‘My reports have changed at school too – my teachers used to write that I didn’t have any confidence, that I

doubted myself a lot. That’s changed now. I know I wasn’t positive – I was a ‘glass half empty’ person. Not now - I’m

optimistic and positive.’ (UFA young person)

Experiencing UFA activity is often the first step of a young person’s journey with the UFA.

UFA offers a range of transformative programmes that are interactive, fast-paced, with high challenge, and high support to foster

interdependent learning. All these experiences focus on young people understanding more about themselves as learners whilst developing a range of useful skills and competencies for life in the 21st Century.

Having experienced UFA activity, many young people progress to supporting or leading further UFA activity for other young people.

‘It’s great learning how to learn for a change instead of being told what to learn.’

UFA Super Learning Days These off-timetable days enable groups of young people to discover how they learn best. Through experiencing a series of fun ‘learning to learn’ activities, young people can begin to think beyond what they have learned – to how they learn. Super Learning Days (SLDs) can also be themed, e.g. Maths, Creativity, Technology, Media or Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. SLDs create an experience so distinct from everyday school that lasting individual and school-wide impact is assured. The UFA can provide SLD ideas, training and resources for your team, we can deliver the entire experience for you or can train and work alongside your staff to deliver the day together.

‘UFA staff treat people with respect, they give you a higher level of respect – they expect that you can rise to the challenge – they treat you with understanding and really listen to what you have to say and act on it. There’s involvement – you always feel involved.’ UFA young person

UFA ClubsProvide young people with extended learning activities. Safe places that enrich and increase the range of learning opportunities available beyond the school day. Run by UFA trained staff and supported by Peer Tutors, UFA Clubs can be based around a theme like UFA’s ‘THINK! Kits’, ‘Learning to Learn’ activities, supporting homework and coursework, team building and a whole range of extension and enrichment activities.

UFA Team Challenge! This is a two-day programme designed to develop and progress the personal skills of young people to develop their potential to be leaders and team players. It focuses on team work and the different roles individuals can take in a team, leading a team and the coaching of self and others.

UFA Summer Challenges Usually a week-long experience, a UFA Summer Challenge provides a fantastic extended opportunity for young people to develop their skills, motivation and confidence. Challenges explore themes as varied as ‘The World in a Week’ or a murder mystery. The sense of ‘challenge’ and the relationships built with other learners and adults are all key to a successful experience. The challenges are an opportunity to extend and enrich learning, to build self-belief and improve attitude and behaviours whilst developing key skills.
