The educational paradigm has shifted. Students no longer look at higher education only as a means to complete their professional credentials. Instead, lifelong learning provides what they find missing in their continuing journey to satisfy personal and professional goals.

Students used to wonder, “What will I do once I finish my education?” Today, our large and growing population of non-traditional students often asks: “How will an education improve my ability to perform better in my current job?” Traditional students may ask, “Can I fit work around my classes?” In comparison, the non-traditional students more likely wonder how they will fit school around their existing schedules – crowded with work and care for home and family, which often includes children and aging parents.

Are you looking for specific answers, tailored to meet your personal needs as well as the needs of the corporation you serve? TWU has developed a multi-faceted educational program offering a personalized delivery format, which meets the requirements for a more individualized and specialized education.

Maybe you would choose a high-tech, long-distance learning environment, which totally eliminates the need for an on-campus experience. Perhaps you would prefer blended classes that combine high-tech teaching and personal interaction with a professor at one of our five campuses (see page 11).

The Executive MBA, for example, consists of 51% online class work with the remaining 49% spent in a classroom three Saturdays per course. If you are a high-achieving working professional with an undergraduate degree, you can attain the EMBA degree by completing this TWU graduate program in a fast-tracked 15 months.

TWU can also bring educational resources to your company. Many firms require continuing education and include it as part of their performance review system. If they don’t offer an in-house university, TWU can bring seminars and classes right to you. A popular option is a brown-bag lunch series that offers learning modules, customized to enhance your team’s skills. Whether you are a marketing pro, an HR executive, or the CEO, TWU can provide tailored content for you.

We are proud of the personalized delivery format we offer. We’re here to help you accomplish your educational goals and your professional dreams.

As a Team The consulting projects undertaken by the Small Business Management students included a business plan for an author of biblical comics, a marketing plan for a computer networks specialists firm, and a market demand estimate for a bridal weddings caterer. Students who worked on a business plan for a drafting service company won the third place in the 2010 Project of the Year competition in the undergraduate specialized category.

Alongside a Mentor For the first time, the Market Research class took on clients outside of the university. Students conducted two projects for Christian Community Action in Lewisville. For the research papers, a unique attempt was made to pair each research group with an adjunct faculty member who edited and sculpted the papers for publication. One of the many papers has been accepted for presentation at the 2011 Society for Marketing Advances (SMA) conference to be held in Memphis in November 2011. The paper, entitled “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall? Who is the Healthiest of Them All? An Empirical Study of Online Health Information Seeking Patterns,” was written by Melanie Zilles, Carlotta Hayes, Pushkala Raman, and Tina Landes.

In CompetitionRecently, ten TWU students, representing Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), helped Frilly’s Seafood Bayou Kitchen become an environmentally friendly restaurant. They spent five months analyzing the small business and then initiating green changes. TWU’s SIFE groups take on five small businesses each semester, helping them to improve their businesses and reduce costs. Each year, TWU’s SIFE students compete in the SIFE USA National Exposition. TWU’s teams have won five regional competitions in the last nine years and achieved first runner-up the other four years. On the JobQualified students can apply for Cooperative Education to complement their School of Management studies. U.S. firms as well as companies around the world offer internships—training that helps students move from the theoretical to the practical. They learn first-hand the dynamics and value of working with professional business associates for the common good toward a common goal.

You’re engrossed in the world of business management; you’re functioning. What difference would an education make? Consider what students and graduates have to say about the benefits of studying at Texas Woman’s University.

I have noticed substantial growth in my management abilities since attendingthe School of Management at Texas Woman’s University. Initially, I was asubmissive, lenient manager who tried to be everyone’s friend. I had nounderstanding of the business world and no skills to develop my banking career. As each semester at the School of Management progressed, my management andbusiness skills greatly increased. My knowledge of human resources and labor lawshelped me select better employees for hire.

