BackgroundThis consultation refers to the junction of Oakley Avenue and Lynton Road with Twyford Avenue. Discussions with ward councillors, local residents and the Creffield Road Residents Association have been carried out, along with feasibility investigations to identify cost effective solutions to improve the junction.
This scheme was previously consulted in April 2013. This is a re-consultation which has been distributed to a wider area in order to capture the views from residents of additional roads that could potentially be affected by the proposals.
Existing issuesIssues at this section of Twyford Avenue that have been identified include:
• High traffic speeds; • Poor crossing facilities; • Lack of visibility at junction for pedestrians; • Lack of signage and road markings to inform
motorists of 20mph zone; and • Controlled Parking bays too close to the junction.
ProposalsThe proposal involves reducing traffic speeds and improving crossing facilities for pedestrians. Features of the proposal include:
• New mini-roundabout at the junction of Oakley Avenue and Lynton Road with Twyford Avenue;
• New refuge island to warn vehicles of and to protect pedestrian crossing;
• New tactile paving at existing crossing points; • Kerb build out to narrow the road width on Lynton
Road;• New signage including 20mph and roundabout
giveway; and • Road markings include double yellow lines, 20mph
roundels and relocation of resident parking bays.
The benefits• Improved pedestrian crossing facilities and traffic
safety; and
• Reduced traffic speed and congestion.
Your viewsThe council would like to know your views in order to implement the right scheme along this section of Twyford Avenue. Please examine the plan attached and make your views known to us by filling in the enclosed questionnaire by 21 February 2014.
What happens nextThe responses to the questionnaire enclosed will be analysed and reported to ward members of your area. Taking into account the views of residents and businesses as expressed in this consultation, a decision will then be taken regarding implementation of the scheme.
