communications, and strategic execution of

executives, executive teams, and entrepreneurs

Mitchell Simon co-wrote the book, "The Trusted

Advocate“. He is on staff at the Global Institute for

Leadership Development. He is also a keynote

speaker throughout the United States, and performs

live comedy in San Diego, California. Mitchell

graduated with a J.D., M.B.A. from the University of

California, Los Angeles and a B.A. in Economics

from the University of California, San Diego

Opening Keynote: Joe Edelman Midday Keynote: Ashvin Bachireddy

Mr. Edelman founded Perceptive Advisors, LLC in

1999. Previously, he was Senior Analyst at Aries

Fund, a Paramount Capital Asset Management

biotechnology hedge fund, from November 1994

through December 1998. Prior, Joe was Senior

Biotechnology Analyst at Prudential Securities for

four years. He started his career in the healthcare

sector of the securities industry as Biotechnology

Analyst at Labe, Simpson. Joe earned an M.B.A.

from New York University and a B.A., magna cum

laude, in psychology from the University of

California, San Diego

Perceptive Advisors:

o Founded in 1999, Perceptive Advisors is focused

on supporting the progress of the life sciences

industry by identifying opportunities and directing

financial resources to the most promising

technologies in healthcare

Mr. Ashvin Bachireddy is a Co-Founding Partner

and General Partner at Geodesic Capital. He was a

Partner and Head of Growth Stage Investing at

Andreessen Horowitz since 2010. He led growth

stage investing for Andreessen Horowitz. Mr.

Bachireddy was a Senior Associate at Lightspeed

Venture Partners. He joined Lightspeed in 2009 and

focused primarily on investments in the areas of

software applications. He began his career as an

Vincent is the Co-Founder and Chief

Technology Officer of Income&, which

specializes in fixed income

investments. Vincent has over 17

years of experience building fin-tech

enterprises with an emphasis on

systems. He built the world’s first web

trading system for Schwab.com and

launched first-of-their-kind tech

platforms including Copart Mobile,

Vingesh is an associate at Sierra

Ventures where he focuses on

August 2012

During his time at UCSD, Vignesh was

involved in a number of organizations

including the Undergraduate

Investment Society and the UCSD

Student Foundation Endowment Fund.

Tiffany Stone is the CEO and Co-

founder of Matter Ventures-backed

Menagerie. She has led the online and

offline growth of SOLS, helping

generate the first $50,000 in consumer

revenue, and has helped the world’s

largest 3D printer network, 3D Hubs,

accelerate platform adoption in the

U.S. Early in her career, she

performed business and intangible

asset valuations on companies across

a range of industries, as well as valued

the investment portfolios of private

equity and hedge funds

Tiffany continues to advise BrightEyes,

the organization she founded to

empower UCSD student

entrepreneurs. To date, 1 out of 3

BrightEyes Scholars have raised

capital for their startup and collectively

have raised around $2 million. She is

also an advisor to UCSD’s Basement

Accelerator

Alex Shin | Senior Consultant

John Nguyen is currently working as a PwC

management consultant in the M&A practice supporting

Fortune 500 and Private Equity clients in healthcare

including the pharmaceuticals and life sciences

industries. John previously worked at BD (formerly

CareFusion) as a senior financial analyst

John received his M.B.A degree from Marshall School of

Business at the University of Southern, California. John

earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of


Alex is a senior consultant at EY with focus on financial

industry in Los Angeles. Prior, Alex served as an

advisory analyst in EY in San Francisco

Alex was the Vice President of Internal of Undergraduate

Investment Society at University of California, San

Diego. He was also part of Undergraduate Accounting

Society and Korean American Student Association. John

Mark Nelson serves as the Regional Vice President for

National Government Affairs at Sempra Energy at San

Diego. He is a board member for the San Diego County

Taxpayers Association and St. Augustine High School

Meena Tafazzoli is a business analyst at ZS Associates.

Prior, she worked at Caliber Advisors as a valuation

analyst. Meena was a teaching assistant at Rady School

Ralph Ho | Chief Operating Officer

For over 20 years, Ralph Ho has had a very successful career as a finance executive. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Sequoia Capital, one of the Silicon Valley’s most prominent venture capital firms with over $10 billion assets under management. Prior to Sequoia Capital, he was the Chief Operating Officer for the hedge fund and investment management firm Clarium Capital Management. Previously, Mr. Ho served as Vice President of Finance and Treasurer of PayPal for three years and also as President of PayPal Asset Management for four years. He was also Vice President and Assistant Treasurer for Bank of America Securities for almost 5 years

Ralph is a CFA charter holder. He received his B.S. in Management Science from the University of California at San Diego.

