along until thefront edge of the blade guides are 1.5mm ( 1⁄32")behind the gullet of the blade. Tighten the setscrew.

4. Repeat this exercise for the lower blade guide.IMPORTANT: The blade will be damaged if theblade teeth hit the blade guides whilst thebandsaw is operating. Correct adjustment of theupper and lower blade guards will prevent thisfrom happening.

Loosen the two hexagon screws ❂✌ Fig. 31. that lockthe upper blade guides ❃✌ and press both guidesgently against the sides of the blade. Do not pinch theblade. USE OF ACCESSORIESMITRE GUIDEMost cross cut work, especially with small pieces ofmaterial are more easily controlled with the use ofthe mitre guide. The mitre guide is also used foraccurate mitre and compound cuts. The guide isgraduated to 45˚ for assistance in cutting both leftand right hand angles. Fig.32.

RIP FENCETrue straight line rip cutting is best done by guidingthe work against the rip fence. The fence can also beused for cutting off exact widths. Fig.33.

WARNING: The supporting surface where the bandsaw is mounted, should be examined carefully aftermounting to ensure that there is no movement duringuse. If any tipping or walking is noted, secure theworkbench or supporting surface before operatingbandsaw.

MOUNTING BANDSAW TO WORKBENCHIf the bandsaw is to be used in a permanent location,it should be fastened securely to a firm supportingsurface such as a workbench. If mounting to a workbench, holes should be drilledthrough the supporting surface of the workbenchusing dimensions illustrated. Fig.34.1.Each leg should be bolted down securely using10mm diameter machine bolts, lockwashers and10mm hex. nuts (not included). Bolt length should be45mm plus the thickness of the bench top.2.Locate and mark the holes where the bandsaw is tobe mounted.3.Drill four 12mm diameter holes through theworkbench.4.Place the bandsaw on the workbench aligning theholes in the feet with the holes drilled in theworkbench.5.Insert all four 10mm bolts and tighten.NOTE: All bolts should be inserted from the top.Install the washers and nuts from the underside of thebench.

CLAMPING BANDSAW TO WORKBENCHThe bandsaw can be clamped to a workbench usingtwo (2) or more "C" clamps on base of unit. Fig.35.

TIPS ON USING YOUR BANDSAW

For all cutting operations the upper bladeguard should be adjusted to just clear thework being cut (approx. 3mm or 1⁄8"). Notonly does this provide the best operatorsafety, but it also brings the blade guidescloser to the work giving more accurateresults and easier control.Use both hands to feed the workpiece intothe blade. The work must be held flat onthe table at all times to prevent binding ofthe blade. Use a steady even pressure justsufficient to keep the blade cutting at fullspeed.Always use a rip fence or mitre guidewhere possible to eliminate any sidewaysslip of the work. This is most importantwhen the table is tilted to an angle.Always plan work ahead. The tradesmans’rule is “measure twice, cut once”. It is bestto finish a cut in one continuous operation, but frequently backtracking will benecessary. Turn off the motor and allow theblade to come to a complete stop beforebacking the blade out of the cut.Remember that the blade removesmaterial during the cut. This gap createdby the blade is called the kerf and must beallowed for when cutting to exact sizes.Plan your cut so that the kerf is to the scrapside of the line you wish to cut. Ifnecessary, allow a little more for finishsanding.

RIP SAWINGThis term refers to the cutting of timberwith the grain rather than at a right angleto the grain. You can rip wood freehand toa previously drawn line, but best resultsare obtained by using the rip fence. If thetable is level, set the rip fence to the lefthand side of the blade. This allows you touse your right hand to hold the work firmlyagainst the fence. The width of cutindicator on the front of the worktableshows the distance between the blade andthe right hand edge of the timber.

When cutting a bevel rip, with the tabletilted at any angle up to 45˚, set the ripfence to the right hand side of the blade ifthe width of the workpiece allows it.With the fence on the downhill side of thetable it will help support the work againstslip. The width of cut indicator shows thedistance between the blade and the ripfence at the table surface.

CROSS CUTTINGThis term refers to the cutting of timber atright angles to the grain. This type of cutcan also be made freehand but the mitreguide is used to ensure accurate results. The mitre guide can be adjusted to a 45˚angle to assist during mitre cuts, and withcompound mitre cuts.Make sure the work is held firmly againstthe table and against the face of the mitreguide. Be careful to keep your fingersaway from the blade, particularly at theend of the cut.

FREEHAND SAWINGThe ease with which many different andvaried shapes can be cut is one of themost important features of the bandsaw.Select a blade suitable for cutting thesmallest radius in the work you haveplanned. When freehand cutting always feed thework slowly so that the blade can followthe line you wish to saw. Make sure not todrag the work off line forcing the bladesideways, or twisting it.In many cases, it is helpful to rough cutabout 6mm away from the line in difficultcurves and corners. In the case of verysharp curves which may be too tight forthe blade, make relief cuts onto the face ofthe curve so that these scraps will fall asthe final radius is sawn.

MAINTENANCECHANGING TYRES

Eventually the rubber tyres on the bandsaw wheels will wear due to the constant contactof the sharp teeth of the blade. Remove the blade, lift the edge of the tyre with a smallscrewdriver and the tyre can be worked off the wheel easily. We recommend that the twotyres be changed at the same time. (See Spare Parts Listing/Drawing). Refit blade

BLADE GUIDES

Blade guides should be inspected regularly for wear or chipping. When replacing guidesreplace all guides at the same time, both upper and lower. (See Spare PartsListing/Drawing).

BEARINGS

All bearings used in the construction of your bandsaw and its motor are sealed andlubricated for life.

CLEAN OUT

Accumulated dust and chips should be removed from inside the bandsaw frequently.Remove the front cover and use a brush or vacuum cleaner. At the end of every worksession clean sawdust away from the motor vents.

BLADE BRUSH

Ensure that you check on a regular basis that the brush is in full contact with the bandsawblade and wheel. This will help to keep the tyres on the wheel clean and assist with thequick and smooth run down of the bandsaw blade.

NOTE: Bandsaw blade should stop within 10 seconds of the machine being switched off asper original set up.
