Note from the President

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the Oktoberfest Bunko! I thought that we all looked great in our dirndls, and we should wear them more often, except that breathing becomes difficult. As for my lederhosen, they are a bit tight right now as well, due to the perennial problem of too much eating of the schnitzel. November, however, is time to garb yourself in your glad rags and shimmy on over to our “A Gatsby Affair” Basket and Silent Auction Evening. It is on November 14 – a Friday night – so bring your spouse for a date night or a friend who needs to get out of the house! We are going to have a bunch of great baskets from various organizations, just in time for Christmas shopping. We have a live Jazz ensemble and period cocktails, AND a cigar lounge for the men and some of the more daring flappers. Join us at your local speakeasy, the Patch Community Club, for an elegant evening out of the Jazz Age. Remember that you can reserve and pay online!! Don’t miss out, umtcha umtcha, da da da!

Also November is the month for our inaugural “Patch Thriftmas Market”

event! Save the dates, 20 -22 November and come by our Patch Thrift Shop

for a total Christmas shopping experience, replete with food and live

entertainment! Come see what our Thrift Shop Associates can do for you, and what we do for our

community! Remember to bring your SCSC membership card for a discount on purchase of donated

items. Maybe you would like to volunteer for this event? Just contact the SCSC Patch Thrift Shop via

Facebook or follow the link on our website for more info.

Ernest Hemingway, another writer from the Jazz Age, celebrates the idea of a place as “a moveable

feast”; in essence, a location that, even if you leave, will travel with you in memory and experience. He is

writing about Paris, of course, but I would like to think that Stuttgart as well can be a “moveable feast” by

making new friends and experiencing traveling throughout Germany, or maybe getting some girlfriends

together and going to Paris! Our club is here for that: getting out and meeting people. See Europe. Get

out and taste life.

Scholarships will be out earlier this year! Look for the applications sometime in November!

Toodlepip!

Hello friends! Thank you for your interest in ordering a custom fest table through the SCSC! We are very excited to be able to order the tables and have been working behind the scenes for quite a while to make this possible for our community!

We debuted the table plan and the design inspirations at our Oktoberfest Bunko event since it went so well with the theme. Realizing that the design was not yet finalized, we offered a discount at the event to those members who were will...ing to pre-order the table sight unseen. This also helps us have enough capital on hand to pay for the initial order of tables.

We are thrilled that so many people are interested in ordering our tables! Our fundraisers are held only during our events, though. The next opportunity to order our tables will be during the Patch Thriftmas Market to be held on November 20-22 (Thursday 3-7pm, Friday 10-7, and Saturday 10-7). Please allow our committee members time to ready for our next shopping opportunity.

Plan to attend the Patch Thriftmas Market to order….there will be fantastic shopping at the thrift store, food from a few private organizations, musical entertainment from some of our area schools, and LOTS of holiday cheer! We’d love to see you there, and look forward to taking your table orders at that time!

Thank you for your excitement, and we look forward to seeing you at the Patch Thriftmas Market! Keep an eye on our Facebook pages for more updates as the event gets closer!

Thank you for your continued support of the SCSC, and all your hard work in our community!

The Stuttgart Community Spouses’ Club Patch Thrift Shop will be decked

out with all its holiday finest for the first event of its kind on November 20-22. Along with

seasonal wares, shoppers can enjoy traditional food and beverages, and live

entertainment. Patch Thrift Shop’s hours are extended for this event:

Thursday, Nov 20, 3-7, Friday Nov. 21, 10-7, Saturday Nov 22, 10-7.

Volunteers are needed prior to the Grand Opening of Patch Thriftmas Market to decorate

and prepare the Thrift Shop. Additionally, Performing Arts groups interested in

entertaining during the event should sign-up using VolunteerSpot

link http://vols.pt/2QtRjh, also available on Facebook at “SCSC Patch Thrift Shop” or on

the Club’s website: www.StuttgartSpousesClub.org.

Holiday decor, lights, tabletop items, Christmas trees, seasonal clothing, and more will

be available at extraordinary savings. All Thrift Shop merchandise is generously donated

by members of our community in support of the philanthropic component of the

Stuttgart Community Spouses’ Club. Sales proceeds are then given back to our

community by way of scholarships and financial grants.

So come out and find a holiday goody or two, save some money,

enjoy a cup of kinder punch, and support your community!

Awesome Autumn with Special Interest Groups

Everyone enjoys day trips, some savor wine tasting with friends, others have fun playing Bunco, while nearly all of us may benefit from getting out on a good walk or

run with friends!!! Many of you have expressed interest in participating in these SCSC Special Interest Activities, but we still need someone to volunteer to coordinate these events. If interested in serving as the lead for Daytripping Divas,

Wine Tasting Club, Bunco, or Walk/Run Club, please email Kathy Argo at [email protected] to sign up. Additionally, if you are interested in

participating in any of the Special Interest Groups and have not had the opportunity to sign up, email Kathy as well. Don't forget to join

the SCSC Facebook page in order to receive up to date group information and invitations.

Book Club

Evites are out! Join us on Wednesday, November 12th to discuss Ian McEwan's The Children Act (and our spooky read, Susan Hill's The Mist in the Mirror). We'll have our

regular meeting at 11:00 am, and then our first evening meeting at 6:30pm. Since it's our first evening meeting, I decided to have them both at my place for lack

of confusion (mine, more than anyone's I'm sure). Please bring a dish to share--there is a poll attached to the Evite, so you can tell us what you plan to bring. Directions to my building on Patch are in the link on the Evites. If you have not received yours,

please let me know! Hope you can join us!

A Note From Membership: By now all members should be receiving newsletters and Evites, evidence that the system is working! But in this electronic age, it’s most important that we

have your email entered correctly. If you did not receive this newsletter directly from the club, or you hear any of your fellow members mention that

they are not receiving our electronic communications, please contact Membership at: [email protected] so your email address can be verified. We'd feel terrible if any of our members were in the dark and we not

even know it! Also, for those of you who were not able to pick up your membership card at either of the first two events, please look for it to arrive in

your postal mailbox soon. Tchüss!

The Welfare Committee invites all private

To find out more, or for an online application, please

visit www.stuttgartspousesclub.org/welfare or contact

Please note that Welfare grants must meet certain guidelines

to qualify. Directions for and rules concerning the

On 16 October the SCSC Trips and Tours went on a 5KM Castle Hike

with Bruce from Outdoor Rec. The weather held for us and it was a

beautiful day in the great outdoors. We started with a hike up to Burg

Hohengundelfingen.

Next up was Burg Niedergundelfingen a portion of which has been

renovated into a vacation home. Adjacent to the castle was a small chapel

with some beautiful treasures inside.

Thanks to the wonderful ladies that joined us for this outing and to Bruce

who was an outstanding guide. It was a great day!