My knowledge of ethics helped me to make better businessdecisions regarding ethical dilemmas. My knowledge of marketing and

consumer behavior helped me to develop my banking center’sprofitability through obtaining new clients and retaining existing customers.

Each class helped me gain an additional area of expertise at my bank.My supervisors noticed my progress over the years. My salary increases

became more substantial, and I was nominated for branch managerof the year and associate of the year.

I have learned so much while attending Texas Woman’s Universityand I feel like I have grown and matured. One of the greatest thingsabout Texas Woman’s is the college’s diversity. I learned a great dealabout different cultures and how they work in the business world. I started to wonder how naïve I was before working on my degree, but I am grateful I for the opportunity to educate myself.

I have used the communication skills learned in Business Communicationsto my advantage and contributed to my community. I visit middle and high

schools in my area several times each year and teach them the importance ofbanking and how to use a bank account. I never would have been able tocommunicate with these students without the knowledge I received from

the School of Management.

I feel confident in my education that I will bring a levelof competence to any company. I have learned patience, confidentiality, and approachability, which will help should anemployee ever approach me with an issue he/she mayhave with another employee. With this education, I will beable to command attention from co-workers and employeeswhile respecting them on a professional and personal level.

Hands down, TWU has made the greatest impact on my education.I have had an amazing experience and learned so much with the business

program at TWU. The professors have taught me to run with my ideasand have no fear. Not only am I receiving an education, but tools I can use

for the rest of my life to be successful in my career.

The professors in the business program are extremely dedicated teachers.During my time in the business program, I have learned so much thatwill carry on with me in the professional world. One of the biggestlessons I have learned from my professors in the business program is to be passionate about the task at hand.

To be an effective entrepreneur requires giving a lot offocus and devotion and enduring a lot of frustration. I have found this to be

my calling. Currently, I am on my second business. I love the process andexcitement of planning a new venture. Brainstorming new and distinctive

marketing ideas is challenging and exciting. I can’t imagine not working for myself. Possibly, without the classes I have taken for my degree I would not have

discovered my calling as an entrepreneur.

Education does not end with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or even a Doctorate degree. This world, our environment, and by extension the business environment, are all in a constant state of flux. Students must continue growing to meetthe challenges of tomorrow. We stand on the precipice of a future unknown. The technology we soon encounter will undoubtedly change us and our practices in ways we cannot fully foresee or predict. We must continue learning, continue adapting, and continue breaking new ground inbusiness and technology — in the words of Gene Roddenberry’sStar Trek, ‘…to boldly go where no man has gone before.’

After receiving my AA, I transferred courses to TWU and changed my major to HR Management. I became a SHRM member right

off the bat; the opportunities blew me away. Anyone can learn the basics of human resources in a classroom (or online for that matter). AtTWU the online class interactions have given me valuable contacts and

made me comfortable collaborating with high-level people.

The knowledge I’ve gained from TWU transformed me from an intimidated undergrad to a confident student leader in the workplace — something I would have never dreamed possible a few semesters back!

Last summer, I was offered an internship with a major telecommunications company recruiting for a new call center. My TWU experience was a major

contributor to landing that awesome internship because it gave me a huge leg-up on other applying undergrads with little experience in the HR field. First and foremost,

TWU taught me to THINK BIG and realize that most times our limitations are self-imposed. With one month left for my BBA, I’m amazed how much I’ve

learned and grown. I am so grateful for what this program has offered me. It gives students unmatched workforce experience and access to top professionals

in the HR field. The online classes and HR Management degree is truly a springboard for HR leaders. I don’t know where I’d be today if I wasn’t convinced

to transfer and attend TWU.

TWU ranked among the bestU.S. colleges for undergraduatesTexas Woman’s University is ranked among the best undergraduate institutions in the United States by Forbes Magazine.

Forbes’ annual ranking of America’s best public and private colleges focuses on “the things that matter most to students: quality of teaching, great career prospects, graduation rates and low levels of debt.”
