Typhoon was founded 65 years ago by Oscar Gugen. After the second world war Oscar came to England and started up E.T Skinner and also a club for divers which became the British Sub Aqua Club, this grew to become the largest diving club in the world.

E.T Skinner was the first company in the UK to make wetsuits and became the market leaders in diving and sailing equipment. In the 1970’s the name was changed to Typhoon and a factory was built in Redcar where the company still operates today.

In 1976 Typhoon developed the first lightweight drysuit. In 1992 Typhoon designed a revolutionary new suit using Clotex a soft polyester trilaminate fabric alongside other breathable materials, which is now standard for most surface drysuits, making Typhoon suits the most comfortable yet toughest drysuits available.

Today Typhoon is the world’s largest manufacturer of drysuits and a key player in the diving and watersports markets with products specifically designed for all its key leisure markets: diving, sailing, surfing, kayaking, water skiing/boarding and other watersports. Where Typhoon does not have the capability to manufacture the products then leading brands are sourced and distributed into the UK and Europe such as Body Glove, Teksport and Sherwood.

Typhoon’s head office in Redcar provides a full after sales service which also includes repairs and servicing, we can also customise products to individual requirements such as made-to-measure drysuits or adding extras from pockets to custom zips and logos.

Typhoon’s reputation is based on quality, which is crucial when you are supplying lifesaving equipment. All of our drysuits and lifejackets are made to the highest standards and each one is pressure tested before despatch and it goes without saying that they are made to relevant CE and ISO9000 standards. Our track record of supplying military organisations and RNLI continuously for over 30 years shows the level of quality we produce and so we were the first to give our main products (drysuits,wetsuits and lifejackets) a three year warranty on workmanship.

Typhoon supply all the major military markets around the globe and also commercial customers such as the RNLI, British waterways, Environment Agency, major oil companies as well as recreational users in the diving and leisure markets. For the diver who is not prepared to compromise on performance. Used in various formats by both military and commercial divers around the world the Neo is our top of the range neoprene diving suit. Made from super high density 3mm neoprene which offers the best resistance to crush of any neoprene whist also being our most stretchy, the suit also features hand applied rubber tape inside. Designed for the diver who is after a high feature neoprene suitable to handle anything sports diving will throw at them. Made from 3mm compressed neoprene it is glued and blind stitched it also has internal liquid taping which ensures total dryness. This 3mm compressed neoprene provides a significant weight saving over a standard 5mm suit which improves the stretchability of the suit and reduces diver fatigue. Originally designed for the Paddlesports market the original Multisport carved out a huge following amongst people from a whole variety of different disciplines who are looking for a high performance, robust, back zip suit. We have now made more improvements to this suit. Firstly we have added a ladies version to the range, this is in answer to the ever increasing number of requests that we get for a dedicated high end ladies suit.
