Master Data Management

The Identity and Access Management (IAM) program has raised several data challenges that impact the Integrated Reporting program:

Unclear System of Record and defined owners/stewards of master data (e.g. Student, Employees, Location, Assets, Vendors)

No proper governance organization - Lack of authority or responsibility to make master data decisions

Fragmented and inconsistent Systems of Record exists within UBC (e.g. several systems of record for identifying a person)

Significant resources are spent on finding, understanding, cleansing and reconciling data

Systems lack flexibility to handle growing data needs/requirements

“Master Data Management is a workflow-driven process in which business units and IT collaborate to harmonize, cleanse, publish and protect common information assets that must be shared across the enterprise. MDM ensures the consistency, accuracy, stewardship and accountability for the core information of the enterprise. " Gartner1
