The aim of the seventeenth annual CSHW Breakfast Seminar is to provide a forum for safety professionals to gather together, to receive current information from a leading expert on a topic of interest, to exchange ideas and information, and to keep in touch with colleagues, multidisciplinary professionals and with the Centre itself. The Venue Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel Housed in a mid-1700s estate that is now an Irish National Monument, the Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel is located on the N11 Stillorgan dual carriageway, the main route from Dublin city centre to the southern suburbs and the southeast of Ireland, offering easy access to Fosters Avenue and the M50. Free car parking is available at the hotel for 220 cars.

Health and Safety Breakfast Seminar

Who should attend?

This seminar is ideal for health and safety professionals who have completed the Diploma in Safety, Health and

Welfare at Work or equivalent. The contributors will assume knowledge, to Diploma level, of health and safety

legislation and of current health and safety management issues. The aim of the seventeenth annual CSHW

Breakfast Seminar is to provide a forum for safety professionals to gather together, to receive current information

from a leading expert on a topic of interest, to exchange ideas and information, and to keep in touch with

The Venue

Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel

Housed in a mid-1700s estate that is now an Irish National Monument, the

Johanna Hally Head of Legal Affairs with the Health and Safety Authority of Ireland

Johanna Hally is the Head of Legal Affairs with the Health and Safety Authority of Ireland which is a position she hasheld for the past seven years. Johanna was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 1988, having graduated from U.C.C.with a Bachelor of Civil Law degree. She is also admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales, and holds aMaster’s degree in International Human Rights Law awarded by U.C.G., in addition to further qualifications in EULaw, Property Tax, and Employment Law. Johanna practised as a solicitor in general private practice in Ireland for16 years before entering the Public Service. Since joining the Public Service, she has occupied positions in the LawDepartment of Dun Laoghaire – Rathdown County Council and within the Office of the Attorney General where shedrafted legislation before being appointed to her current role within the HSA.

Irish Safety and Health Legislation Update and Case Law

Raymond Byrne Director of Research, Law Reform Commission

Raymond has been Director of Research with the Law Reform Commission since 2003. He has also for many yearsbeen a member of the lecturing staff in law at Dublin City University. He has lectured widely to both the public sectorand private sector audiences on the legal aspects of occupational safety and health. He is the author of Safety,Health and Welfare at Work Law in Ireland, Second Edition, as well as the co-­author The Irish Legal System and ofthe Annual Review of Irish Law.

Good Practice Awards 2014-15

As part of its European Campaign for Safety and Health at Work, which for 2014/15 focuses on the theme of “HealthyWorkplaces Manage Stress”, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work makes Good Practice Awards tobusinesses and organisations that devise innovative, practical solutions to workplace safety and health problems.The closing date for this year’s Good Practice Awards is 12th September 2014. If your company is interested inentering the Good Practice Awards, please refer to the GPA guidelines and the selection procedures.

European Campaign 2014-15

This year’s European Safety Week takes place week beginning October 20th 2015.Workplace health and safety is good for business, for workers and for society as a whole. Every year more than5,000 people lose their lives in the EU as a result of accidents in the workplace according to Eurostat. A great manyof these lives could be saved and many thousands of other injuries prevented if risks were anticipated and sensiblesafety measures implemented.

The theme for 2014-­15 is "Healthy Workplaces Manage Stress".
