UCS Configuration  

Here are the UCS 6248 and UCSM configuration snapshots: 

Step 1 – Use the UCS 6248 console to specify GUI configuration method and management 

network settings. 

 

 

Step 2‐ Use web browser to access the UCS configuration from https://<6248 mgmt IP>

Step 3 – Specify network settings on the UCS. 

 

 

Step 4 – Specify the redundant UCS6248 settings.

Step 5 ‐ Refresh the browser to see the configuration status go from “Pending” to “In 

Progress” to “Success”. 

 

 

Step 6 ‐ Log in to the UCSM using web browser  after the  UCS 5108  chassis is connected to 

the fabric interconnects.  Go to the Fabric interconnects and under Fixed Module, click on the 

ports connected to fabric A  (under Unconfigured ports) and click “Configure as Server Port”.

Step 7 – Next, Acknowledge the chassis. 

 

 

Step 8 – Create a service profile template.

Step 9 ‐ Specify Service Template name. Pick "Updating Template" so it can be modified later 

(if needed). Pick the UUID pool name created in the Pool section later.

Step 10 ‐ Specify the Local Storage policy name. For "How would you like to configure SAN  

connectivity?" Select "Expert". For WWNN Assignment, Select the pool created earlier. Select

Step 11 – Specify the name of the first vHBA. Check the "Use SAN Connectivity Template". Pick 

"vHBA_FI‐A" when configuring the first HBA. Pick "vHBA_FI‐B" when configuring the second 

HBA. Set the "Adapter Policy" to "VMWare". Click "OK" to save HBA‐A. Repeat the process for 

HBA‐B. Click "OK" to save HBA‐B.

Step 12 – Specify the Dynamic vNIC Connection Policy as default (no dynamic vNIC policy). For 

"How would you like to configure LAN connectivity?" pick "Expert". Select Add to add an vNIC.

Step 13 – Specify the name of the first vNIC. Check the "Use LAN Connectivity Template". Pick 

"vNIC_FI‐A" when configuring the first NIC. Pick "vNIC_FI‐B" when configuring the second NIC. 

Set the "Adapter Policy" to "VMWare". Click "OK" to save NIC‐A. Repeat the same process for

Step 16 ‐ For "Server Assigment", use the default of "Assign Later“. Expand the "Firmware 

Management (BIOS, Disk Controller, Adapter)" selection. Select the Host Firmware and

Step 17 ‐ For "Operational Policies", use the default settings. Specify "BIOS Configuration"

Step 18 ‐ Go to the service template and select "Create Service Profile from Template".

Step 19 – Specify the Naming Prefix and Number for the service profiles. For example, with a 

Naming Prefix of S1B and a Number of 8, you will get 8 new Service Profiles called S1B1,

Step 20 ‐ Click on one of the Service Profiles. From the General Tab, pick "Unbind from the 

Template".  This will unbind it from the master template, retaining all the template settings

Step 21 – Select "Change Service Profile Association".

Step 22 ‐ Under "Server Assignment" pick "Select existing Server". You should see the server 

that should be linked to this profile.  Select the server and click "OK".  This will provision the 

server blade (ie. reboot it, set the RAID level, set the BIOS, upgrade firmware as needed).

Step 23 ‐ After the server reboots, the “Overall Status” should move to OK and you will see the 

template associations under Properties.