Mr. Wyatt Wachtel serves as a Managing Director

of York Capital Management ("York"). Prior to

joining York, from June 2012 to January 2015,

Mr. Wachtel provided advisory services to York

through a consulting agreement via Solana

Capital Management, LLC, which he was the

Sole Member. He focuses on structured credit

investments, sub-performing mortgages, bank

loans and other distressed opportunities. Prior to

joining Solana Capital, he served as a Senior

Portfolio Analyst at Highland Capital

Management, specializing in distressed

investments and special situations. He also

served as a Senior Associate in Private Finance

at Allied Capital, and an Associate at Bank of

America Securities, and an Associate in the

Asset Securitization division of first Union

Securities. He has been Director of Rokwader

Inc., since 2015

Mr. Wachtel received a B.A. in Political Science

Sara Orr | Chief Financial Officer Deborah Bronston-Culp amassed a career spanning 25+ years on

Wall Street. She is a Managing Partner at Samothrace Partners as well as an MD and Co-head of Enterprise Technology at Golden Seeds. She invests in early-stage companies, serves on boards and mentors entrepreneurs. She was a Managing Director and Deputy Director of Equity Research at Morgan Stanley. Prior to that, Deborah led Equity Research at NatWest Securities (US). She spent 15 years at Prudential Securities where she managed and trained Equity Research analysts and was a top ranked consumer analyst for each of the 7 years she followed stocks

Deborah is a Trustee of UC, San Diego, a member of its investment committee and serves on the Economic Leadership Council at UCSD. She received a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, San Diego

Sara Orr is currently a Senior Vice President of Finance and the

CFO of Verizon wireline. With more than 20 years of

telecommunications and technology experience, she is focused on

financial and operational leadership across multiple business units

within the organization. She worked with a wide cross-section of

business units to conduct financial forecasting and strategy for

Verizon that allows for proper planning and management across

multiple disciplines

She received an M.B.A in Accounting from National University and a

B.A. in Applied Economics from the University of California, San

Diego

Wendy Kim | Senior Analyst

Wendy Kim is a Wealth Management Professional in the Investment

Management Division of Goldman Sachs & Co. She is responsible

for client relationship management and account maintenance.

Wendy earned a B.A. in the Study of Religion from the University of

California, San Diego. She also studied Ancient Mediterranean

Religions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before

beginning her career in the financial services industry. Prior to

joining Goldman Sachs, Wendy worked at Centerbridge Partners in

New York City. She is passionate about environmental causes and

is an avid golfer

Lauren Edgerton | Wells Fargo

Lauren is a senior associate at Wells Fargo Securities San Francisco office where she focuses on healthcare investment banking. Prior to joining Wells Fargo Securities, Lauren served as an associate director at UBS New York office for two years. Previously, Lauren was an associate and senior analyst at Paul Capital Partners. She also worked as an investment banking summer analyst within the public sector and infrastructure group at Goldman Sachs.

Lauren received her M.S. in Financial Engineering from The Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles. Lauren earned her B.A. in Mathematics from the University of California, San Diego

Victor Ng | Managing Director

Melody Jones is a founder and managing director at Strata-

Visory which provides mergers & acquisitions strategy and

advisory services to its clients. Prior, She worked as an

independent strategic & finance consultant reporting to C-

level executives and assisted Marin Software in preparing for

its IPO in March 2013. Melody previously served as a director

in the investment banking division for Robert W. Baird & Co.

Upon receiving her M.B.A degree from the Wharton Business

at the University of Pennsylvania, Melody worked as an

investment banking associate for J.P. Morgan’s Technology,

Media & telecommunications

Victor is a managing director at Goldman Sachs and has

been with the firm since 1995. He is a board member of

Global Association of Risk Professionals. Prior to joining

Goldman Sachs, he worked as an Economist for International

Monetary Fund. From 1989 to 1994, he served as an

assistant professor at the University of Michigan

Victor received his Ph.D. in Economics in from the University

of California, San Diego in 1989. He earned his B.A. in

Economics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong

David Cubeta | Associate

Dave Cubeta is currently an associate at RA Capital Advisors, a San Diego based boutique investment bank that specializes in mergers and acquisitions, private financings, shareholder matters, restructurings, and crisis situations for middle market and Fortune 500 companies. Prior to RA Capital Advisors, Dave was an associate for Cabrillo Advisors, another San Diego based firm that provides investment banking and other financial advisory services for the tech, life sciences and social media sectors. Dave began his career as at Pricewaterhouse Cooper as an auditor. He was also a professor in the accounting department at San Diego State University up until 2012
