Inductive Voltage Transformers

Introduction

Trench is a recognized world leader in thedesign and manufacture of high voltageequipment for application on electric utility and high energy industrial systems. As part of Trench's product scope, theCompany produces a diversified range ofInstrument Transformers which are installed on 69-800 kV electrical systems.Instrument Transformers include: Voltage(Potential) Transformers (both inductiveand capacitive type), Current Transformersand Combined Instrument Transformers(voltage and current transformer in oneunit).

Voltage Transformers must convert trans-mission class voltages to standardizedlow and easily measurable values, whichwill be used for metering, protection andcontrol of the high voltage system. Assuch, the need for accurate and reliablevoltage transformation is essential.

This brochure will detail the features andcharacteristics of types VEOT and VEOSinductive type Voltage Transformers. Please refer to Trench brochure E210 foradditional general information concerninghigh voltage Instrument Transformers.

• highly refined and processedoil/paper insulation system

• low weight and minimum oil volume

• use of high quality mineral oil,PCB free, biological decomposi-tion

• excellent seismic performance as a consequence of optimizeddesigns of flanges, porcelain andtheir interconnection

• excellent control of internal andexternal insulation stressesthrough the use of a proprietaryfinely graded bushing system

• essentially unaffected by strayexternal magnetic fields

• hermetically sealed stainless steelmetallic bellows for units rated123 kV and above

• welded housings sealed withoutscrews

Features

• Meet all IEC and ANSI meteringand protection classes (other standards on request)

• Standard thermal burden ratings of 2000 - 2500 VA (higher on request)

• Quality Assurance in accordance with ISO 9001

• stable accuracy over a long periodof time

• perfect transient performance

• suitable for line discharging

• exclusive use of corrosion-resistantmaterials

• explosion resistant by - insulating system with high

reliability - fine graded bushing - weak point in the aluminium

head and tank castings and the metallic bellows serving aspressure release device

• successful field experience sincethe manufacture of the first volt-age transformer in 1926

• maintenance free during a longlife time of more than 30 years

• composite insulator available onrequest

Trench types VEOT and VEOS Inductive Voltage Transformers aredesigned and constructed with thewell proven, highly reliable, oil/paper insulation system. Eachporcelain housed, hermeticallysealed Voltage Transformer isequipped with stainless steel expansion bellows, calibrated to theinternal oil volume and extremes inambient operating temperatures.

For voltage classes up to 300 kV,the type VEOT is offered. For ap-plications above 300 kV, Trench offers the type VEOS design. TheVEOS is designed with a primarywinding which is located in themid-point of the structure. Thisfeature serves to reduce the dielec-tric stresses and ensures optimizedvoltage distributionwithin the trans-former. Please referto figure Fig. 3 forthe internalschematic diagramand mechanical details for both theVEOT and VEOSunits.
