The new program was initiated in January, and we need volunteers. Each deacon has been assigned at least one widow in the church to serve as their deacon. The Light Brigade Ministry would assist the deacon with help as needed. Each lady that commits to the ministry would be assigned a deacon and would be on call if the deacon had a special task for them to do. They would serve with a deacon for three months, then rotate to another deacon. This will allow each volunteer the opportunity to get to know the widows and work with the deacons. Linda Williamson will be the contact person for the Women’s Ministry, Light Brigade Ministry, and will coordinate with the deacons assigned to the Widow’s Ministry. Please pray about this and be open to God’s service. If you feel this is a ministry God would have you serve on, please contact Linda Williamson, 741-8400 or e-mail [email protected]. Keep Believing!Pastor Rob

STRESS … some people have it and some people give it! The question is, What do we do with it? Well, let me take a shot at helping you do just that. Here are a few things to consider in order to STRESS-LESS.Deal with it physically. I know you don’t want to hear it (read it) but exercising 20-30 minutes, three times a week, can help. Also, losing even 10 pounds (if you need to) may make you feel better. Stress causes us to find coping mechanisms … food seems to be an easy choice. Add to this more sleep (i.e., rest). Finally, find a way to intentionally relax each day. Stress shows up physically, so get physical with it!Deal with it emotionally. Let me list these:1. Learn to slow down. Seriously, even in traffic. Speed kills, they say – and your speedy lifestyle may be doing the same. Ask God what is simply your personality and what is FEAR DRIVEN.2. Learn time management. Three words: prioritize, delegate, and “Just Say No.”3. Learn to laugh. In Proverbs it tells us that “laughter doeth good like a

medicine.” Norma Cousins calls it “Internal Jogging.” Laughter puts us through a good physical workout. It is “good stress,” which releases painkillers in our brains that have similar effects to morphine...but you won’t need a doctor’s prescription!4. Learn to keep things in perspective. Try to look at things in light of eternity. Then, realize that some things will always be out of your control. Dr. Peter Hanson in the Joy of Stress (yeah, right), gives this prescription: “Learn to ignore what you can’t control and learn to control what you can.”5. Don’t worry. Before you get mad at me for this strong suggestion, just know that I have scripture to back me up. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension shall guard you hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”So, there you have it. Hope it helps. I am going to read this myself. Why? Because I was under a lot of stress to get this article finished.

God & Football: Faith and Fanaticism in the SEC

During the 2009 college football season, I attended a home game at each of the 12 SEC Schools. Over the course of 12 weeks, I went to upsets, blowouts, pep rallies, and tailgates, all the while spending time with rabid, Christian fans to learn how (or if) believers in the south balance the two pas-sions in their lives. I also bought a cool hog nose in Arkansas.

God & Football; Faith and Fanaticism in the SEC is a delightful book by Chad Gibbs. So that I won’t spoil the story in the book, I will let you read about Chad Gibbs as he chronicles part of his life growing up in the south with the greatest college football conference in the United States. As you read, you will be amazed and intrigued by the insight Gibbs provides you during this SEC football journey. You will laugh out loud and perhaps shed a tear when you read compelling journalism about the greatness and wonder of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Football will never be the same after reading this great book. You can purchase God & Football at CBO (Christian Book Outlet), Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or contact me (John Sherman), and I will contact my friend Chad Gibbs and provide you an autographed copy for $12.99.
